I'm not sure if I can reply anymore-I thought I was banned. And yeah I received that wacky "forbidden to post 403 message" I had been trying to edit my last-last post :) I couldn't edit and I'll see if I can post now.

BTW I don't know why I would have been banned but I suspect something..Anyway the edit was that things being said about OL in the negative are not entirely true-in my experience.

That doesn't mean it's great now but there definitely is potential there. I'm just tired of fighting and attempting to convince an entity that's basically unwilling (from all appearances) to consider the users side in this.

Oh and I am not now nor ever have been part of the FIC :p

i just got it trying to send an email to Lord S.. rather than try and work out what the offending words were I just emailed it from my google account..

WOW , I am impressed.

Just downloaded the new RC viewer, I am age verified, an island owner, Pay by Paypal, etc etc, so they have all my details.
I am amazed by how quickly LL have removed all sex related items from SL.
I went to search marked adult content and typed in sex.
There is NO SEX in SL now, the search box told me that it could find nothing.

Well done LL .

Dunno. M, Jack and Blondin Linden all accepted my notecard with ideas in it.

So far, My notecards have been accepted, but for all I know, that means that they'll go into the trash.

how do you know nobody is a lawyer? ;-)
Naw, we had a lawyer once - kept him in a fountain in the back yard. Ugly little creature with slimy skin, but my brother was of that age where boys collect things from the river and bring them home. Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, lawyers can't read; they just sit on rocks and catch flies. At night, they make noises.

I did read an article recently about some scientists in the 1950s doing experiments. No one will confirm or deny anything, but the story goes that the first attempts at chemical-genetic manipulation spawned not only a raft of sci-fi movies but created lawyers that could read and write. Personally, remembering the lawyer we kept in the fountain, I think it's all an invention of tabloid journalists.

Nothing wrong with participating in forum discussions, quite the contrary. Do you think that LL's lawyers, who presumably know more than we do about their thought processes, haven't educated them adequately about the legal ramifications of what they are doing? Do you really feel that bunch of residents, none of whom is a lawyer, is going to change LL's mind on the legality of this one Iota?

No, I don't think that LL's lawyers have thought this through. I think that they are convinced of the omnipotent nature of the TOS they have written. This is perfectly in line with the attitude of the rest of the RL business community, where lawyers are convinced of their own cleverness, and of the innate stupidity of the unwashed and judges in particular (JUdges are *never* smart- only scary and pigheaded).

I also think that LL's lawyers will advocate whatever will generate the most billable hours, which is why I'm not especially emphatic on reaching LL's legal team with this. I want to reach the folks that are *listening* to the legal team and let them know that there are perhaps a few more considerations than they have included in their business plan.

From: someone
[And how do you feel that's going so far?

Sucky, of course. :) But that's not excuse for not trying. Again, I'm not threatening a lawsuit, I warning of the possibility of one. Totally different animal.

And If there are any lindens reading this, I'd suggest getting a second opinion on your plan- your legal team is on crack or something! :)

Well, how about someone who actually KNOWS what the legalities of this stuff could be step up, identify themselves and talk about it from a more expert perspective?

Well, there's always the whole "risking a ban for including RL information: thing :)

Once LL has fully played its hand I am sure they will be found. At the moment LL hasn't instigated everything so we will have to wait and see once the final plan has been unrolled and things are a done deal. I wouldn't make any statements as a lawyer until the hand has been played fully.

No I am not a Lawyer but if I was thats how I would play it :)

Me too, which is why I'm trying to warn LL about it *now* ;)

The release candidate is not mandatory, so far as I can tell. I'm still using the released 1.22 viewer.

It's mandatory if you were using 1.23.0RC.

Blondin's office hours just started for anyone interested & able to get in:

1.23 RC11 and 1.23.11 final were really the same version this time around, just different channel strings to trigger upgrades, so that should be a good option for people who don't want to play with 1.23 RC yet.

Oh, well, change the channel name. Like, maybe, '--channel "I Am Adult Content"' or something.

Given the list of fixes in 1.23.1 over 1.23.0, my god, why do you want to run 1.23.0? I gotta be missing something here.

New RC issue
05-07-2009 15:59
I just updated to the new RC- I am a premium member and The "adult" box is completely greyed out on all search tabs

In "search all" and "any" category, I got *no* results for the word "sex", but 1380 for the word "violence" :)

Yep, the RC is *aaaaaalllllll* better.

OKay, have to check that you want *all* the flavors in your *preferences* before it will give you an option in search. Sorry about that :)

OK, for those expressing outrage at how they made the new 1.23 RC a mandatory upgrade if you were using the old 1.23 RC, please calm down - they do this EVERY time, and for good reason.

Nobody is forcing anyone to go to 1.23 yet - we're only in the very early stages of the RC process on that one. And this is typical - look at 1.22 - they needed 11 of the little suckers before it was ready for prime time...

Why do they do it? The RC process is to let us test the clients and find stuff that they hadn't (or some feel they use us to test because they can't be bothered.. ;) ) - so no point putting in JIRAs on a version that is no longer what they want to test.

I ALWAYS keep the "official" client and the RC installed - if I don't like the RC, I go back to the official version.

Yeah, I didn't bother downloading it - it sounded like SUCH a disaster! Not the first time, of course!

Hell if I know. LL is doing people a favor by not letting them use 1.23.0RC.

Of course, 1.23.1 doesn't seem like it's worth wasting time on either. :(
