From: Valerius Constantine Just a quick comment- I hope that they approve your exhibit idea, but I wouldn't hold my breath.. and Taking a look at "The future of virtual worlds" without including virtual sex is like taking a look at the future of the earth's environment without including Oxygen- IT's barely possible, but *awfully* damned unlikely. ^V^ Or maybe even the idea of the future of all life on planet earth if SEX was banned K PS just my 2 cents - sex actually is a fundamental part of RL and not just the human part.

Office Hours comments:
05-08-2009 09:54
Well, having read the office hours transcript, I have a few comments: (1) 40 people typing questions and 1 trying to answer just does not work very well. (2) The current PG vs Mature definitions in the community standards is claimed to be retained. That only leaves PUBLIC vs PRIVATE as the difference between Mature and Adult. (3) He stated you could use filtered words in your store, just not in the ads. Watch for these things to follow through in the definitions in the KB 6010 article next week

Now i have read this transcript i regret ever having bought on the mainland. It would be so much easier to have a private island cos then u could just badge it adult and problem solved K

K I imagine thet there are a lot of people thinking the exact same thing right now- Heck they had to price my Homestead sim out from under me to get me to move to mainland in the *first* place ^V^

From: Meade Paravane Nobody actually _knows_ yet but I don't think 50x will be unheard of. It will really, really depend on how well LL manages the situation so.. And, I said how much you "can" sell it for so no-fair abandoning it.. Because adult places are popular places.. The current mainland is about 5000 regions. Ursula will be under 500. Think: population density. edit: and yes, these issues were brought to LLs attention. The answers were, closely paraphrasing here: - land speculation is not illegal - ursula regions will run on class 5 servers And that was it. Issues resolved. This seems very important to underscore. I don't know a lot about servers either but I think a class 5 is the best that LL can afford to lease. Even if that's true the 10 to 1 ratio there is not going to be compensated for by servers with good response time. People will have to hope a lot of folks give up SL for Ursula to be marginally usable. That's a kind of grim hope.

From: Kirsty Shoreman Sorry im needing enlightenment here Is 5 supposed to be "yay, see that'll be ok" or is 5 like "sorry this region's only getting a 5 mate cos only 2 to 4 per cent need it ?? It just means that ursula regions will run on the same types of computers that all other mainland regions run on today. LL has been retiring old hardware - the old class 1, 2 and 3 servers - for a while. The whole grid is now on class 4 and class 5 servers. This really wouldn't be bad news if the population density - the average number of people per square meter - stayed the same as it is now. From: Phoenix Nohkan This seems very important to underscore. Grim indeed. I would have been happier if LL had said "oh.. we thought about that issue ages ago and are trying to figure out ways to not make ursula totally suck." Instead, we got a "too bad".

From: Couldbe Yue check out the current prices for bay city and then add a factor because it's going to be prized adult land.
mainland is down to around 3L/m but of course will drop further when the approx 250 sims (5% of the current mainland) go on the market from those who have moved. To be honest, I don't think land speculation will be that big an issue on Ursula. Here is my reasoning. 1. It will not be prized land ... it will be the worst of the adult land available, since the land swap people will all select the best available land. 2. For all the fatalistic talk on this board, my guess is that most people that really have to move will be given the swap, those on the border line will make a few word changes and be fine, and those with a need going forward will match that need to what the rule-of-the-day is ... today. I think the land barons will be very carful not to put too many eggs in one basket ... my guess is that there will be land available at a reasonable rate. 3. The Lindens have had a taste of the land business ... if there is a huge demand, they will just make more. 4. There will be massive amounts of PG and Mature land available, CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. While this land may never be as valuable as adult land, it will go up eventually ... AND, there is more than one way to make profit ... buy average and sell high is one ... buy low and sell average is another. The latter requires less financial output. DISCLAIMER: None of this supports the plan ... so put the freakin' knives away. This is just my opinion.

From: Couldbe Yue ok. well Jack said at the end he'd follow it up so I would have thought that he would have got back to you by now. He's had almost 24 hours.
I've taken the liberty of sending your explanation and the posters out to a couple of group mods so I'm hoping that they'll start distributing the card and the so called offending posters to their groups.
If anyone would like a copy of it to distribute, drop me a line and I'll send it over. If LL are condoning censorship of legitimate customer protest then obviously this needs to be highlighted. I want to make my land available to anyone here who wants to rezz some signs, I own most the sim 55000. Rezz a few around on the ground if you want...just click the ground to be sure I'm the owner as there are a few parcels that arent mine. P.S. send a quick IM so I know you have placed signs. Longfin sim

Most of those "on the border line" won't be people with ANY adult keywords, and many won't even have search up. Most of them don't even know, yet, that having sex poseballs on their unadvertised but publicly accessible nude beach is going to be grounds for an AR.

Honestly, I can't get these damn people to remove adult content that is actually illegal in the United States, from the PG sim I live on ... really, it's just hard for me to have a lot of worry about the G-Team running around making a mess of things based on a few AR's. My experience, which granted may not be as extensive as yours, is that it takes a consistant pattern of AR's against a specific type of behavior, before The Lab takes action.

From: Kirsty Shoreman Is there any clear advice for people who want to move but will not be allowed a free swap? Will it cost a lot of money for us? Will we even be allowed to move?
K It was mentioned that the plan is to auction off the remainder after the free swaps are done

And the Fallen shall lead you to the Promised Land
05-08-2009 11:15
From: Kirsty Shoreman My guess: a lot more than 5 per cent will want to move to Ursula. Certainly i want, and i don't run a business. From what i read there is no way my private and personal activities come anywhere close to triggering a free move. So therefore i will have to pay.
Are there loads of other people in my position? Or am i the weird one?
I hope lots of others will be clamoring to move otherwise i will start to feel i *am* the weird one.
K I have a suggestion: Team up with an adult business. They don't want to be stuck with a bunch of other busy places of the same kind all around them...too much lag and competition. Combine tier into one big request under their name, then divide up the parcel once you get there. You get to move, they get a decent neighbor.

I think that's incomplete. I would say "the thing the Lindens do worst, to the point of really not doing it at all, is enforcing the rules ... ANY rules ... consistently". People have been suspended by the G-Team for no sane reason. Look what happened to Carl Metropolitan. I know people who have suddenly vanished and come back with a new last name and have NO IDEA why. From: someone My experience, which granted may not be as extensive as yours, is that it takes a consistant pattern of AR's against a specific type of behavior, before The Lab takes action. Sometimes, and sometimes... it just happens. Consistent is not the word to use.

If I had a linden for every time someone's accused me of being Chicken Little over at Xstreet on this whole issue, I'd have enough to buy land.

The real problem with the G-Team is consistency - whilst they seem to be doing nothing about illegal adult content on your PG sim, they did ban Carl Metropolitan for having an art exhibit which exposed a nipple on PG land! However, I do believe that mature as a land rating will cease to be meaningful as either a) anyone wanting non-PG land will opt for adult land rather than mature so not to worry about what is/isn't permissable or so that they always have the option to open host adult content or to avoid vigilante groups which AR anytthing non-PG as adult. or b) after an initial splurge, the G-teams enforcement of mature versus adult is so sporadic and inconsistent that many run openly adult content on mature land without any problem (or even realising that their material is not really supposed to be on mature land). My experience, which granted may not be as extensive as yours, is that it takes a consistant pattern of AR's against a specific type of behavior, before The Lab takes action. it really does depend on what Ll considers to be its focus. For example you can quite easily AR a microparcel adfarm, but if it's just an extortionately priced piece of land then they'll ignore it. I got ARd for having some land for sale that had 2 spinning for sale signs on it.. The shame, I have a criminal record now.. Yet my resource sucking neighbour who crippled my sim for months with his 400 temp rez fish and 6000 tea lights and doors etc all on sensor or sensor activated temp rez was never touched - despite me ARing god only knows how many times because that's what concierge told me to do every time I contacted them for help. So in this case it is quite likely that they will want to be seen to be pursuing their clean up, so the chance of being pinged is quite high.

Here is my reasoning. <snip> DISCLAIMER: None of this supports the plan ... so put the freakin' knives away. This is just my opinion. You're in for one hell of an education, then. In BOTH Bay City AND Nautilus, land speculation drove the prices to insane levels. VERY little land was to be had for anything remotely approaching "reasonable". Jack has already said that they are only going to initially release 50-70 sims' worth of Ursula, and then "will see" if / when to release more. Economics 101 says that constricting supply drives prices up. From: Viciously Llewellyn Like my opinion, this is just your opinion.

My experience, which granted may not be as extensive as yours, is that it takes a consistant pattern of AR's against a specific type of behavior, before The Lab takes action. I only wish that were true. In many cases, I WISH they would have "done nothing at all", because at least nothing would have been better than what they did do. You CAN get stuff done with just one AR, both good AND bad. However, there are times when you can't get stuff done with a dozen ARs, for things which are BLATANTLY and OBVIOUSLY against the rules. Consistency is NOT LL's long suit. Again, you're in for one hell of an education. It is too bad it will come from the spilled creative blood of other residents.

Login totals are dropping...to the tune of around 20k less. Some of it is due to vacations and what have you.....but without a doubt many are leaving. One of my suggestions is to stop spending or buying as much as you can...I know it will hurt some of us involved with this scam...but if LL sees their income dropping they are going to have a looksee.....I havent bought anything or even spent one L for 3 to 4 weeks...I did donate to this cause to try to stop the train....lets see if we can hurt them where their brains are...in their wallets, and im still up for the DONT LOG IN DAY!

Wasn't Carl Metropolitan suspended for one or two days, and aren't there other factors left unsaid in that story?
The G-Team's enforcement is random ... I get that. It was random before anyone knew anything about an adult continent. If there was no such thing as an adult continent, it would still be random. I'm not sure why that is germane to this discussion.
The other point that can be argued, is that if the Lindens somehow now applied action to AR's based on adult content, this would be considerably different from now, when action against adult content is really not even applied in the case of PG land. This would signal a radical change, which makes all prior bad acts no longer applicable.

From: Phoenix Nohkan This seems very important to underscore. Class 5 servers started appearing on the grid back in 2006. By the middle of last year, almost all of the other classes of servers had been sunset/obsoleted and removed from the grid. For someone to say "lag? but they will be on class 5 servers" is completely disingenuous, since EVERYTHING is on class 5 servers already. No, the point in saying that is to dodge the crux of the question. Class 5 servers have nothing to do with additional client lag from high-density complex content. Class 5 servers have nothing to do with maxing the 40-avatar limit in regions. Class 5 servers have nothing to do with additional script loads from high-density complex content. The question was about lag and other technical and social problems related to density. ONE semi-popular club or venue in a region is pretty much the limit right now. Packing 2-5 of them in the same sim WILL BE the kiss of death for all of them.

I think you make good points, but make them with a high degree of melodrama. That will only serve to get agreement from those that already agree with you. To reach those on the fence, or trying to be open-minded, one needs to approach things in a neutral way, and limit discussion to that which can be proven, as opposed to speculation.
