From: Ceera Murakami How interesting. He cut and pasted the EXACT SAME words to me when I IM'ed him. Not one letter more or less. The lazy SOB isn't even bothering to reply to IM's individually! So maybe a lot more than 10. Yes I did find it sad that his response was a cut and paste and was not really answering what I had said to him... [13:09] Jamie David: I didn't think to IM you as I assumed that Blodin Linden was reporting back to the management how upset us residents are. I also assume that Linden Management was ignoring us. 1 It is not allowed to use CreditCards for Age verification. 2 the censorship is so worong. 3 Comments given by us the residents are laughed off or belittled. [13:10] Jamie David: This has all been done backward and with little regard to any standards that would/ will work [13:10] Jamie David: there are my 2 cents worth. So maybe we should IM all lindens one at a time. I got a response which we don't get from here

I seem to remember SL absolutely promised to put messages and a blog link back on the login screen early this year, or at the very latest when the blog changes came through. still waiting. The new pg that would ban most childrens cartoons. heck slaying dragons and bugs bunny are now for ursula only if we read the new guidelines literaly. heeeeeeeeelp. This was going to be a change effecting behaviours everyone would think was extreme, but it isnt being worded that way. Instead of 4% being effected, 100% are effected. please reword the guidelines in a sane way. Take into account the literal minded please I asked in a support chat about CURRENT guidelines and they could not help. I hope help for the new guidelines will be available soon as the change is already happening with viewers, and we will need help.

So My Voice Can Be Heard
04-30-2009 14:18
From: Talarus Luan From Jack Linden's Office Hour today:
There you have it, folks!
If you haven't IMed Jack Linden about it, then you don't count as "very upset about this".
Never mind if you didn't even know who Jack Linden is, or knew that he was even remotely interested in hearing about how upset you are.
So, here's everyone's chance. Presuming that the only way they sit up and take notice is direct, personal communication, go ahead and send Jack (and Blondin, Cyn, M, and any other Linden who has posted in these threads) an IM today expressing your heartfelt opinion on the subject. Thank you. I have also IM'd Jack, Cyn, M, Blondin, and Blue. I wanted to post here as proof of my one voice. Below is the message I sent. I am taking this opportunity to personally contact you about the up-coming changes to adult content. I am against these changes. I *AM* an adult and wish to be treated as an adult. I am very capable of controlling my OWN experience within SL. If something offends me, I know where the TP button is, I know where the mute button is, I know how to AR, and if all that fails... I know how to click the "X" at the top of my screen. I do not need to be saved from myself, I am an adult and capable of making adult choices about what I see and experience within SL. =( I hope you will visit your own forums and actively read and LISTEN to what your Customers are trying to tell you. What you are NOT hearing is the many voices of your Customers who know nothing about these changes. Please show us that you are still a Professional Business that realizes you are dealing with ADULTS and not children and announce these changes to every one of us via email and on the LOG-IN PAGE. PLEASE STOP this ridiculous filtering of adult content from adults. Thank you for taking the time to read this. ~Ryanna Enfield (SL Resident since 2005)

From: Elanthius Flagstaff Yeah Jack's a good guy. I could be wrong but I don't think he's very much involved in this change. Of course he has to defend the company line to some degree and I don't fault him for that. I disagree that Jack is not involved in this change. Every Linden is involved in these changes whether they wanted to be or not. They work for the Company and policy is policy no matter what position you hold or whether you feel it is right or wrong. I just hope there is one Linden out there who will see this in a different light and bring OUR, the resident's concerns forward.

From: Kalderi Tomsen "Forced move is like rape"?!?!?!?!?!
Excuse me??????
Having to pick up your virtual; builds and relocate them to another continent in a virtual world is akin to being raped? Does this person have ANY IDEA what it feels like to be actually RAPED?
Let us hope that they do not.

For what it's worth, I also decided to IM Jack Linden, and I do hope I'll get an answer. Notecard text added below Aen From: someone Dear Jack, In your office hour you stated that you haven't got many complaints against the new Adult-policy LL is undertaking. With Blondin being the liaison in the forums, this doesn't surprise me at all. But! Blondin is well aware of the facts that a) there are many people against the proposed changes AND b) there have been offered workable alternatives. You can find them all in: /352/11/314444/1.html all the way up to post 7000+. I would expect internal communication inside LL to be better though, and I certainly didn't expect I would have to inform every Linden of the fact that many people disagree with the proposed changes. As many have stated before, also in the forum thread I mentioned before, opposition exists mainly against the way you are pursuing your goals. The over all aims are - if not my preferred course of action - understandable. But the course of action taken at this moment is - and I am sorry to say that - an epic fail. The proposed policy is: - unfinished - unclear - hardly known (and no, the forums and blog DON'T count as a way of informing all residents... the splash screen does, or a grid wide blue drop box) - biased (because it depends too much on interpretation) - inconsistent (because it's biased) - unfair (because land owner will be moved at LL's discretion of what is adult and what not AND the possibilities of mature land are altered drastically) I am pretty sure that you could get a working policy which will be accepted by virtually the whole community if you start working with the community from scratch, and not drop something in some Brown Bag meetings (of which the transcripts appear to be inaccurate). As I have said before, many viable alternatives have been mentioned and they will work. But what we get to work with now is just random vagueness... Ofcourse, a great many people haven't said anything about the proposed changes. That doesn't mean they agree though. Nor does it mean they disagree. It simply means they DON'T know. What I wish for at this moment is that you, and your superiors, start taking into account that there have been massive failures in this process regarding the design of cooperation in the process, the way the change is 'marketed' and the way protests are being ignored systematically. From: Kalderi Tomsen However to equate this with child labor camps I find kind of insulting. Comparing it to fascism and all the other Godwined things I find tasteless and trivialising of the historical comparisons.
.
Fascism is alive and well in the United States, most other countries are seeped in radical socialism. Why should SL be any different?

No more XSL forums for me
04-30-2009 15:01
I can't take the XSL forums. Someone actually posted.."This is where the cool KIDS are." All I can say to that is... Some people want to be treated like children I guess.

I missed that post. But I post there because a lot more people read that than this. I think it's helping raise awareness even when people talk to me like I'm stupid.

An informal Survey
04-30-2009 15:10
I have about 1100 people in my store's group, and They are a big part of why I am in SL. So naturally I wanted to get their views. I offered them a survey to take on a voluntary basis, and with a statistically significant number now having replied, I figure I would share the results. Keep in mind these are all people with an active interest in my store and the types of things I sell, not a cross section of SL as a whole.
1. Have you Age Verified with Linden Lab using a form of identification from their website's account page? Yes: 68.0% No: 32.0%
2. If you chose No for Question 1, do you plan in the future to verify your age? Yes: 52.5% No: 47.5%
3. Have you ever purchased linden dollars on the Lindex, or from XStreet's dollar exchange? Yes: 85.0% No: 15.0%
4. What type of payment medium was used for this purchase? CC: 52.0% Bank Draft: 4.0% PayPal: 34.0% Other: 10.0%
5. If You chose "Other" for question 4, please state form of payment used. (Optional answer and not germane to this discussion)
6. Please specify the region in which you reside. North America: 53.0% Europe: 44.0% Australia: 3.0%
7. Rate the importance of these following forms of advertising on a scale of 1 to 5. (The table is too complex to format here. in simplest form, Classifieds ranked far below Search and Word of Mouth)
8. Do you think LL's changes to Adult content are in the long run beneficial or not? Yes: 20.0% No: 53.0% Unsure: 27.0%
So make of it what you will.

Jack appears to be buried

My notecard got through, but soon after I started getting reports he had set busy, and was declining cards. I guess the notice on the "I am adult content" group (1800+ members) was when the trickle turned into a rushing tide.

Listen Up, Lindens
04-30-2009 15:14
There is a rumor going around that you are unaware of the unpopularity of the upcoming "Adult Restrictions."
I find that quite odd, because there are 300 people on my friends list, and every one with whom I've spoken thinks the idea is not merely inconvenient, it is a waste of time, money, and effort. Not to mention the negative impact the proposed changes will make on their business traffic, nor the cost of relocating itself. (Which, by the way, does LL intend to repay me for my land purchase cost? How about the money and effort of relocating every one of my buildings, displays, vendors and servers?)
Here's another point I don't think anyone at LL has realized. If you move all "Adult Content" to a new continent, that continent will BE SL. There will be Ursula, and a handful of PG sims off to the side where all the kiddies stay. Oops, I mean all the kiddies who have not been able to figure out Daddy's credit card, address and/or SSN will get them age verified. (And how long do you think that will last? I knew my parents' information when I was 14 years old. How about you?)
So yeah. There are a whole lot of us. There are a whole of very ANGRY, credit-card-wielding adults. We are angry enough to take our business to other grids. I know I already have made the jump, and the more ridiculous SL gets, the less business I will be doing there.
Did I mention the potential lawsuit? You think angry parents are bad, wait until you start ripping people out of their mainland homes. There are folks who have invested thousands of dollars in SL, thinking that it might be a stable platform to conduct their business... or their social lives. Do you really think they're just going to toss up their hands and say "oh well, we're outlawed now, let's move along like good Jews to the cattle-train."
Yeah, I don't think so either.
Thanks.

If it worked for the homestead OpenSpaces... It might work for us...
04-30-2009 15:30
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2727If voting worked for OpenSpaces turning in to Homesteads it might work for all of us. I guess the most we can do is get the word out there to vote against it. *sighs* I'm passing this along hoping that we're not too late. But shouldn't they just make the new continents in to G-rated fun zones that no one who isn't "age verified" can't get out of? That would make more sense then uprooting adult merchants and shipping them off in to concentration camps.
