From: Argent Stonecutter You mean, like, in the same parcel? You can't list the store and not the skybox, they're in the same parcel! /me hits Argent on the nose with a rolled up newspaper. You can have the store at ground level and the private place 4000m above it. Or you could have the store and the private place all in the same building.

From: Milla Janick 86% Freebie 4.4% Verified 7.1% PIU 2.5% Lifetime Wow, that's an eye-opener! Even if you suppose a lot of the Freebies are alts and bots, that's still a LOT of free accounts...

From: Valerius Constantine Or be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Which *cannot* happen in SL. Sl is treating *cartoon* sex and violence with greater seriousness than RL treats actual depictions of sex and violence (and in some cases, the actual sex and violence itself)
-V- Which is relatively easily checked in RL, but how, pray tell, would you ensure that someone was logging in to SL with a parent or guardian? And that the parent or guardian stayed with them the entire time online? There is enough difficulty getting a passable age verification system in place. And that provision may apply to R ratings, but does not apply to NC-17, or X rated movies. There are still levels of restriction that keep children out, which includes Fritz the Cat and other animated features which are X rated yet very cartoony. (Edited 'stayed with them the entire movie' to 'stayed with them the entire time online'. A movie theatre is small enough that it is relatively easy to notice the parent leaving early. Making sure that the kid was logged out if too far away from the parent would be another matter)

i have an office labeled as adult in search becuase i have public toys available but it is mainly a personal space and i get no traffic to speak of as well as the adult qualitys are not in search. as best as i can tell this buts me in a gray zone seeing how it's not 'extreme' and i would like to know that being in the gray zone will i be allowed to move in the same manner as those who are forced. or should i put some 'extreme' content just to be sure? I believe a lot of people have the same question considering the working definitions are a buit lackiing so some sort of awnser will be appreciated.

Blondin and Jack really need to get their stories straight. Blondin's response regarding the contradictions sounded a lot like bafflegab to me.
Also, has it been made clear what Blondin's role in all of this really is? Is he instrumental in this or just a spokesperson? If the latter, could vital information be being lost in translation?

He is the jailer, he promised to come all 2 or 3 days in here, with 8 portions mildewed bread and brackish water to feed thousands of hostages wich have thousands of questions, with nothing than orders about how we have to behave. This is his role. He acts by order of the hostage-takers and the slavedrivers. You know: war on eros and a crusade against freedom, is a rough biz. They are on their mission. We are the prisoners. We have no right to see an attorney, nor to see the sun again.

From: Mystique Chambers I have a curious question...
How many sims are there in the mainland grid anyway? I am trying to get a focus on the reality of space. Just flying around my neighbored sims there are large number of clubs. I know Ursula is around 250 sims.. Mainland and PG are....how many? Around 5,000 mainland sims. About 25,000 total sims on the grid. (Numbers approximate and from memory and may be out of date).

From: Valerius Constantine You know why there's so "few" of us "losers"? Because LL won't *tell* the rest of the grid on the login screen, or make any announcements of this is any language besides *english*. Put up a login screen announcement, and start putting the word out to non-english speakers, and we'll see how "few" of us there are -V- The word is getting out. As usual, it's the Residents, not LL, doing the job. Join the group *I* Am Adult Content, and invite everyone you meet to do the same. Get the free T shirt on XStreetSL or from the group notices. It's tintable, so you can wear it with EVERYTHING. Anyone who's multilingual, please consider writing notecards, with links to the LL blog posts and to these threads. If you run a blog in another language, consider posting news updates. Anyone who thinks, like Nany, that the opposition to this policy consists of "a few losers" is completely blind...thinking that is like LL thinking "2 to 4 per cent".

Anyone can leave SL anytime they want to (which does not mean that it is good business practice on behalf of LL to discourage so many from staying). Freedom is a tricky concept. How can your freedom within SL be automaticly more important to you than LL's freedom to develop SL as they choose is to them? Do your property rights as a consumer outweigh those of the actual owner of the property?

From: Snickers Snook I lost confidence in the SL economic model last year even before the global economy tanked. Oh, and could you please explain what that economic model is?? Cuz I seriously don't think LL have ever known. Isn't THAT the truth? I think Phil and LL must have hit on the SL model by sheer chance, and they have never realized what they stumbled into. Now they are trying to tinker with it...much like Congress is tinkering with the RL economy. Both will cause unimagined harm, just like anyone who tinkers with a complex machine they don't understand. I told LL a year ago that they should give a grant to a university to develop a model of the SL economy, so that the consequences of tinkering could be investigated in advance. Did they listen? Hah! So, as usual, we lab rats have to put up with whatever torments the so-called bright boys in the lab choose to inflict on us.

Don't forget that a lot of those are either the tried it and didn't like it brigade or are dormant alts created to grab a name. I can't remember the true figures off hand but SL has a churn rate of something like 90+% most companies start to ask serious questions when they have a churn rate of around 15% lol I have said for years that's there's only actually 20 of us hanging out here and the rest are alts. I can see why they want to make current payment details a method to verify those who exist. At a 4% take up over the last 2 years you can see there's resistance to the idea.

Zero confidence
04-03-2009 07:15
What I'm reading is leaving me with a sense of foreboding, of an end to my existence in SL and I'm sure there are alot more than 4%
I have no confidence in the third party company used by Linden labs and have continued to use my credit card as my means of age verification.
Whatever spin Linden labs use, the company they employ has a reputation of making money out of using the information it receives, beyond the mandate its given by the people who employ them.
As a non US national, living outside the country, should my name be used for criminal purposes against me or a third party, my chances of receiving justice are next to none.
Fact
I.D theft cost legitimate companies and people, Billions of dollars each year.
of the three methods available
giving out my National insurance number is illegal.
I don't own a passport.
While I drive and hold a full licence I'm reticent about giving details as its one of the most common methods of ID theft in my country.
The reason I find using my credit details acceptable is because the company is insured against any fraudulent actions and will take independent action to ensure my finacial security.
Now its declared that Credit cards are only going to be a layer of security, its somewhat vague
Again a total lack of specific information, what constitutes a layer, a layer could be a layer of icing sugar for all the information given
either they are going to be an acceptable method or they are not
I can see it being aceptable until something happens to question my integrity as an adult, and then all of asudden its no longer an aceptable method.
The fact that Linden labs chose to use a third party company for this age verification is a clear indication that they have no intention of accepting any liability it something should go wrong and my credentials getting into the wrong hands.
Which is something any non North American citizen should seriously take into consideration before they Age verify.
Is it worth the risk just to have a pixel person acting out what they can say in a chat group for free.

From: Sindy Tsure ...Maybe a letter writing campaign to Visa or Paypal, letting them know that LL is planning to consider people with payment info 'verified adults,' something that both companies explicitly do not allow.. Sindy, that is BRILLIANT! I'll take pen in hand tonight. Everyone else should too! Emphasize the fact that LL is exposing THEM to liability...they could be named in a suit accusing LL, and their payment companies, of letting underage persons slip onto the grid as "verified" adults.

From: Milla Janick Could you go through your transaction records, and then look up the information in the avatar's profile?
I only have PIOF for one avatar, currently there's no need for it on alts, but I spend through them too. Probably more. It won't be a problem for me to put PIOF for them, though, if I have to. I could, but my life is too short for that and so I'm hoping that a lot of that 40% are going to bite the bullet and either verify or use their real account for purchases (even if they only go to xsl to do it rather than set foot on the adult continent inworld) The thing that really irritates me about this is the complete lack of figures. LL should be able to pull a lot of reports out pretty easily so we can do some financial forecasting but of course they're trying to do this on the cheap and not put too many of their resources into it.

It's a matter of, as you say, "good business practice". What most of us have been trying to pound into LL's consciousness is that this policy is very, very, very bad for their bottom line. Ours too, of course. But if we are hurtin', the company who gets our money is going to be hurtin' too.

Paypal have a very explicit exclusion of any company that deals in adult content. Which is partly why XSL has two sites and you cannot use paypal to buy from the uncensored. Strictly speaking paypal should pull the pin on the agreement it has with LL as LL are facilitating the violation of this agreement. So, feel free to write to paypal and remind them of this. Just make sure that if you have paypal on your account that you have a different payment method available to you if you do.

I can't remember the true figures off hand but SL has a churn rate of something like 90+% Even if 90% of those NPIOF users are gone forever, the remaining 10% make up 38% of the total. That's assuming 100% retention of the users who have at least provided payment information.

Do your property rights as a consumer outweigh those of the actual owner of the property? Well stated I am affected by these changes and am looking forward to seeing how this all pans out in the end, i disagree with the forced move but accept that under the TOS, which i agreed to when i started, the rules can be changed at anytime by LL and if i do not like it i can stop paying them anymore money and change the rules of engagement here to suit mine. My own feelings is that LL will take a hit in loss of revenue and or customers, but unless this is a fatal blow, which i very much doubt, as LL isn't going to damage its platform beyond repair i hope , things will recover as time passes, just like it always does after these bombshells. However i do wish they would be more forth coming with information as to what is happening, and maybe consolidate the answers as has been suggested to one locked thread which can be followed from this one. But as they seem to be saying June/July/August time thats a while down the line and plenty of time to forward plan based on what we know now. We had less than 3 months notice when my company, Time Warner, here in Holland told us it was shutting its operations down and moving them to South Africa to sort new jobs and incomes out and that is RL i am sure most here will survive this hurdle

how the hell are we all going to fit on 250 sims?
Does lindens have a plan to make this at least the size of the mainland? OK, how about 1/2 the size of the mainland? I doubt ursula is going to be big enough just for the land swap let alone for us trying to figure out how we won't be smothered and crimped all together like a can of squirmy worms.
So what if I was one of the first waves to do the swap and I pick this nice cozy corner lot with a nice beach, will it only last a week before I suddenly lose my neighbored ocean front to new mass of land and suddenly in the center of an adult continent?
When this first leaked out and got on the board it was "extreme" sexual content. But as timed lollied on more and more became that even the less extreme sexual content was going to be forced into the black zone of "Adult".
I would still like to know and waiting for an answer so I can make all my options clear...IF I am being forced to move to an "Adult" area and there is a land swap will it be possible to buy the entire sims of an Adult mainland..then and there. With a deal of course. Sorry folks, but I really see all this turning into a nightmare.
Los Vegas strip of Adult clubs just lined up all over the place. But tossed into the middle of all those Mafia roleplay, Vampires, and all the other adult warfare along with it. Chaos, pure and simple.
250 sims?? from 5000 or more ..that is madness in the making!!

Just move all the PG sims together
04-03-2009 07:33
From: Ciaran Laval If they really want to help people have a predictable experience and provide more choice then yes, it is a no brainer that they would create two new continents. They dont even have to do that...just swap around the PG and Mature sims that exist now so that all the PGs are together on one continent. And then leave the rest of us alone.

2 seperate threads and I am still waiting !!!!!
04-03-2009 07:35
From: Blondin Linden I made it! I made it on time! I was gone for a while and I apologize. I live 4 hours away from an office and I commute 2 days / 1 night a week. Thursdays, I travel back home so I'm AFK for a chunk of the evening.
Still got that glass of wine for me or did you kill the bottle? Glad you made it back and all, but I have been asking questions across two threads now that still to this day have not been answered, I am beyond frusterated with combing the threads every day for my answers from you, that still have not been answered, I refuse to post them all again, Instead you can view all my post on this topic and the one before and provide me with MY answers so I can have some piece of mind or make a decision as to if I want to even remain with LL/SL. It is seeming more and more than we are unimportant to your company, I have seen better customer service in regards to answering a customers questions from places that outsource to places who have no idea of what they are talking about. AND THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING TRUST ME.... I feel as though my questions are important and so is my business, I need ANSWERS, not cutesy stuff, my patience and tolerance on being repeatedly ignored have about warn thin.... Summer Golding................ Stop dancing around the questions with ones you think are important, all questions are important !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do your property rights as a consumer outweigh those of the actual owner of the property? I postet something about this along the days/week(s) - too tired to repeat it. Not all of it would answer your questions perfect. For me were other points of view in foreground. Today I did only a spicy metaphore. No need to go deeper into it, from my view. Meant for me, or ppl who want to stay, to describe the momentary situation pictorially. Their biz practice is not worth to discuss it. It is all other than fair salesmanship. I liked what the tech platform offered. I payed for it. This, the main offer - your world. your imagination - is now under pressure and will be lost, shrinked, deconstructed, whatever. But: yes, they have definitly their right to drive their biz and our biz, art, expressions, self-experiments, etc. to death. Plus, our creativity and our feeling comfy and being self-responsible as adults - not guided in any meaning. And sure we can quit every moment. But if we do not, and as long we do not, is the "hostage-taker" metaphore sharp. It is interesting to see, that they are not ashamed to try, to squeeze the rest of dignity out of their customers, while kicking them around like soccerballs, in hope the drug SL is effective enough to make them stay, come what will.

He may have a little influence over what is finally decided, but he's not the person with the final responsibility for what is and isn't going. I don't know who is the organ grinder (so to speak) to Blondin's monkey. I wish I did. That's the office hours we need to be at.
