From: Darien Caldwell I used to own and run a 15 sim estate. I am well aware of the work, which is to say It took me one whole day to move a 11,000 prim sim build from one sim to another. I'm afraid I'm not going to give people much sympathy for the 'lost time and money' part. Picking up your parcel and re-rezzing it on a new one isn't reall that hard. Iv'e personally moved my own sim about 4 times in my SL career. I am currently not planning on moving... but... I have content on my parcel that belongs to around 10 different people, some of whom don't log on even weekly. If I were moving, there is no way I could get everyone lined up to do the move in a nine day window.

From: Blondin Linden Hey All,
I deleted the SL Wiki page about the Adult Key Words. I just wanted to give you a heads up. The list was incorrect anyway so we decided to take it down. Maybe just publish the correct one instead?

From: Qie Niangao Not sure it's the linecount that's most relevant here. Just finding and specifying all the changes entailed by this must have been a pretty substantial task. See [img]http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Public_Nightly/1.23?#UI_Changes_in_Support_of_Adult_Content:[img]for a list of the (to me) surprisingly wide-ranging changes that had to be made in the viewer. Most of those changes involve editing the UI XML files, or adding an element to an indexed value. I stand by my claim that all the changes in the client and server together should be well under a thousand lines.

From: Ciaran Laval Oh FFS! This is extremely bloody silly, so it's really not at all feasible to sell mature items on mature land then. That's correct, UNLESS those items are a minor part of what you're selling... for example, if you sell full avatars that are anatomically correct, but don't consider those add-ons as being a core part of the product, you will be able to sell those avatars on mature land... you just won't be able to advertise the details of the anatomical correctness.

Well let me correct you on *just* a few things here. Sure, pick up YOUR sim, YOUR objects, and RE-REZZ them. I own a full mainland sim. There are objects belonging to more the 20 people on my sim, some of which aren't in SL anymore. NOTHING on my sim came in a rez box. everything is built, prim by prim. no, i can not simply pick up and move my sim in one day. Even if i had mod rights on these items, which i do, i CAN'T pick them up... they are NO TRANSFER. So... That being said.... This means... to replicate what i have now, i have to possibly replace things that are no transfer, and the owners aren't around anymore. This is money out of my pocket. I run an escort agency. My job is *hands on* pun intended. I can't be two places at once, even with alts. So, there's potential money lost while i move/relocate/set up. Now, the thorny part. Three Years i have been at my current location. 3 years. Lots of businesses in SL do not make it past 3 months, much less 6 months or even a year. Now, i have to get all my LM's redirected, new picks, new classifieds, get employees set up, and continue to work. So yes, i am losing money, time, frankly, i am annoyed. I chose mainland, because 1, the tier was cheaper, and 2. i have had really good luck when i have had issues having Linden come fix what i couldn't. I appreciate the transcripts, i will read them in depth later. I still have yet to see any where in this forum where LL is actually willing to show customer's any modicum of appreciation, or respect. I still don't think thats asking to much. We requested.... 30 days to move anything over 2048 sqm parcel. 1 months free land tier. A clear set of rules, and regulations, and a definite time line for when all this will happen. Just these small things would make a HUGE difference between bridging the gap between pissed off customers, and customers willing to help make this as painless as possible. It ain't rocket science... ~Brie

I'm not sure what your point is with the rest, but People will still be just as nice as before. Search and Location doesn't affect niceness, or at least it shouldn't. Bully for you Darien - wow! - mark them all and take them back into your inventory very possibly from one flat based sim to another - how about those less skilled at swinging their thing around? People with properties built and sculpted around mainland mountainside and squeezed into odd shaped parcels, then transferred to a new region where it has been emphatically explained that the terrains will not be matched. A complete rebuild from top to bottom I'm afraid - naaaah no sympathy ! That's a shame. But then the silly twats just got what they deserved for buying into mainland mountain side I suppose. Not everyone has the the super skills you have to swing 11,000 prims around on a whim. Some people affected have only recently started to learn the craft and certainly didn't expect LL to hammer them with this kind of discouraging upheaval out of the blue - but then apart from being skilled and lucky enough to afford and juggle with 15 sims at the same time you knew it was all going to happen anyway and if you knew everyone else should have so yes on that premise I agree with you - No sympathy - banish the whiners, they don't know a good thing thing when they see it - leave it all to the elite squad! - they know best - just like Linden Labs do.

PLEASE CHANGE THIS: From: Brownbag Linden And just to be clear, when we say photo realistic, we don't mean avatars look more realistic than other avatars. We literally mean photos. If you don't mean "photorealistic", if you mean "photographs", don't use the term "photorealistic", use the term "photograph", because "photorealistic" is a technical term in a number of disciplines and so far as I am familiar with any of them it does not mean what you're using it to mean. Blondin: this is important.

lol I'm laughing at the introduction of the "other" category. It means they can still take the ad money rather than cancelling them. greedy sods what it does appear to mean is that you will no longer be able to search for an adult business using places. it will be all or nothing (quite literally lol)

@ Darien,
I understand that you have your own reasons, like myself, for liking parts of this plan. And though from the wording of your posts it seems that I am much more unhappy with the implementation I do hope that instead of staying silent you might lend your voice to those of us asking for better clarification.
Earlier in this same thread you asked repeatedly whether your store would be mature or adult, like many other users here have. And when you were finally answered it was generally considered mature with the keyword thing being the sticking point.
Now looking at this list of keywords that other users have found, and looking at your ad as it comes up in search in world, the answer would appear to have changed from mature to adult.
This back and forth, and changing lines has annoyed a great many of us. And you yourself asked and were told mature and by the keywords now appear to fall under adult. This general back and forth confusion on what is adult one minute and then mature the next will not help in any manner to actually accomplish the goal.
So instead of simply turning silent I ask that you turn your voice instead to asking for consistency in this matter.
and if you still wish to remain silent that is your right.
thanks

Changing My Own Television Channels
04-28-2009 17:14
PHILIP ROSEDALE: "look at how we can make the overall experience appropriately safe and controlled for everybody. So that's the general direction that we're taking there."
I am responsible for my own safety thank-you. Furthermore, I do not need nor want a controlled experience. Nor do I care for the overused word "appropriate" or derivatives thereof.
I am an atheist. I do not call the cable company and demand that a rep come right over to turn off the preachers on my television. I change the channel myself.
You don't like something going on in a parcel? Then get out. Change your own television channel. If you linger there, well that's just mental masturbation.
And yes, forcing the PG places to move to a PG continent would be far better than this "we Lindens are instituting this move to Porno Land" mentality. Let them who wish to be controlled (or have a controlled environment) opt in for the move.
So the merging of the two grids is a bloody rumor. Fine. I for one hope it never comes to pass. I'm sick of hearing WE MUST PROTECT THE CHILDREN. Parents, monitor the activities of your own rug rats. I don't have children for many reasons. It is not my job to watch your kids. But I digress.
As for the child avie sex thing/porn ring/German reporters/ propositioning no0bs/whatever it really was...that launched all this silliness in the first place: I don't care. The courts are taking care of that case. Pedoheads should not be allowed on the internet, period. Civil rights for all civils.
Those adults who are not fantasizing about baby raping (the vast majority of us) basically-- well, okay. I cannot speak for anyone else. I would like to see a reasonable response to all of this, such as checking the "Yup I've of age and I am willing to live with the idea that not everyone does or believes the same way I do so let me in" box.
By actively policing content, Lindens, you very well maybe subjecting yourselves to more lawsuits and legal responsibilities. That is, unless you --like Live Journal-- also plan to sell out to a Russian company or someplace else where an oppressive government imprisons their citizens for attempting to have some form of creative expression.
I have lived through the Live Journal messes of the last several years (and the ultimate selling of Live Journal to the Russians for a heap of money). And now this.
Land prices: falling. Blood pressure: rising.
Hey, I'm an adult. I'm going to make the healthy choice and go out for some vigorous exercise. Then maybe later on I will be in a calm enough state to enjoy some simulated sex act between pixels.
The intrawebs are for pr0n.

3 Levels Of Resident Ratings??????
04-28-2009 17:26
From: someone + If you are a resident rated Mature, the [X] Adult content will be greyed-out/disabled. + If you are a resident rated PG, the Mature content and Adult content checkboxes will not appear and the tab will simply indicate that PG Content is being displayed. + If you are a resident cleared for Adult content but have selected a lower rating in Preferences, then any checkboxes above that level will be greyed-out/disabled.
Woah, wait as second!! What's the difference between a RESIDENT being RATED Mature vs PG. I get the account verify for Adult but this implies a new level of verification to tell if you can access Mature content other than a checkbox. If the checkboxes are disabled, how the hell does LL know someone is PG or Mature?? Am I missing something?

"I'm afraid I'm not going to give people much sympathy..." Non Lindens that's who you aren't going to give much sympathy to. Your previous post revealed that since it appears you reserve all sympathy for the Lindens. I'm not surprised you couldn't discern what I was saying in the rest of my post which is that non lindens are people too even those who work at jobs some find disdainful. People will not be as nice as before because while some may have the ability to move mountains others are human. Some may decide to be nice in a VR like OL that encourages respect rather than blatant intolerance.

If the checkboxes are disabled, how the hell does LL know someone is PG or Mature?? Am I missing something? It's something you get to set yourself. Verified users will get to set their own accounts to any of PG, mature or adult, unverified can use the first two. And people will get to switch back and forth as they go, if they change their minds. This is actually a pretty cool part of the feature set, because it lets people block themselves from teleporting into mature areas by accident (If you've set your account as PG and try to go to a mature region, you'll get a dialog asking if you want to switch over to mature). This feature would seem to be why LL expects that only a smallish portion of content would need to be physically relocated, for a lot of content fair warning is enough. I do wish that something had been said about this mature-PG thing alongside the adult bombshell, this is one of the pieces that lets the scheme make a little more sense.

From: Innula Zenovka This is what's confusing me. I'm not worried about how the items will be classified, but I very concerned about how I may advertise them. You, and everyone else who actually understands the implications of this policy! From: someone As I understand it, no one's seriously contending that a cushion that plays various animations like nadu, tower and so forth is, per se, adult content. It's just that it's going to be difficult to advertise it without using words that will trigger the "adult" search filter. Well, nobody except cyn Linden, who said something akin to "Obviously, a woman in ropes is adult" in one of the brown bags. And it looks like Cyn was the one who wrote the definitons for the blog release- Blondin's definitions have remained fairly consistent, but they bear almost no resemblance to what is on the blog. From: someone I'm trying to understand what my options are. I can sell it from a "mature" sim but not advertise it, or, rather I can advertise it but can't really describe it very well, and my adverts will be visible to everyone. Or I can sell it from an "adult" sim and describe it any way I want, but my adverts will only be visible to people who've chosen to view "adult" adverts.
This much seems clear; what I'm trying to elucidate, though, and perhaps Blondin can assist, is whether I have the option of selling "mature content" items (cushions or slave silks or something) from a shop on a mature sim, but using words in their descriptions, like "BDSM" or "Gor", in advertisements that will only be visible to people who want to view "adult" adverts. Or is the case that we can only use words like "submissive" or "Gorean" in adverts from the safety of an "Adult" sim? Well, Blondin has said that Couldbe's store wouldn't have to move "Except for a few words in the search description", but then wouldn't say what they were. That would indicate to me that what search terms you use *does* affect where you can do business from, but blondin hasn't addressed that point directly. I guess the question would be: In the case of "mature" items sold for "adult" activities (BDSM equipment, slave rugs, prim genitalia, sexgen items and poseballs, etc), can a merchant sell these items on *mature* land using *adult* search terms in the search description? Is it the actual merchandise and activity on a parcel that makes it "adult", or is it the Parcel's (or business's) description in search? I can easily see someone with mature items to sell that wants to cater to an *adult* clientele, and would make the sacrifice of their ads not being seen by those with only "mature" or "PG" content enabled, BUt would such a person have to move to *adult* land in order to do so? ^V^

Additional UI Changes: Pie Menu Changes * When you right-click on another avatar, the Pie menu now includes an option to Report... abuse from that resident. From: Argent Stonecutter PLEASE CHANGE THIS:
If you don't mean "photorealistic", if you mean "photographs", don't use the term "photorealistic", use the term "photograph", because "photorealistic" is a technical term in a number of disciplines and so far as I am familiar with any of them it does not mean what you're using it to mean.
Blondin: this is important. This is *very* important. How about I put it another way? Hand-drawn: Skins (most notably by Aki Shichiroji) that are entirely hand-drawn, as *art*, then scanned in, touched up, saved and imported into world. Digitally created: Skins (from templates or drawn by digital tools) that are created on computers using graphics programs, then saved and iimported into world. Photosourced: Skins created using photograph *sources* of skin, hair tone, freckles, et cetera--one friend I have uses her own lips, for example, as a template for all lips for her skins--then touched up to blend areas, saved, and imported into world. Which did you mean, Blondin? Because even "photosourced" (note, not photorealistic) is not "photograph". For that matter, even "photorealistic" is not PHOTOGRAPH. Photograph is, as has been defined for the history of photography, referring to real life images. Photorealistic means it is *close to* (though not exactly like) photographic real life images. Photosourced means it has *elements from* (though not all elements, as it is NOT a real life image) photographic content, but still is not a real life photograph. So which did you mean, Blondin?

From: Viktoria Dovgal It's something you get to set yourself. Verified users will get to set their own accounts to any of PG, mature or adult, unverified can use the first two. And people will get to switch back and forth as they go, if they change their minds. I see now. It's going to be in Preferences on the new Viewers. That almost makes some logical sense in light of the new policies and how the coders have to implement them. The big picture still makes no sense.

From: Alexander Harbrough As soon as people stop making spurious arguements regarding them such as 'non-english speakers looking for that variety of bird without knowing the word 'songbirds'. JUst because an argument doesn't convince *you*, doesn't make it "spurious". Any word that shares a meaning between an animal and an anatomical reference belonged to the *animal first*. Therefore "tit", "cock", etc. are *slang*. not used the same way by everyone. making them verboten simply because one or two countries in the world happen to use them as sexual slang would generate *quite* a list, including plenty of *English* words which have other meanings in other languages. If you are advocating a massive "cleanup" to remove all *possible* "dirty words" on SL, good luck with that, k? ^V^

From: Blondin Linden If you plan on using Adult words in your ads / search, 1) the place / event will need to be on an adult region and 2) only verified accounts will be able to search and find those key words.
The cushion should be advertised using non adult words
Gor would be considered adult. So, it looks like the *advertising* and *description* are what triggers the "adult" designation. Thanks Blondin. And when can we start putting in our support tickets for the move to pornville again? ^V^
