From: Innula Zenovka Thanks for the clarification. So presumably -- and this pretty much reflects the layout of the shop I'm concerned about -- if we leave it where it is, on a "Mature" sim, we could simply split the land on which it stands into two parcels and advertise the general animations from one parcel and the Gor and BDSM stuff -- unexceptionable content but we need to use words like "Gor," "slave," "BDSM," and "submissive" sensibly to describe it -- from the other? Sorry, but it doesn't work that way- If you advertise things with *adult* terms, and they are adult things, that needs to go on *adult* land, and that setting is set at the region level, not parcel. In order to sell adult stuff, using adult terms, you'll have to be in an adult sim. if you have some borderline adult stuff in your store, and you take the adult words out of your advertising, that you can stay in a "mature" sim or parcel. At least that is my understanding of it. From: someone How does it work, do you know, for advertising places that are on "Adult" land but don't contain "Adult" content, which will be the case, I guess, for a lot of shops on what are currently "Mature" rated private sims? If your ad doesn't contain any objectionable content, will it still be visible to everyone, even though they won't be able to get to the place unless they're age-verified? Or does the fact the ad points to a place that's Adult flagged render it invisible to folks who aren't Adult-verified or have chosen not to view "Adult" content? I'm guessing that your ad won;t be visible to any non-verified searchers, because it directs them to a parcel on the "adult continent". again, there will be *no* "adult* land anywhere else on mainland the only "adult" land will be on Ursula, and on private estates. Again, that's only my understanding of it. -V-

Also add them here http://www.slapt.me/wiki/index.php/Adult_Content_Keywordsand any other references to this debacle as it is an independent wiki and i cannot do it all on my own lol

From: Qie Niangao There seems to be a broad consensus in favor of the goal of separating some level of "adult" content from everything else. Some posters have stated support for the policy as proposed.
Are the rest of us--the ones who see merit in separation but oppose the proposed policy--are we just being bitchy? Are we falling into Voltaire's trap of the perfect being the enemy of the good?
I don't think so. I think there is plenty enough that's glaringly broken about this policy that the only responsible response is active opposition. Papering over its fatal flaws is not supporting Linden Lab and (most emphatically) not advancing the intended goals of such separation. It is dooming the entire endeavor to failure. <snip> So now comes Payment Info as an alternative way to get adult verified (presumably to address another fatal flaw with IDV: high false alarms--too many people who should be able to verify just can't). But Payment Info is even easier than IDV to fake; any credit card will do--and minors increasingly have their own credit cards, so they won't even have to pilfer Mommy's purse. I'm actually in favor of this for all new accounts. not the current crop- just the new ones, from now on. And I'm in favor of a squeaky-clean welcome area that is only accessible by verified accounts. Not because there might be kids in the unverified, but because I want to be able to reasonably *nuke* anyone bothering newcomers- I want anyone dealing with new comers to at least have to jump a couple hoops, and increase the chances of them being a "citizen" as opposed to a griefer. Payment info, not aristotle, is the way to go IMHO -V-

Actually, I ONLY add to slapt's list because a LL controlled wiki could have the page taken down at any time.

From: Sindy Tsure LL calls having payment info on file 'verified' even though credit card companies come right out and say they're not good for that. And anybody in the US that's been in a convenient store in the last 5 years has seen the prepaid cards that anybody can get. Legal age for those is 13.. Ah but have you noticed the subtlety? They are calling PIOF and PIU status "account verification" not "age verification". That way they don't have to deal with claims of misuse of the Credit Cards...

From: Kara Spengler Actually, I ONLY add to slapt's list because a LL controlled wiki could have the page taken down at any time. Since they're both mediawiki, it should be trivial to copy and paste the entire page from one to the other on a regular basis. That way they'll always be in sync.

Is the filter on the client or server?
04-28-2009 04:25
The best place for them to do it would be the server .... but that the current 'stable' version does not filter I would suspect in the client. If the client, maybe a more efficient test would be to find the list in the executable?
If the server, maybe feeding /etc/dictionary to a command line SL client's search? For that matter, via curl to the web search.

I promise that this wiki will not be removed nor will it be censored at anytime, it is hosted on our own servers here in Amsterdam and falls under Dutch law not US and here in Holland it is much more liberal than most places

My email is in my first life tab on my profile or iain@bdsm-life.com will get me

just a little something
04-28-2009 04:37
rezzables are tiering down, they've just dropped 2 sims. Before they announced that decision they also posted this: http://rezzable.com/blog/rightasrain-rimbaud/censorhship-starts-sl-gridpretty safe to say they're not happy. and I've been doing a bit of digging into the new script limits that are coming. It looks like my shop will be crippled by them and that's on top of the move. So if you're business is script heavy you might like to factor that into the equation when deciding whether to continue providing LL user generated content that they can then use as a selling point when they're trying to flog their wares to the outside world.

deja vu

All this word filtering reminds me of the old MSN group days when adult groups were sold off and potential hidden adult content filtered..
Cross Stitch groups were no longer allowed to be created.................
Have the realistic genital attachment vendors realised they won't be found yet because they cant use the correct descriptive words? were these part of the 2-4%? (scoff)
Am i not adult enough? frightened to search 'Yiff' for a translation.....
omg...and my name...ho hum....................

AGE verification vs ACCOUNT verification
04-28-2009 04:50
From: Kalderi Tomsen Ah but have you noticed the subtlety? They are calling PIOF and PIU status "account verification" not "age verification". That way they don't have to deal with claims of misuse of the Credit Cards... Not quite all are calling it that... 22 April - in response to: From: KT Syakumi And if I have a premium account connected to paypal, is that a verified payment method? does that gain me access to adultworld, or is there another step? Blondin replied: From: Blondin Linden You would be double safe as both a Premium account and a verified paypal will both count as age verification. May have been an accidental slip of the tongue, but I for one am keeping a .pdf copy of that piece of advice!

From: Lasher Oh I wonder if the respective Linden handlers for each language are contributing in the same way or if you are being left left to your own devices. I'd love to know what they have been saying. My momentary knowledge after surfing all available german sources is: no Linden talks to the german, austrian, suisse, luxemburgish, add. parts of belgium and holland german speaking community. No kind of Blondin-service...(hehehe, service...well...) there. As far as I know is the german speaking woman Jean Miller the head strategist of Linden Lab for the german speaking market. Last year she spoke at a big SL-RL event in Berlin about the future of SL... - so far I heard not a single word from german speaking Lindens about the adult content/Ursula issue. To answer some questions is so far a one-man show by LL and their one and only messenger-tool: Blondin Linden. And if we scroll down the entry page of this forum... No Linden for that major theme in the korean, japanese, spanish, italian, german parts of the LL forum. As you have seen yesterday: the germans are well organized now in their big http://www.slinfo.de forum/website and so I have no sorrows about them. All other parts of Europe (beside UK wich is for logical reasons perfect informed and active), South Amerika, Asia, Africa, Sub-continent India and all the different smaller communities or singular persons from all over the world are not informed IF they don't speak english or if they don't read the blog and the forums. This is an old aberration of LL: they do global business, but they act and speak local. Local means: their small company container (hahaha), because with their new ideas they would be totaly isolated outsiders in their own town San Francisco wich is *much* more free and open minded than the staff of Linden Research, Inc. LL could learn something from companies like Samsung, LG, or even Microsoft (yes, I know....hehehehe, we are all not really fans of MS) - about international communication and basics of international customer service. The viewer is meanwhile available in some more bad than good translated languages. I think 5 or more. But no announcements at login, no splash screen, no inworld notices about the changes, nothing. I wonder for what does LL talk all day long about the fantastic inworld options like video, sound, conferences and whatever advertising and announcements logistics, - even simple panels and notecard givers would be options -, while they don't use these resources to create infos for the community ingame - on their own islands for example and on strategic points on the grid. And the blog...hahahaha, omg, the blog hypes at day and night the edu and corporate scene in buddhistic-prayer-wheel mode since weeks. K, we know: they want to hide their plan as long as possible, to not wake up the masses too early. They need the flood-gates closed as long as possible. Otherwise we would see a serious revolution and collective dissident behavior now, I bet. This is a thing wich I don't like at LL: LL has no courage! They are mean, they can show big lips, but no courage. For me is this a sign, that they know that their plan and especially their acting around the plan is wrong. A majority here is halfway ok with the idea to create kind of social biotopes for this and that, but we want LL to do that in accordance with us and in a non-reactionary and in a non-repressive fair and intelligent way and on the height of the time wich is a modern and enlighted time, latest since the old greeks, or to name a more contemporary phase, latest since the french revolution, Kant, Fromm, the 1968's movements, the inflation(metaphor) of erotism of all sorts since the 1970's and the end of the cold war in the 90's. The logical result can only be a pure PG continent wich is then available for people wich like to chose the so called PG option by free choice, without any sort of discrimination of and without any pressure on other lifestyles and creativity. Prudery should be dead and gone since ages and NOT new established. From my view Woodstock was the most brightest moment the USA had so far in all their relative young and short history. After that the scenery there became grey and dark and overloaded by fake-moral-acid again - unfortunately. LL is now at the very front of that movement back to "McCarthy" times. Somehow that will not fit to the fact that some sexy intelligence is back on top there in person and aura of Obama. But this nice move, made by the votings of an open minded majority, has not reached LL so far. They're stucking in the grey times, latest since this M. Kingdon phenomen appeared as a kind of no-name whitebread in international biz... and to complete the scandal: he is surrounded by similar boring ppl. wich he installed immediatly and wich are similar no names without any charisma and without any intelligent visions about *how* to act integrative and organic with and for a pulsating cosmopolitan scene full of life and extraordinaire creativity, instead of segregating and isolating people and lifestyles, art and expressions. I would say: LL started as avantgarde and is now only a third-class mini-company with first class customers (we), because we do not only pay - we're also the people who created the thing complete with OUR brains and hands since years and through thick and thin - through bad and good times. They would be a fart (sorry LL - me is talking austrian style, hehehe) in the wind and economical and intellectual dead without us.

From: JaneD DeCuir and keep the prude americans out from it! You don't get it, do you? For the "prude Americans" a simple "Yes I am 18, let me in" is all you need to access even sites that show RL pr0n material. It is governments like yours who force the hardest forms of age verification on people who just want to see some pixel bumping (or even ban some forms of pixel bumping completely). If you don't like age verification and sex bans you should rather want "to keep the prude Germans out of SL" (and for yourself - you better move to the US ASAP).

From: Valerius Constantine Sorry, but it doesn't work that way- If you advertise things with *adult* terms, and they are adult things, that needs to go on *adult* land, and that setting is set at the region level, not parcel. In order to sell adult stuff, using adult terms, you'll have to be in an adult sim. if you have some borderline adult stuff in your store, and you take the adult words out of your advertising, that you can stay in a "mature" sim or parcel. At least that is my understanding of it -V- This is what's confusing me. I'm not worried about how the items will be classified, but I very concerned about how I may advertise them. As I understand it, no one's seriously contending that a cushion that plays various animations like nadu, tower and so forth is, per se, adult content. It's just that it's going to be difficult to advertise it without using words that will trigger the "adult" search filter. I'm trying to understand what my options are. I can sell it from a "mature" sim but not advertise it, or, rather I can advertise it but can't really describe it very well, and my adverts will be visible to everyone. Or I can sell it from an "adult" sim and describe it any way I want, but my adverts will only be visible to people who've chosen to view "adult" adverts. This much seems clear; what I'm trying to elucidate, though, and perhaps Blondin can assist, is whether I have the option of selling "mature content" items (cushions or slave silks or something) from a shop on a mature sim, but using words in their descriptions, like "BDSM" or "Gor", in advertisements that will only be visible to people who want to view "adult" adverts. Or is the case that we can only use words like "submissive" or "Gorean" in adverts from the safety of an "Adult" sim?
