Because wanting to move there so you have freedom to do what you want isn't part of this plan. LL don't seem to understand that people would want to move there.

LL = Liar! Liar!
04-26-2009 08:18
Blondin's comments and suggestions on Friday finally made something very clear to me. Linden Lab are liars.
As LL's official spokesman here, Blondin explicitly encouraged people to lie about their businesses, products, and activities in Search, in order to circumvent LL's own rules. He encouraged people to hide their adult content and activities, in the hopes of avoiding being AR'd.
I asked myself, "Why would someone suggest, seemingly without the slightest hesitation, that lying is an acceptable course of action?" Answer: because that person, and the corporate culture he represents, think nothing of lying themselves. It's a perfectly acceptable behavior to them.
What are they lying about? Everything. They know damn well that adult content comprises about 50% of the mainland, not the official "2 to 4%". They know damn well that the 250 sim Ursula continent is far too small to accommodate all the adult content.
They're counting on it. And they're lying about making more adult rated sims if the demand warrants it, too. 250 is all we are going to get.
Here's how it will work. Come "A" day, LL will hand pick that 2 to 4 % and let them move to the new continent. Everyone else will either have to
a) get rid of their adult content and Disneyfy themselves, or b) stop advertising, lose most of their customers, and go out of business, or c) try to buy overpriced land on Ursula from a speculator, or pay high rent to a private estate owner for Adult space, or d) operate in defiance of the law until some nanny blows the whistle on them, and then they are back to a), b) or c).
They WANT this to happen. They WANT adult content providers to go out of business. They WANT them to leave SL. THAT, my friends, is the real plan. That is why a PG continent "doesn't fit the plan".
They've lied to us from start to finish, and they will keep right on lying up until the day we pack up and leave. And then they will say, "We're sorry you weren't able to run a successful business here, but hey, it's a tough world and not everyone has what it takes to succeed." Because it won't be them kicking us out, it will be us leaving of our own free will.
I submit to you, Blondin, and Meta, and Blue and M and all the rest, that lying is a far worse sin than pixel sex. I have nothing but contempt for the whole rotten pack of you.

That is why a PG continent "doesn't fit the plan". Absolutely, many clubs fund themselves from affiliate sales, you put all those clubs in one place and they can't all do that. The lack of respect for estate adult business on mixed use estates says it all, some will be kicked out of estates, LL offer no assistance, so those business ventures will be gone.

Dear Colette Thank you for asking the first question in our new LindenYahoos Answer Forum. As you know, our new Adult content policy will have an unwanted impact on many residents, disrupt their lives, and will inconvenience them greatly. It is part of our Predictable Second Life Experience (tm). However, enforcing those guidelines would be a massive undetaking, one that we aren't capable of doing, even if we wanted to. By suggesting residents simply play a few word games to circumvent the policies keeps us from having to process move requests and AR's, yet gives our new targeted customers the idea we are doing something proactive to clean up Second Life. A win/ win for us, wouldn't you say? Thanks again for your question, and for helping us make Second Life "The Second Most Happiest Place in the World". (tm) Sloth Linden

From: Ayla Holt I would be glad to help sponsor a banner ad as well. IM me in world if you decide to do that and I will drop you some L$'s I've just done a check of the homepage views for the toy. Interestingly it looks like LL may have pulled it from the homepage without advising me or refunding the money. I have a normal (read censored) homepage ad running that so far today has had around 450 views so far.. normally for a day it's around 1000 -1200 views. For an adult item you expect around 1/3 less as there are less eyes that log directly onto the site using the uncensored link. Today so far I should have had around 300 homepage views for the toy.. Instead I've had 21. I'll wait until the end of the day before lodging a support ticket but by the look of it LL have just demonstrated again that they have no concept of the term "business ethics". Just once I'd like these guys to drop the sharp business practices and behave like a credible company. I'm scouting out other sl themed sites that are not run by LL. It's the only way that this is going to happen.

From: Lindal Kidd They've lied to us from start to finish, They have a history of this, they did it on openspaces. When they shoved the prices up they said it was due to people not using them as suggested, despite people asking them if such ventures were ok on Openspaces and previous forum comments from Lindens saying it was ok to use them in such a fashion. This is how they operate.

LL: Missing the Forest for the Trees
04-26-2009 08:37
In my last post, I called LL a pack of liars. In this one, I'm going to imply they're dumb. Sorry, guys, but I call them like I see them.
In their eagerness to scrub all taint of pixel sex from Second Life, LL has completely failed to realize the value of their product. They're trying hard to make it into something that it is not, and never can be, while at the same time overlooking its tremendous value AS IT STANDS.
We all know that there is a lot of porn on the internet, right? Thousands and thousands of sites with pictures, video, story files, sex toys and provocative clothes for sale. Hundreds of "meet fellow swingers" social networking sites.
At the same time, most of us don't use those sites. Why not? One reason is because it's dangerous. Internet porn sites are notorious places to pick up malware, viruses, Trojans. There's a constant risk of laying yourself open to identity theft. It's dangerous for the people who provide the content, too. Young girls, putting their faces right there for anyone to recognize. They're risking stalkers, they're risking their Real Life jobs and reputations.
Despite these risks, the human sex drive is so strong that these sites find plenty of content providers, and plenty of customers.
What if there were a safer way? A way that protected the customer, and the content provider? There is: it's Second Life.
LL, you should be shouting this from the rooftops, not trying to sweep it under the rug. An SL "escort" may not make as much money as a "live webcam" girl...but she can have fun, and do it anonymously and safely. Customers can access adult content of many types in SL anonymously, too...and usually for MUCH less than they would pay on a "traditional" internet porn site.
SL's adult content isn't a liability, it's your biggest asset. And you are throwing it away.

LOL. They will never go for that. Still the 2-4% was so ridiculous you could tell they were playing games with the numbers.

From: Brenda Connolly It is. And in concept it makes sense. But it is being horribly implemented. It's fine to want to bring in a new customer base. But is it necessary to alienate the existing customer base in doing it, in such a disingenuous and contemptuous manner? Sometimes LL has done stuff that makes me spit tacks also. I think is becoming obvious now that there will be two standards governing content. A broad one for land and content on that land, both M and X (A), and a second more restrictive one for advertising that same content. I really going to spit tacks if peoples requests to move to Ursula are denied because the criteria to do so is based solely on the first. At the moment this whole matter is still up in the air a little bit. LL could still use the advertising standard as the criteria. I really hope so anyways.

I'm scouting out other sl themed sites that are not run by LL. It's the only way that this is going to happen. I see it as having a homepage preference. And I bought one this morning. Left a 5 star rating. Put the sign up at my Lotsa balls store in-between my free sex balls boxes and made it huge so people can't miss it. I took a picture of me on the toy and sent it to you in world. Somehow I don't think any of this is going to do any good but at least I feel like we are making an effort. It's rather like voting to me. Because you can't bitch about something if you didn't take the time to voice your opinion on it. I'm thrilled that all of the people that have written on this forum and other places and have stated their stand on this issue. I wonder though if LL will "allow" a paid banner ad to go up on xstreet for a opinion that doesn't match theirs. hmmmm guess we'll see.

Comment on definitions and discussion
04-26-2009 08:49
I am not into adult content but I just want to say that the currently posted definitions for adult, mature and PG seem very prudish, and vague. Also overall Linden Labs contribution to this discussion seems miniscule.

reply to blondin
04-26-2009 08:50
From: Blondin Linden This does not qualify as adult. You would be fine on a Mature region. So Blondin, what this means is that my store which has items you can use to have sex with is not adult? Hell I get visitors just popping in to make whoopee on the display models! Now if we are saying a house with a bed is adult but my shop with a sex bed and various sex/ bondage items is not then I wonder how anyone will find it easy to discern the rules over this. I must wonder if this has more to do with the fact that there will be a huge amount of requests for land on the new continent! My shop is SSBDSM and I advise you check what I sell before making such a simple judgement as when I get told to shut up shop at a later date I will be quoting you of course. I think given the Lindens own guidelines for this that you have this totally wrong. I'll expect the offer of a parcel as soon as you see my shop. Please feel free to IM me in world to clarify. many thanks for the reply Marcia Moulliez

04-26-2009 08:50
From: Blue Linden Thank you very much for your ongoing feedback! We have closed the previous thread in order to compile and provide some answers to questions in the hopes that we can further the discussion. Please do feel free to join the conversation! Hey LL i have been having alot of new residents asking me if they could "do adult things" (sexual intercourse) within private areas such as islands and skyboxes. could you enlighten me on this part of it? Thanks! Oz

From: Tabliopa Underwood LL probably keep avatar-naming and asset serving to themselves because is practical, but Continent hosting, account registration, billing and stuff like this be licensed out to other hosting providers. Providers we can choose or not as it suits us.
Is a bold plan.
If you were selling shares then I buy them. But probably be a bidding war so I maybe not get them =)
Problem is LL are going about it in an arse about face way as per normal and people are losing faith in LL as a company and whilst treating their customers like idiots and with contempt they will perhaps lose the ground and become the Betamax of the 3D worlds, whilst the competitors close in and learn from LL mistakes and even Mitch, who is on public record telling us what he thinks of us, admits this is a long term plan and being long term I would have thought LL would wish to keep its customers, because their will be a great alternative in a few years i am sure if LL continues to alienate its customer base, guess who will probably be the winner, and it won't be LL as it is now. SL has some much future potential, just a shame the company behind it continues to go down the betamax road. Just my opinion though.

hahahahah in other words, they want potential new users but not sick perverts like us. You know the real users.

The clear implication is that being told we are not sufficiently "adult" and therefore do not qualify for a relocate will be not be an affirmative defense against future ARs. All it will take is one prude objecting to your shop and one member of the gteam in a bad mood and your business is toast because by that point anyone that wishes to move to Ursula will have to buy from the speculators at Bay City prices. Once the free swaps are done every remaining sqm will be grabbed by them in moments.

From: Innula Zenovka Ah.. that's not what the sign says, or what Live Help seemed to think-- I believe you rather than them, but I'm just saying. From: Argent Stonecutter The sign is old. From: someone Does this mean that, if I can tp to Arapmaima (which I can) using Second Life 1.22.11, I'm OK? That's the official word, yes. Don't bother with the newer versions yet, they're developer-only and not final. Thanks so much. Is there a reference for this "official word"? I want to AR the damn sign for wasting so much of my time -- and that of paid Linden Labs employees who needlessly looked into the matter on my behalf. Though it would be nice, I guess, if someone in Linden Labs bothered to tell customer support what was going on...

From: Couldbe Yue The flickr picture is the most important part of the publicity. It allows people outside of sl to see that there is a groundswell of opinion against this. If it ends up being 1/2 dozen pics then LL can use it as a stick to say that on the whole people were happy as very few malcontents put their hand up. so post!! or send the pic to me if you don't have a flickr account and I'll post it.
