I do hope by now everyone realises that Blondie is not here to discuss these changes, only tell you how they will be done.
The so called consultation with business, content providers, etc, NEVER TOOK PLACE!!! I have asked many of my freinds who are big content providers, no one talked to them or me, no one consulted any of us, no one even bothered to contact any of us!! and no one they know or i know got contacted either.
This thread is here so they can tell you what they WILL DO, plain and simple, express dissatifaction at the blog postings or the whole process and your ignored.
So don't waste your time, they obviously are not listening to any of us, nor do they plan to inform the general membership as has been seen by their complete lack of wanting to post anything at login or emailing the members. Hell they have no problem emailing me to try to sell me more homesteads.
Blondie and the rest of the Lindens are treating this like a big PR excercise, they have a goal and they are going for it, no matter what. Cyn's blog entry is a joke. No one i know was consulted and we are all major content providers. Oh wait, let me guess they only contacted pg content providers that expressed positive attitudes towards these changes.
When this started and many of us asked real questions, Blondie ignored us. He has continued to do so from the start. He has no interest in our views, he is here only to tell us how and when these things will happen, like it or not.
Cyn's comments about all the positive feedback, is a joke!! Who did she get feedback from?? Not any of us!!!

From: Lindal Kidd I don't think skin makers are in trouble (not this round, anyway). Did you happen to hear about the kid skin makers who got their disney-safe vendors retrned to them?

my question is this.
is BDSM as a whole gonna be rated mature or certain things? 80% of the people i see even on "family friendly" sims are collared in some way.
how will it affect that?

From: Blondin Linden From: DanielRavenNest Noe Please give us a list of adult key words, so we know which to use or not use in listings as appropriate.
Its unfair to expect us to *guess* which words we can not use, and get abuse reported for making the wrong guess . We can't provide a list. I'm sorry about that. But you won't have to guess. If you use a word that has been flagged, a message will pop up and notify you of the word. What about Classified adds or Land discriptions that have been up and running for the longest time, will we still get the pop up or will we have to jump through some kind of hoop to know if we used words that are adult?

Wiki Page for Keywords in Search
04-22-2009 17:53
I have created a new wiki page for keywords in search: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Search_keywordsSince keywords that are designated adult will be filtered in search results, it it to everyone's benefit to understand which words will be filtered. When it is possible to use the filtered search and experiment to determine which words are filtered (I believe that will be with client version 1.23), please update that wiki page as required As Minx mentioned a few posts back, once the filtering starts, then *existing* entries will either vanish for non-verified people, or get you into trouble (using adult words, when your land, event, etc is not on adult land)

From: Valerius Constantine Argent, If Blondin says one thing, and Cyn's blog post and the faq linked to it say another, which one do you think will be the final decision? I think we need to archive what they say so we can point to it when a year from now some idiot says the equivalent of "but of COURSE it's obvious what OpenSpace means" and we go back to the Blog where they said something different and it's gone. I've put some of it together on the Wiki, but I think it might be useful to start collecting this stuff in another Wiki independent of Linden Labs.

Let me refer you to an earlier angry responder that was aghast that *NO one knew who she was*. I'm still waiting on some response to our suggestion that LL put a mandatory poll on the log ins to 1. alert people of these changes, and 2. get some REAL numbers. The Religious Nuts Have Done it Again
04-22-2009 18:06
SL saying that they are enacting restrictions on access to adult content to "give residents greater control" is just two faced public relations agency intellectual dishonesty. They are actually contracting the range of experiences available to users of SL with this stupid, unnecessary action.
It just sucks that the religious freaks use kids to restrict my ability to have fun with other consenting adults. After all, you have to intentionally access a mature area to participate in SL sex or other kinds of adult play. You don't just accidentally bump into it. I have a daughter, though she is an adult now. I shouldn't have to also watch your kids for you. Step up to the plate and be a real parent, okay? Don't expect third parties to raise them for you.
So I expect that SL will be gone within a year. Yeah, they will keep talking about the millions of users they supposedly have, but those numbers will be a lie because they can't seem to get more than 80,000 on at a time through yesterday and they keep increasing technical requirements to the point that people like me, who have just general middle of the road computers, are going to be left out. And I am the vast majority of computer users.
Surely, with all the emptiness that SL has, it has seemed to want to make it even more of a deserted wasteland because who in their right mind is going to obey SL's "let me see your papers" demand? I have no confidence that the third party SL will use for verification won't be subject to hacking attacks like major retailers have been.
Believe me SL, you just signed your own death warrant. I've only been on just a couple f months, so I'm really angry that you listened to religious cranks and not your users. I guess no fun will be left unpunished. Going under is your punishment for having no guts.

From: Couldbe Yue get a grip mate. If I'm in a combat sim then I expect to see that kind of thing. If I'm not then I don't.. your whining about having your freedom curtailed is becoming tedious.
Your only freedom is to do your own thing with like minded people. If you do that I don't care what you do. When however you invade my view and make me witness it unwillingly then you've reduced my freedom through your selfishness.
Why should I be forced to leave somewhere because you and your little friends decide that you want to play right in that spot.
yawn. grow up.
and of course you deliberately misconstrued what I said.. so see the previous comment. Wow, talk about deliberate misconstruction of comments. We're not talking about 'me and my little friends' invading your 'view.' We're talking about people being forced to leave *their* places and *their* parcels because a small amount of people can't handle that they exist *anywhere.* The things I do are done in specific areas, far away from other prying eyes, and only with like-minded people. We play some 2-4000m up in skyboxes. We are not doing anything in your 'view'. We only play there, and not anywhere else. Yet, we are going to be made to move. Forced to move, in fact. Your freedoms are not being reduced by our presence, because likely you don't even know we're there. Yet, your demands seek to limit *our* freedoms by forcing us into a little internment camp for the so-called Adult Content" crowd. Oh, and one more thing... our game is on the mainland, not an island. So even though we exist long out of sight and nowhere near your 'view,' we're still going to be forced to move. So, you want to try again?

/me carefully slips a note under the rock cause I recognized the name by chance. Suzanna Soyinka is the person behind the combat system commonly referred to as CCS. Being as these new definitions are so broad now, even more broad than in the original postings, she's probably being IM bombed by toooooons of people wondering how this is going to affect access to the roleplay combat sims that use that combat system. This is on top of a very recent update to the system which probably already had her running circles because it was a fairly substantial one. just and FYI for those still confused ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ now, back to the topic at hand... Blondin, if in the new definitions the use of the word photorealistic does not equal the traditional use of that word then please have somebody edit the definition to change photorealistic to photographic. AND... it STILL hurts a lot of photographers who might show the nude form for it's inherent beauty and nothing to do with sexuality. As long as the term photorealistic is used and not photographic (if you really do mean only rl photos) then, I'm sorry, but it's impossible for me to believe that artists and skin sellers will not be affected. We strive for 'photorealism'. We may not reach it, but for some it is the goal. As it has a meaning outside of SL other than what you are implying in your answers the use of the word is opening up the opportunity for a lot of AR's for content that is not photographic. If photographic nudity really is the line then the new definitions need to reflect that, if photoreal really is the line then skin sellers and artists who don't like to cover those bits could be the target of many many AR's depending on who is determining how close to photoreal any particular skin or piece is. Either way, I see a lot of artists and photographers who may like to work with nude images but whose pieces aren't overtly sexual now needing to move to Ursula. The definitions didn't exclude more people from adult status, instead more mature people now fall under the adult line.

[/QUOTE So far, with my poll (109 votes) /327/43/317552/3.html#post2399996The results are 40% adult, with a standard error (one sigma) of 10% This can be reported as 30-50% adult (it means the same as the previous line, in the normal way of reporting poll results)

Really, can anyone be surprised? Cynicism will achieve nothing, bcause it is merely stating the blindingly obvious. What bothers me is that LL seem genuinely to believe that this laggy unstable system is a business and education tool.
That delusory attitude saddens me. But then so does the fact that no-one stopped Capitalism from collapsing into the credit-crunch.
We are all Adult content, but we also appear to have severe learning difficulties.

Just what are these obvious adult keywords, anyway?
04-22-2009 18:22
I'm confused.
LL new FAQ and policy thing on this says several times that "obvious adult" keywords will mean adult content to them, regardless of what actually exists on any parcel.
So why can't they just list all the obvious adult keywords, since to them it's so very obvious???

From: samatha Congrejo I do hope by now everyone realises that Blondie is not here to discuss these changes, only tell you how they will be done. Blondin is doing his best in difficult circumstances and even if he can't quite grasp why estate owners are getting shafted over this and fails to realise why mixed use estates are a problem that should be left to parcel level management he does actually try to discuss the issue. Where are the people above Bloindin who are driving this policy? Why haven't they been here trying to defend this position instead of leaving it all to Blondin? The decision does seem to be made and the reasons LL are giving for these changes are absolute balderdash but it's the senior management who won't come near this thread who should bear the brunt of residents frustrations, not Blondin.

From: RichD Tomsen Actually NO... "Adult" In RL is the blatant display of the Female vagina in a non clinical manner or the male erect penis. everything else is considered PG or Mature. I use the difference between a move shown on Cinamax and that same move shown in a XXX movie house... its not about what is perceived.. its about what is actually shown. there is a very clear definition Because as we all ll know, the human body is evil. The Rev. Chester Molester told you so.

From: Taylor Heron I'm confused.
So why can't they just list all the obvious adult keywords, since to them it's so very obvious??? Blondin said: We can't provide a list. I'm sorry about that. But you won't have to guess. If you use a word that has been flagged, a message will pop up and notify you of the word. My reading of his reply: Its not going to be a fixed list, and they have not written it yet. They will add and remove flagged words over time as they come across them. If you want to come up with a pretty close guess, search for some adult stuff in SL now, in classified ads, and look at all the words appended in the description text. The classified ad writers have incentive to find the best words to link their adult stuff to. If I had the job of coming up with the flagged list, thats what I would do, comb through some search listings. Blondin also said: No filtering is yet happening. The list won't be publicly available -- it would make gaming it too easy To which I reply: Yes it will, about an hour after you start filtering it, the wiki page for the list is already there. If you take that down, it will be posted to a website you don't control.

Final words

I've been against this since I first heard of it, and that opinion hasn't changed. What I am looking forward to now, is that guy that realises that he can make a fortune by continue that which Lindens started. Because someone will. Someone will make a place that will be everything that SL should be, that SL was. I can't wait.
Bye all. Bye SL. Been fun.

From: Blondin Linden No filtering is yet happening. The list won't be publicly available -- it would make gaming it too easy, and we're trying to disincentivize gaming, so that the Adult initiative will have critical mass and enable better targeting of users, via customized search. But we are being careful to AVOID words that have non-AO usage, so no one will be surprised. In other words, you won't be filtered unless you're using VERY COMMONLY UNDERSTOOD "Adult" terms. Also, if you trigger a word in a classified or event, the error message will tell you what word caused the issue. You won't have to guess.
for those asking about the keyword thingie... from post 3 of this thread

From: Jaereth Enoch Wow, talk about deliberate misconstruction of comments. So, you want to try again? nope, I still maintain you wilfully misconstrued my original post. I'm going to end up on the cattle truck too if I decide to continue to run a business in sl when the scum are swept from the streets. My decision is whether it's worthwhile staying and putting up with the aggravation of moving so much stuff, suffer the combined effects of the summer slow down plus losing all search positions etc and of course the instability of the platform itself..or packing it in. You lot have got to understand that this is a business. That's why they got Mitch in to actually try to turn it from the cowboy outfit is was into something respectable. You have no rights and the only freedom you truly have in here is to stop supporting them and find something else. The dream is long gone. It hasn't been our world for a long time now and no amount of wishful thinking will ever make it return. The new reality is that this is a business that will constantly seek new markets and to redefine it's reputation as needed. In case you hadn't noticed there are a lot of people who wouldn't want to get on the truck with us and are doing their damnedest to make sure they're not on the list. Plainly the adult reputation is one they do not want. Yes, there are better ways LL could have tackled this, but subtlety, finesse and goodwill towards their customers is not something LL is renowned for. So in the end we wait for them and their overpriced consultants to come up with the policy. As you can already see the application of the policy will be another of those that is more noted for its breach than observance. and that's it. Vent all you like but it will make not a scrap of difference in the end. It never has and it never will.
