You had better listen to that Linden Lab management! This will save you lots of grief, and maybe even your bonuses.
Ummm, haven't you heard? Business executives who run their companies into the ground are entitled to large, 7- to 8-figure bonuses, compliments of the US taxpayers.

If I can pick out some waterfront land on the new continent,
I'll turn my land into an Adult Content Club on the mainland.

If I post some sex pictures from the internet,
will this count?

That shows up on the first page of results in Search/All with Include Mature content unchecked when you enter the search word "furniture". This is the kind of thing people are talking about when they say Adult content is inappropriately displayed in SL.
Yes, I agree. Search is borked. Linden Labs need to devote their efforts to cleaning up search and enforcing existing rules, and stop wasting effort trying to mask the symptoms of their lack of enforcement.

No one at LL has been able to articulate the reason or need for doing this.

If they don't know why they do that, it's a lack of IQ and if they know it and being just not in the mood to tell us paying customers the full and unmasked whole naked truth, it's a lack of courtesy and creditworthiness in all meanings.

Okay, seriously. The ONLY reason people hold this sort of perception is because the media, on a slow news day, spoon-fed them this perception.

The same people think the internet is full of porn anyway so why bother trying to convince them Second Life is a worthwhile exercise.

There are an awful lot of businesses and other organizations that restrict display of sexual content and behavior.

Even most taverns and bars do.

Perhaps in RL. But we are not in RL are we. Get some perspective.

The more this kind of censorship is forced into SL the quicker the magic dies. Andit becomes just fake RL.

Tollerance.

The risk of being free to express yourself is the possibility of someone elses expressions of freedom might offend you.

Personaly I find this risk acceptable.

It is intereting that they do not do a full disclosure of the reasonings behind this, and if so many are for it where are they why have only a limited few out side LL made a comment here?

This was posted in a thread in RA...I think it is a very simple and elegantly stated idea, and I am in agreement with it 100%
I hope the OP doesn't mind .

In my opinion, the it's not the value of this land vs. that land that I'm concerned about. It's more the overall SL experience is diminished. It's like the dream is dying. It's like real life has caught up with SL. It's no longer hilariously outrageous everywhere you look anymore. We have to behave, or move to a special ghetto. So the "real grid" will be neat and clean and won't offend children or good Christians. It's like 1860 in the Old West, and the railroad is coming, and we're going to be a state, and so now the saloons and the brothels are closing, the murder rate goes way down, and the churches are going up. Yes, it's probably inevitable and the right direction to move in, but it just isn't as much fun.

Looks like it will to me. Searching on keyword "furniture" without Include Adult content checked would not display this add under the new policy.
Searching on that keyword should not bring that entry up RIGHT NOW unless the business owner is breaking the TOS, because the parcel they're in should be flagged as mature. And there's no guarantee that parcel is going to have to move to the Adult continent.
From: someone
If it is just a matter of the business owner deliberately breaking the TOS, that's pretty easy to deal with the same way they would any other TOS violation.
So why don't you take care of that? You know what to do.

As an aside:
Once all the adult activity moves to a place where the "instant signup griefer alts" cannot easily go then they will turn their attention elsewhere. I would sure hate to be on a corporate sim trying to hold a serious meeting when that happens.
If a house has free access and contains a sex bed that anyone could stop by and use, is that adult? After checking a couple of dozen places I would estimate that something like 80%+ of mainland houses contain a sex bed.

Sadly it's what we always do. Humans always start with a free society where everyone can do exactly what they want. And we hate it. We complain because of that very reason, because people can do what they want. People complain because they have a different idea of what's right and wrong. So we get together and decide to put rules on everything, which the majority can agree on. Then we decide to elect people to enforce those rules. Then those people elected to enforce the rules take the power into their own hands to create new rules which they see fit. And before you know it, you achieve creating something we don't like as well, not being able to do what we want.

It's the basic human condition and sadly it has been that way since the dawn of time. We have two choices:

A) Be free to do what we want, and accept others will do things we don't like.
B) Put rules on everything until we can't do what we want, but neither can anyone else

In either case we're not happy. The only way for the human race to live happily, is if we either learn to love and appreciate everything which we all do together, and understand each other (LOL! Yea, that's gonna happen </sarcasm>;). Or just live separately away from each other in little bubbles all by ourselves.

Which is more or less what LL is trying to do. They're trying to make a 'Clean' bubble and a 'Smut' bubble and put people in one or the other. No one can live together, so divide them. Which creates separate groups, and which will lead to less understanding of each other and eventually fighting and conflict.

Yay! Being human is awesome. .__.

i mean am i wrong to say that...i mean come on parents keep a better eye on what your teenagers are doing for god's sakes...both my kids play secondlife and i make sure they are on the teen grid....

No you're totally right. LL shouldn't be babysitting someone's kids for them, nor should any company.

If your kid isn't old enough to be adult (or at least mature) then you need to be looking after them, it's expected in real life: every single day of it. What makes the internet, filled with everything the world is, so different that suddenly a parent can neglect their child and let them do whatever they want?

a mild alternative/compromise:

Leave mature alone...make 3012 (or whatever the limit is) and above adult. This will still allow for those who have their private homes landscaped to see the sunset/etc still enjoy that. Businesses that are flagged adult, would move to the 3012, OR have the option to move to the new adult sim, so that they can terraform a new store/land/park.

I feel that this would give a little more flexibility, especially to those who have 90% "regular" (read: non-adult) items, with a little "flavor" thrown in...i can still advertise my store, and have a skybox that allows people to tp up if they wish to see the more risque items.

This would also allow for...say, escort/strip clubs, keep things very neutral down on ground, then put the "fun stuff" up in the boxes, away from everyone else.

I think this would give some of us a little more flexibility, whereas trying to come up with a middle ground of sorts.

Blondin

This is exactly the thought I was having when I said erotic art should be allowed to remain on the mature current land, where as porn should be removed to the adult area, although some will find offence at anything even slightly risque, the majority will not.

Being to strict with classification will force most mature adults to adult areas, when they have no real desire to access extreme adult content, something that should be avoided.

Cristopher put forward some excellent examples, of the distinction between art and porn.

When you can define the difference between erotic art and porn, let me know. That's really the problem right there. RP'd scenes are in the balance on this as are images, sounds, gestures and profiles. Until LL is able to make those of us who choose to be invisible to the likes of Nany and, heaven forfend, her children, this whole deal is a recipe for getting AR'd for simple creative expression of mature themes that will drift on the margins of eroticism and porn and adult humor.

If Linden labs manages to define the difference between erotic art and porn they can throw away SL as Bill Gates might toss out a Timex with a dead battery because they will have truly achieved something innovative. Defining this distinction successfully is a business opportunity that dwarfs SL. It's also impossible.

confused about the changes

i was wondering if i will be forced to move to this new location since i visit alot of adult content locations. i work at club gothika which has dancers that strip for money and play some questionable music but i work there because i enjoy it and they people there. i also own several pieces of sex furniture and will be angry if that is taken away from me. i don't like the idea of having to work with a third party. i also play bloodlines and my avatar i guess can be considered child size because its 5'2" but that is because how tall i am in real life. i guess what im saying is that i would like to keep things the way they are now because i'm content and i just got done all the landscaping i wanted to do outside my home and i would like to keep everything in my house.

I host classes on BDSM where i talk to people and discuss their sexuality and what they are looking for in a partner. The idea of these classes is to promote safe sane consentual play. There is no sexual content at all. I do not show people what to do with their charges. I don't parade people around naked ect. All i do is try to get the concept across that everyone is diffrent and that in the end no means no. Am i going to be hidden away on the mature sim then? There is no nudity at all and sex education starts beofre the age of concent.

Also what happens when i want to have sex in my house? Will i be allowed to if i live on non mature land?

Also does this mean that Linden labs will now allow us to gamble if the mature content is put all together? All the people there will be old enough to afterall.

I see a market for camping chairs wich giving a bible out, all ten minutes. So, never give up! Even the prudes have their needs. Also a rebuild of the home of the Waltons-Family will be a successfully running biz. Some apostel-outfits and chastitiy belts will complete my new sortiment. By the way: the bibles contributing camping chair will certainly have a confessional design.

Additional I will include a strict virginity check at entry of my shop. I do that personally in my second-life second profession as ultra-catholic and ultra-evangelical trusted (yes, you heard right - this is living ecumenism!) - gynecologist, as customer service...because I do not trust credit-cards and age checks, - there is consequent fact finding needed and necessary!

No entry for non-virgins! Trust is good, but control is better!

My point is your idea would work fine if everyone was a premium account but not everyone is nor can everyone afford to be. Should those people be ostracized because of a fixed or low income? I don't think that would be right nor fair.
Point taken. I've never had a Premium account, nor am I ever likely to. All my accounts are both Payment Info Used and Adult Age Verified.

All it takes to get access according to LL's current plan is either successfully performing the aristotle age validation check (Fine in some countries, but impossible or illegal in others), or having any acceptable sort of payment info on file. That can be accomplished as easily as buying a $5 one-time-use VISA debit card at Wal-Mart and using that as the payment info and funding source to but $5 worth of L$. Can you afford $5 pr alt, which you get back as L$ that you can spend in-world?

They have said having a Verified Pay Pal account is sufficent. In the USA, that means simply getting a PayPal account and linking it to your checking account or to a credit card as "overdraft protection".

LL should also allow some other means of validation. Since the available methods don't work in all countries.

They really are putting the cart before the horse on this one, insisting that they WILL act on this change before ensuring that the changes they are talking about are even *possible* for many of their users.

Blindon - sorry! - was a typo - Blondin Linden is actualy on his way to do an on-site inspection on all grey-zone mature/adult sex locations (wich is the reason, that we will hear longer nothing from him...and if he comes back, he will have weak knees, because this job is consumptive and exhausting)

He is the man!

He will decide!

Trust him!

He has permission from above. From VERY above...

Private Residences
03-26-2009 18:08
The whole issue of 'private residences' is a nightmare in the making.

I mean...what exactly is a private residence ? One cannot simply define it as any place where someone resides and there isn't a public club.

HERE IS THE CONUNDRUM. LL I HOPE YOU ARE READING :-

If I was the only person living on a sim, and nobody else ever entered....then yes that would be private. But the minute you introduce anyone else, it gets complicated.

What if I have one friend and grant them unrestricted access to a 'private' dungeon on my sim ? Is this then a public sim ? Hardly....as 99.999% of the public are barred. Most would agree that this is just a little private situation. No problems.

OK...so what about 5 friends ? Just a little collection of friends. Only 5....nothing hugely public. Even with this...most would agree...just a private do. Though some might start to disagree.

What about 30 friends ? Or 100, or 200 ?

What if I have 1000 friends and give them all the same access ? Hmm...i think by that point most would argue I was running a public sim.

But...who is going to tell me how many friends makes that so ??? Where is the LL edict on how long a piece of string is ?

And how would any such edict possibly be enforced ? How do you know those 1000 people are not really all my private friends ??

I predict this issue will cause major problems.
