But we have to accept the direction things are going in. Parcel and island owners can restrict their areas to adult verification and payment info on file now - that means kids cannot enter. And that was added for a reason. I feel the kids will be here by summer 2010. The entire grid has to be that safe place or LL will get dragged over the coals for such a move. So internet predators masquerading as 8 year old girls in Second Life will have to become a thing of the past.

You're so far off the mark it's untrue. Where do you think predators are going to head for? Adultsivlle where you need to provide RL info or PGsville where you can im away to your heart's content with fake details?

I see where you are coming from but Second life is a business first, and this possible setup would reap a maximum in dollar return/investments for the company and for future stockholders.
Should they do something like this I would be willing to invest money into it. But as SL sets now its a disaster. I won't put one dime in it till some sort of plan is set in place.

If you're under the delusion that merging the grids will somehow lead to a ban on child avatars, you are dead wrong. You won't be able to swing a dead cat without hitting a child avatar in that Second Life.

Has there, in fact, ever been a case reported of some internet predator being convicted of so doing? Or do you just mean it's a theoretical possibility?

I have to say, unless the internet predator were exceptionally dim, I'd have thought he'd be more likely to try to get into Teen Grid and disguise himself there, rather than wander round the main grid disguised as an 8-year-old girl and hoping he'll run into some Teens who're here illicitly.

You won't have a ban on child avatars, you'll have all avatars with baked on underwear.

Sometimes it helps to say it out loud. They're going to bring in children but they won't let them use child avatars. Try to be objective and tell me you seriously think that makes sense.

seriously...this is a NON issue...im still waiting for concrete evidence of any misdeeds and i receive none. and i dont mean hearsay that someone SAID they were a certain age etc. if i did receive ANY real evidence of this...id be one of the first ones to be in contact with LL to see how i could help stop these acts and what the other folks in sl could do also.

what concerns me much more is somene like lias or anyone masquerading as an authority on in world pedophiles and as an authority on adults who play child avatars and their motivations. and then said authority distributing misleading and anecdotal information with the sole purpose to incite the masses.

the real solution here is for LL to enforce their existing policies on age and sexual situations and to also punish those who try to malign others just as harshly. without stiff penalties for those who try to catch or falsely create situations to support their arguments against child avatars, this kind of silly talk will just continue and innocent people of all aged avatars will be abused just for sport. that is just wrong....

The youngest child allowed in Second Life is 13 - not 8 years old with pigtails speaking like a half illiterate creep. Immy sports a perfectly acceptable teen avatar.

They will bring in teens and offer a teen avatar selection for them. Do you really think LL is going to offer a starting avatar of a 8 year old girl holding a teddie bear?

Financially, I do not think they have a choice. The teen grid is not a money maker. A separate Adult Grid is definitely a big money maker (sex sells) Which is more profitable to put the extra team on?

ohhh i just had an idea! i think ill put on a child av and hang out in zindra and see if i get hit on....id LOVE to see some real evidence of any of these supposed actions and since i cant get even ONE person to provide me with any...i guess ill have to do the research myself...ill keep you posted on my adventures.

If they can't make a profit on the Teen Grid, then either deal with it and subsidize it with Main Grid profits or pull the plug and use the servers to expand Zindra.

If the Teen Grid is a failure, you don't fix that by using it as a model for the Main Grid.

Also, after a discussion with some of my contacts today, this is how it is intended to remain. Child avatars are allowed to be in mature and adult parcels. Child avatars are not allowed to be involved in sexual activities on *any* parcels. RL children are still not allowed on this grid. It remains the requirement of landowners and others to monitor, and for LL to react to Abuse Reports accordingly.

When I say pull the plug on the Teen Grid, I do not mean merge it with the Main Grid, I mean kill it. Turn it off and send the TSL'ers to WOW or Blue Mars.
