I think a couple of these are set incorrectly. There are some pieces there that are set to sell their contents for L$0 (like everything else) but don't contain anything.

I just popped over to the marketplace, and there are new textures available including the textures for the houses. ![]() What is the SLURL for the Marketplace? I was wandering around Nautulus last night, and didn't find anything resembling a place that might have those freebies. What I did see... A few interesting statues in the water. A pier that used a LOT of sculpties just to save 2 prims per pillar along the pier walls. At least two for sale signs that didn't fit the ambiance at all and with two signs on the same parcel exceed the ad farm limits. One house right off that clearly wasn't even trying to match the ambiance, and was set up as a rental home by some speculator. Several houses that belonged to the same person - all empty... Several houses that were clearly being prepared as rental properties... I found a nice harbor area... I found a strange "Citadel" with sculptures and a HUGE glowing crystal, that I really think I wouldn't want to be anywhere close to it with my own home. Like living very close to a lighthouse that shines its beam into my bedroom. Most of the houses... meh... ceilings too low, and very sterile architecture. Reminded me of the cinderblock homes people build in the Bahamas. Yuk. It has a few interesting bits, but I wouldn't want to live there. Glad some of the rest of you like it. To each their own... _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

I didn't bid on Bay City, and I won't be bidding on Nautilus. Why not?
- These types of "pre made" builds fly in the face of "Your World, Your Imagination". It may be fun to "buy in" to the ready-made theme, but the philosophy of SL has always been, as I see it, for the users to create those visions, not the service provider. (Of course, maybe if they come up with a theme that really intrigues me, I might change my mind.) - The residents who buy DON'T all buy in to the theme. And so you get things like Marianne's Bay City neighbors. - The prices are too high. Far out of reason, considering that much of the mainland is for sale right now, at much lower prices...and not selling. - I think LL is trying to run estates out of business. I don't live on an estate at present, but I support that business model. I won't invest money in schemes that benefit LL at the expense of estate owners. Just my opinion. I wish all the people who have bought land in these new builds all the best, even if I don't choose to join them. _____________________

At least two for sale signs that didn't fit the ambiance at all and with two signs on the same parcel exceed the ad farm limits. I saw one, last night, with four rotating pillars, one at each corner. Either Full Bright (legal) or Glow (not legal according to the new policy). If I were forced to place a bet on this, I'd bet that the new policy will NOT be enforced until after all the parcels are auctioned off. |

- I think LL is trying to run estates out of business. I don't live on an estate at present, but I support that business model. I won't invest money in schemes that benefit LL at the expense of estate owners. I agree with most of your points, though I do see some fun in the prospect of trying to adapt to the theme in a creative way. But I have a price limit in mind, and if I can't get something for under that price, I won't buy there. On the 'run estates out of business'...I have doubts about that. The higher tier LL gets from an estate, coupled with the fact that estate headaches belong to the Owner and not to LL, lead me to think that they wouldn't want to discourage the estate business. (Though clearly they DO want to discourage the 'use a Void sim for your rental business' aspect of Estates.) My guess would be that they are doing the Themed sims for three main reasons: One: they represent a nice influx of cash into the company (as most people will buy Lindens with their own money in order to purchase parcels, rather than recycling Lindens they've earned [meaning Lindens already in the system]). Two: the Themed sims can be used by LL to promote SL in general. "Look what a gorgeous environment we can make!" and that sort of thing. (I have a theory with regard to this and the 'burka' freebie female garb, but this isn't the proper time to discuss it.) Three: the people who work at LL probably just want the very-considerable amount of fun to be had in designing and building a unified environment, and watching it become a success. |

I have first hand experience of LL enforcing the policies right now. In a non-thinking moment, I setup a rotating prim - it was returned a few hours later along with a warning by a friendly neighborhood Linden (btw...thanks LL for just issuing a warning)-2fast |

I just popped over to the marketplace, and there are new textures available including the textures for the houses. ![]() Just grabbed those myself, perfect for the "remixed" version of one of the homes I'm building ![]() Also, they fixed the permissions of some of the contents of the other items, so it's a good idea to check and re-buy if you need to. Still one texture marked no-modify, but all the other issues seem fixed. BTW, the house wall textures are tiles textures, so you can do four different lighting effects with the same texture. |

Thanks for the permissions and different lighting information Arcane! We also like your strategy on remixing the building designs. It gives us the ability to get something up and see what's working and what design concepts we want to use in the future. The concept of remixing the existing buildings - especially the textures - gets us started. |

Thanks Ee. I was able to find the Marketplace and got the stuff from there (textures, houses and clothes). Even if I don't want to live in Nautulus, a good builder can always learn a few new tricks by looking at what another builder has created.
Placing 4 lighting effect variations in one texture for a wall is an interesting idea. I'll have to look into that. I think I also saw mention of some sort of "temple" that had freebies? I found what looked like a temple at the center of the cylindrical plateau, but didn't see anything free or copyable. Also saw several areas that had aleady been completely cleared by speculators who have snatched parcels up and immediately placed "for sale" signs on them. Can't tell if those parcels had homes on them before, but now they are flat fields littered with at least 5 different speculator's signs... *sighs* _____________________

Based on what I am finding reworking one of the prefabs, you will likely learn you are a damn good builder. My partner and I yanked at least 20 prims out of my build, many with little or no cosmetic effect that wasn't worth the trade off for us. In fact, we found multiple completely untextured prims buried in the floors in a few locations. They may have served a purpose as the building was being planned somehow, but there is no need to leave them in the final build other than bloating the prim count. I like the houses, but my sense is that they were built rather quickly, with an eye to being set dressing more than finished residences. I'm happy to have the textures myself, so I can build something that matches the other themed exteriors, but that I can build from scratch...eventually. As for other freebies. On the East end of the island, there is a temple and the dolphins and statues at the base of the entrance (swordfish looking things) are marked free to copy. I don;t have a slurl at the moment, but the temple is on the eastern most point of the island, on the south side of the canal. _____________________

Each time I log into SL I see a message about Nautilus so when in SL I opened Search put this title in to get a teleport and got no responses that fit.
Does this mean I can't go there? If I can how do I get there? |

I agree..IMHO LL should not be competing with residents but making it easier for them to create the cool areas themselves. Oddly, I find myself resenting that staff have fun being creative on our dime after all the pull-the-rug-out-from-under-the-residents stuff LL has pulled. Quite far from the original concept...made by residents for residents. Totally agree! _____________________

I wish they'd include the containers as well, so you could toss a few amphorae around the place.

I knew I should have flown the Nautilus sims with camera rolling the day before the auction. I have no issue with an individual's creativity but with an archeology background it was great to see an old world theme uncluttered. |
