I'd kind of like to think the lag/handover problems are temporary..I remember having shocking problems when Bay City appeared first but that's settled down over the months..or is it I just havn't been over that way as much. I do sail over there 'a lot' and it's great!!

I have noticed quite a lot of the sims on this project are Open Space sims, certainly the water and several land sims. I guess we've all noticed that there are varying numbers of 1024m parcels in different sims...but is there any way of knowing which sims are Open Space? Is there a cut-off number of parcels, below which you can assume you're looking at an Open Space/ (I've read this entire thread and don't recall that info being given---if it has and I just missed it, my bad...) |

Well the easiest way is to right click on the land and click 'about land', then go to 'objects' and if the 'primitive usage limit' is 15000 then it's a Full Sim, if it's 3750 then it's an Open Space. LL do give guidelines as to how Open Space Sims should be used..I'm not totally sure the builders of Nautilus Island have read those guidelines..(can moles read ?) (hmmm..maybe I shouldn't have said that last bit..hehe) |

I found this place at Hamilcar 221, 109 where it seems you can rez stuff, bit like a sand box, only I don't think it is. Anyway people have been leaving stuff there for sale (they don't miss a trick do they) SO I thought why not go over there and leave stuff for FREE (buy for $L0).
I left a genuine Mag Light (as used by CSI and FBI types on the telly) designed and built by me..for free What are YOU going to leave...for free!!! Perre... ![]() |

I russled up three stone plant pots (I did think about leaving my latest beach house - sorry, not enough room) and put them next to your cool torch Perre.
I love the idea, Astrid |

Can't make up my mind whether to bid or not... Oh come one...you know you want to. I planned to wait longer, and see what prices did, but this morning I found a parcel that closed today and decided to just play around bidding on it.... As for the lag, I haven't noticed it so much in the regular sims, but I agree the openspaces aren't performing well at all. Before today, they were alright for me other than the region hand-offs most of the time, but I tried walking in a few today and it was like walking through jello. _____________________

Ah well...I didn't really want to go premium anyway. These prices are way too high for my blood.
BTW...how are the LL freebies from the marketplace? I picked them all up, but haven't rezzed anything yet. _____________________

Well, that didn't take long. lol... Of course, if I had won an auction, the first thing I would have done is rezz a steampunk dirigible, and landing pad...so I'm one to talk. ![]() _____________________

I picked them all up, but haven't rezzed anything yet. The freebies included the houses that were on display in the village, plus roadway, and harbor walls. Oh, and clothing, male and female. Full body robes. Add a hood and the female one would be a burka (if I could spell, I'd be happier). _____________________

BTW...how are the LL freebies from the marketplace? I picked them all up, but haven't rezzed anything yet. Some are pretty good. You get a mod/copy version of all of the houses you see in the citadel and down around the docks. Also, there are a TON of textures, many of which I thought were great. Unfortunately, you get the houses, and a bunch of textures they used in the overall build, but I didn't find the textures for the houses. Considering how much modding the houses really need (if you want to use one to try to stay with the theme) having the textures would be really handy. **edit - oops, Lexxi beat me to it. _____________________

I didn't think about the unsold regions. 4 sims paid for by tier broken out across 13.5 effective sims (assuming the 22 unsold regions are all openspaces) comes out to $57.78 per sim per month. If you account for the Linden owned prims in the sims that do get sold, it's even less than that. And, like you calculated, if any of the unsold sims are full sims, the numbers go down even further. Best case scenario would be that they're getting about $8-$11/month/1024m² (any combination of premium with up to 1536m² of used tier) which makes for $2048-$2816/month or $151-$208/sim/month so in the best of circumstances they still profit from the whole thing. The real number is probably somewhere in between. --- Another approach would be for them to convert a few full class 5 sims that are currently serving as full mainland water sims into batches of 4 openspaces in which case they just get the Nautilus sims for "free" (no rise in number of servers or operating costs). --- Nautilus itself likely is a loss if you only look at those few sims by themselves, but as an estate with 4,000+ sims and a few ten thousand "tenants" I doubt it makes the mainland as a whole operate at a loss. |

People keep leaving out the money they get from the land itself. Land could be held by people paying full tier on each parcel, or could be held in groups, made up of people only using their "free" tier - and no tier is being collected. Therefore it is hard to say, one way or another, how much a month LL makes for any particular sim or group of sims.
On the other hand, the land sold somewhere between 50K to 250K (that top one was 250k, right? if so that is around $910. I know it was at $455 before the auction closed (120K). _____________________

For all we know, they've already done that (anyone check any water sims for allowed prims, lately?) |

I just looked over the current Auction bids---8 hours or so after I last looked, they've predictably jumped quite a bit.
I may end up not even bidding---I can see the attractive features of having a place there, but.....yikes, the price. Still, it's encouraging to see that SL is still more than capable of inspiring people to lay out that kind of cash! ..oh, and in re the burka thing: yes of course I want to declare my respect for all cultures, even those that place such severe restrictions on one gender, because, even if cultures choose to lop of bits of the bodies of their children and such, it is their right! As cultures! (...) We now return to our regularly scheduled land rush. |

Those numbers aren't realistic though: LL only gets $195/mainland sim *if* every single 1024m² is owned by someone paying $195/month in mainland tier. $57.78 would be the "worst case" scenario. The tier itself is of little importance most SL users are renting paying tier to Island owners these users benifit LL in many ways other than the the Island owners $295/month, these users exchange real USD for for Lindens to purchase clothes and various other accessories. LL make money from each of these transactions, sure others cash out the Lindens back to Dollars over time but LL still make a healthy profit overall. Another approach would be for them to convert a few full class 5 sims that are currently serving as full mainland water sims into batches of 4 openspaces in which case they just get the Nautilus sims for "free" (no rise in number of servers or operating costs). --- Nautilus itself likely is a loss if you only look at those few sims by themselves, but as an estate with 4,000+ sims and a few ten thousand "tenants" I doubt it makes the mainland as a whole operate at a loss. I would expect that all Linden protected sims within the new Nautilus Island including some of the land outcrops are openspaces, and will be carefully placed by LL to ensure of each 4 sims only one has much interesting content placed on it, to keep issues of high traffic lag on open spaces at a minimum, these would instantly increase the profitability of the area. Remember open spaces don't have to be void of content and can now hold over 3000prims plenty to provide some very interesting landscaping. Expect much more land of this type from now on, seeing its clear popularity. |

Still, it's encouraging to see that SL is still more than capable of inspiring people to lay out that kind of cash! Awww...don't give up just yet. I just flew around the island, and saw a lot of yellow parcels coming up for sale. Sure, some of them are asking laughable prices (L$199,000!) but I found a few that were offering them for sale at just over their auction price. One specifically said that he was doing it because he won more parcels at auction then he planned. Of course, even the auction prices are high, but there is still a LOT of land out there yet to hit the auction list. Also, I don't think there are *that* many bidders. In the sim I bought in yesterday, I saw a cluster of 4 parcels together for which one person was able to win all four auctions. As for the parcel I bought, it felt like I was bidding against one, maybe two other people, but they stopped bidding in the last 5 or 10 minutes of the auction. I paid more than I would have for a typical piece of mainland, sure, but the parcel has buffer space on 3 sides, one of which is an unobstructed view to the west overlooking an openspace of rolling park and water. It's difficult to do a price comparison between a parcel like that and other most other mainland. Of course, I am a geek for this stuff. Ultimately, that is what makes it worth it for me....it's fun._____________________

At least in Yamm and Shalim (the Harbor district) it seems to be the same 3-4 at most in many - but not all - of the auctions. We'll know more after the latest round is posted so we see who owns the parcels. Three parcels in Yamm popped at L$195k, 192k, and 120k in this morning's first round. The lowest price in Shalim/Yamm in today's first round was L$60k in Shalim. The lowest price in Nautilus for today's first round was L$48k. The lowest price in yesterday's second and third rounds was L$45k, one in Eshmun and one in Yamm. There were 15 in the L$40's and 50's in yesterday's second and third rounds across all of Nautilus. One parcel in Yamm went on the market today and was bought in a very short amount of time. |

Yamm is a really well situated sim, and seems to be developing well already, so I'm not surprised that the auctions there are on the high end. Seems like Yamm was on the high end in the first day's auctions too. (I'm in Shalim, btw. )_____________________
