Jesus actually likes Mexican, like me. He had asado. I went for the chicken enchiladas en mole.

Mmmm. :)

Edit: As the first hippie, Jesus also brought along some interesting things for after. It was a fun evening. :D

Jesus was my waiter last time I ate mexican. Tipped him 5 bucks for a 15 buck meal.

Wow, this is a long thread and I couldn't read it all.

Anyway, anyone see the documentary by Richard Dawkins, The Root of All Evil? He is my hero. Here are the first few parts:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AB2vmj8eyMk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGeL1yFeK6I
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76UDVB-ofpI

Atheists basically think all christians, muslims and others are silly and illogical. I could also believe in fairies, unicorns and other nonsense but i choose not to. Christians persecute and fight non-believers, it's not the other way around. Yes I make them angry by pointing out how illogical they are. Unlike them, I never suggest I want to force anyone to do anything, whereas atheists can't even run for public office in some states.

If you want to have fun at the expense of a Christian, Jew, etc. I suggest the following:

1. Explain your belief that Jesus was a good carpenter so he must have been a great magician. Suggest that David Copperfield was a better magician by comparing his magic tricks to Jesus.

2. Point out that scientists overwhelmingly reject god, and argue it's probably because they are more civilized than the average person. I usually provide the link: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v394/n6691/full/394313a0_fs.html

3. Show them the movie I linked above. Their reaction is usually tons of fun.

Unfortunately, Mark also seems to be exemplifying why Christians think they have argument in the first place, by referencing fairies (which appear in Pagan religions) as nonsense and by stating that all atheists think that all theists are illogical.

Many reasonable atheists (indeed, people in general) believe that a process of logic is how many people find their religious belief, though they do not prescribe to that belief themselves.

The above is not one of these people. Immediately out of the gate, he lashed out with insults and suggestions on how to make other people feel bad about themselves. I hope most of you guys don't take this as a prime example of an atheist: if Atheists could have idiot fundamentalists, the above attitude would be the one those fundamentalists have.

As for the arguments:

1. The first part made no sense, the second did a bit but death and rebirth are kind of hard to beat.

2. Christians in particular think of science as being a tool of Satan. not sure why you think they'd give a fuck about scientists. Even another atheist will go further to say that a scientist's bubble is science, not religion. And considering scientists developed nuclear weapons, the "civilized" argument won't last long.

3. Riiiight.

You were doing good until you said this. I don't mean to be disagreeable, but every Christian I know of thinks science is a tool of God. They may believe many scientists have been indoctrinated in anti-religious universities, but the actual study of nature isn't evil at all.

Allow me to clarify. First, I live in East TN....Baptists Baptists everywhere, but not a soul's been saved. You'd be greatly disturbed to find out how many people still say the word "science" the way one might say "whore" in a church. Second, I didn't mean all Christians, but I did mean that out of those who think in that silly, backward way, more of them are Christian than of most other faiths.

As for the arguments:

I'm sorry I wasn't really presenting a scientific argument with that. If you want a logical argument you could look at the documentary I linked.

Also didn't mean to generalize what "all atheists" believe, I was just referring to my personal beliefs as many Christians will say "Christians believe X." My point in the last post was that I don't think "making fun" is "persecuting" Christians. I'm not saying that religious people shouldn't have the same rights, as Muslims, Jews, and others say about gays or other groups that are 'not them.' That's persecution, what I'm doing is poking fun. Big difference.

Do you have any statistics? I just wonder, because it sounds like a stereotype I have seen in the media many times. Did you hear how I said "media"? ;)

No need. Stereotypes, on the sociological level, have their roots in truth. I see a lot of Christians despising science illogically, a lot of my fellow Pagans writing bad poetry on napkins while smoking clove cigarettes that are as black as their clothes, a lot of Asian-Americans driving with their blinker on at 5mph, a lot of black people eating fried chicken 5 days a week, a lot of white people who get nervous when a black man is behind them in line at the ATM, a lot of Latinos who pile into white shuttlebuses to go to Taco Bell at 11pm and WalMart at 2am, a lot of alcoholic Native Americans, college students eating ramen and having lots of sex, and a bunch of other stereotypes exemplifying themselves daily.

You can hate on the media all you want for it, but the reason it makes the media is because it's there to be recorded.

Nothing. That's essentially their stereotype :P. Lack of direction.

Good point, I didn't specify the difference between slander and poking fun. There is hate speech against gays, which leads to physical attacks against gays. I'm obviously against hate speech against a particular religion or a particular group. On the other hand, our media often finds it acceptable to poke fun at gays (no pun intended).

See, that bad attempt at a joke (the 'no pun intended' part) is an example. That's ok, but it's immoral for hate speech to discrimate against a group of people. I'm not promoting discrimination against any group of people, and often feel I have to defend myself for being atheist because I could be discriminated against.

In short, yes it is ok to joke about any group of people as long as it is not hateful. My posts are not hateful.

So when I'm thinking of the stereotypical atheist I should be seeing a guy scuffing his feet in the dust, going around in circles? Your words here :)

That's where it comes to a matter of opinion. Which is subjective. Think of a boring harassment video in teh workplace. Anything CAN be hate speech; it doesn't matter who says it, it matters who hears it. I was offended that you dismissed faeries as being nonsense, very deeply so in fact. Some Pagans revere them as Gods and demi-Gods. You didn't mean it offensively toward people of my faith, but it was, nonetheless.

Carlos Mencia, a comedian, says what he says because only people who are OK with what he has to say will watch his show. He knows his audience is, for the most part, "safe". Here, you don't know that your audience is safe. I can guarantee that Mencia wouldn't pop off with a joke about nuns in the midst of a Catholic mass.

I'm Pagan. The last time I spoke that literally I was 6. :P

A lack of sociopsychological and moral direction. Better?

Hehe I wish he had that confidence....

But watch his act off his show. He reams Bush on his show all day to Comedy Central fans, but in a mixed audience, he's all Pro-America and "Let's bomb the fuckers".

My son has the DVD set from Season One. I think he's hilarious, especially the Deedeedee Awards :D

It seems like you are careful not to be offensive than you were with your other stereotypes. Why is that I wonder?

Perhaps because every single one of us was born an atheist.

I wasn't careful, but a lack of belief tends to mean people lack the reason to behave like fucktards. Plus they still do all the race and age related nonsense.

im going to try and sound as non aggressive as possible and say its not athiests who attack Christians, and Christians who attack athiests, its people who dont considerer beliefs and do things to people just because they can. I'm not saying people of a belief dont attack other beliefs, im saying that people who happen to be of a particular faith find things to nit-pick on other people for, making it not ONLY religion, but people being jerks in the first place.
