Atheists who attack Christianity

This thread is to discuss, rationally, the reasoning behind the atheistic attacks on Christianity. What are the underlying reasons for these attacks.

It's my humble opinion these attacks are used as a way make one feel important or shore up ones own belief system.

I feel the same about any belief system that seeks to build up its own credibility by attacking other's beliefs.

If these attacks made the attacker feel better about his/her belief system, I support their continued use. However, I don't believe anything positive can be gained by downgrading other's beliefs.

That's why I don't waste my time bashing other belief systems.

Discuss....

Edit: This thread concerns threads that were running at the time I posted this thread. It does not concern Atheists in general. At the time of this edit there was no atheistic attacks in any threads that I noticed.

Now that was a well thought out, reasoned response. ;)

The entire premise of your statement is an attack on atheism, Kevn. A better question might be "why do Christians have such a hard time accepting that they live in a country that was designed from the start to have a purely secular system of government?" or "Why are Christians so hell-bent on ignoring the Constitution for the purpose of cramming their belief system and its symbols down everyone's throat with complete disregard for the law and with such little respect for anyone of differing belief?"

Even if I find that cartoon pointless because it oversimplifies a complex debate, Kendra, I've always thought that the curious, perplexed expression on the religious guys' face throughout the first three panals is hillarious.

You're being too generous. Ask Kevn how he defines "attack" and I imagine his definition would include anyone who fights back against violations of the constitution by Christians (the pledge, the national motto, religious symbols paid for by federal and state taxes, creationism in public schools, etc etc etc.).

It's not atheists who have claimed that Christians aren't "real patriots". No, that was a former President talking about atheists.

It's not atheists who demonize all Christians as a threat to the American Way of Life. That would be some Christians speaking of atheists.

It's not atheists who want to make the US Government "Bible based" -- we only want ALL religious beliefs (and non-beliefs) protected by excluding any one religion from our government. The day you take away my right to not believe is the day your own right to believe is also in danger.

Seven states actually prohibit atheists from holding public office. Who's attacking whom?

Christians love to portray themselves as "persecuted" in this country, despite the fact that they are in the majority and hold vast power by virtue of the people they've elected to office. It's self-pitying nonsense and narcissistic grandiosity.

This thread is to discuss, rationally, the reasoning behind the fundamentalist attacks on anything they don't agree with and how this makes certain dolts feel like they are being victimized for spouting intolerance and dogma. What are the underlying reasons for these attacks and associated feeling of self-persecution?

Which atheistic attack are you speaking of? The ones where they go into gay neighborhoods and beat up people? The attacks where they bomb abortion clinics? The ones where they strap explosives to themselves and blow up buses? Fly planes into buildings? What sort of atheistic attacks are you talking about?

This thread is to discuss, rationally, the reasoning behind why Kevn beats his wife. What are the underlying reasons for these attacks?

It's my humble opinion these attacks are used as a way make one feel important or shore up ones own sense of male superiority.

I feel the same about any man that seeks to build up his own ego by attacking others.

Even if these attacks made the attacker feel better about himself, I cannot support their continued use.

I'm not offended by their attacks on Christian religions. I expect it. It was all predicted. If this is a cross, it's not painful at all. ;)

The idea is to try to define what exactly is gained by these attacks, and who is benefiting. At the same time I would hope it would open a few eyes as to how silly it is to attack Christianity or any other faith or non-religion faith.

I am not on the cross, I think some atheists think they are on the cross.

Those aren't Christians. Those are idiots with an axe to grind that use their religion as their excuse to be bigoted maroons.

Kinda like Pat Robertson?

Pat Robertson is one of those morons.

The problem is that for every thousand people who get up, go to work, take care of their families, and generally just living their lives as good people, you have this one activist headcase who thinks its his personal mission to "cleanse the world".

I think that bombing abortion clinics, throwing gas grenades in to pride parades, and beating up gays is abhorrent, and is NOT what my religion stands for. Those people are no more part of MY faith than if I went out, slit someone's throat, and then said "Kendra made me do it."

You're doing a serious disservice to every single true person of faith when you start in to the "some people did bad things, so they're all like that" speech.

I haven't seen a lot of atheists attacking Christianity. Can you point out whoever you have in mind, specifically?

I would be a good example. However, much of my 'attack' could be boiled down to me calling the lot of them idiots. I've only thus far been more convinced about my original assertion, however I can see that they might perceive it as an attack given their idiot status.
