Kevin, according to the child psych classes I took in college, humans are born with only the basic instincts. Nursing, breathing and the like. Infants don't even develop depth perception until the 6th-8th month of life. I hope you study up on child psych before you have kids, if you want them.

Yes, and the way they tested these theories is they asked the babies. ;)

edit: I saw a 4 month old baby reaching for an object, which required depth perception. Study it all again.

there was a rather interesting study done, where the babies were placed on a raised platform and they would crawl to thier mother. The end of the platform closest to the mother was made of lexan and they charted when the baby stopped crawling onto the lexan. Now if I can only remember who ran the study, I think it was Stanford.

****EDIT: Stanford was where the Zimbardo Prison experiment was, not the baby study.

Reaching for an object does not require understanding of depth perception. Until around month 8, it's more like the baby's hand being a mouse pointer on a computer screen. My son made the connections as to what is "too far" and "really close" around that age.

And there's also the reality - which Kevn seems to be ignorant of - that several people can /through reason/ work with a set of facts and come to the same or similar conclusions.... Apparently, to Kevn, since we're all capable of working to a valid conclusion from first principles, we're all the same person.

Kendra is the sweet-natured short-stated artist.

It's not a habit, its a practiced art. The trick, when faced with a compelling argument, is to find some detail within the argument and start a niggling argument about definitions that goes on for long enough that the compelling argument gets buried.
