Have I suggested you are attacking Christianity by disagreeing with me? I thought we had some pretty good disagreements.

I tried to tell my boyfriend about this thread. He stopped me after about 5 minutes and had to take aleve and lay down.

They weren't "rude and mean-spirited". They are matter-of-fact, which it is telling that you view facing reality as "rude and mean-spirited".

Having read the first page of this thread (the subject line was too intriguing to ignore, I admit), I'm not sure what this thread realistically hoped to do, nor am I sure why people responded with so much vitriol.

Everything seemed so far over the top on both sides.

But I guess everyone needs a LITTLE drama during a boring afternoon at work.

Oh, I get it - for Kevn, confronting his dysfunctional belief in a three-thousand year old demonstrably false myth is "rude and mean-spirited".

Logic includes the criteria of the burden of proof, which is that the one making the extraordinary claim bears the burden of proof. You assert that your deity exists as a non-fictional, independent-of-men's-imaginings entity. This is an extraordinary claim. Burden of proof is on you. That's matter-of-fact, and neither I nor anyone else is responsible for the way you /feel/ about having been confronted with that /fact/.

You assert that atheists "attack christianity". That is an extraordinary claim /to me/, but - I've never seen you once refer to any actual instance of an Atheist "attacking christianity". Here's something helpful: Find an instance of an atheist making a law that singles out Christianity (and only Christianity). I /know/ of an atheist who, running a private business refuses to hire Christians, period, flat out - that's the /closest/ I've ever /seen/ to an atheist "attacking christianity" - granted, he has job requirements that necessitate clear thinking regarding epistemiology.

I provided reference to and described many examples of Christians, and various sects of Christianity, and can even go to Christianity itself (the Bible! hello!) attacking atheists - All of which you're going to deny by saying "That's not what I believe", which is the inverse application of the "no true scotsman" fallacy.

It is somehow rude to fail to coddle someone who insists on mischaracterising my knowledge/beliefs/lack thereof in public?

Is it somehow rude to fail to coddle someone who is a living part of a legacy that insists - in a widespread fashion - on denying me my natural rights as a human (which are meant to be protected by my government but have been and are being denied by the followers of that movement who hold office?)?

Is it rude to fail to coddle someone's attempt to claim that some portion of human knowledge that he disagrees with is a "faith" in a weak attempt to have it barred from being taught in public schools - as an integrated part of an effort to require public schools to teach his religion as fact?

I didn't create the categories, I just describe the people as I see them, when I know them well enough.

And /anyone/ who carries on a ridiculous campaign of passive-aggressive history/reality denial - well, they get corrected publicly, and adamantly. He is only what he allows himself to be.
