From: Chip Midnight Not that it's a commandment, but it also goes against the “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.” bit. Right, and I love how right wing capitalists always forget that Jesus threw the money handlers out of the temple. Jesus was a revolutionary and a liberal. =)

From: Kevn Klein There is Billy suggesting Christians are trying to IMPOSE their faith. Too funny. Actually... it's not funny at all. For many christians I have encountered... it's true.

From: Kevn Klein Jesus was very clear, He said if they reject the "Good News" wipe the dust from your feet and move on to another town. Oh, but Jesus INSISTS that you spread the good news.... Which is why you ignored me pointing out that you should have stopped preaching it a week ago.

Define "Irony" -
Kevn Klein, who earlier in this thread was stating that ID should be taught in schools as science, and who was complaining about the 'rampant' 'presence' of the 'humanist' 'faith', and who referenced a Discovery Institute document as authoritative -
challenging people to come up with a single instance of a Christian pushing their religious belief on others.
Or is that not ironic, because that is the kind of thing one actually would expect of Kevn?

......... Please show me where in this thread I said "that ID should be taught in schools as science". I know you can't, but it's fun pointing it out. Keep on tell everyone what others "said" or at least what you think they said in your own mind. Never quote the person, because that would ruin your biased reports. The fact you mistake what was really said so many times is proof you don't read the posts. You skim a few lines and then set in your mind the stereotype you have been indoctrinated to believe. This is the bigotry I was talking about before. You generalize and group all Christians into a category so you can feel better about yourself when you attack others.

Or is that not ironic, because that is the kind of thing one actually would expect of Kevn? Well, someone who's preaching the good news to a group of people who've rejected it (and more than once, by the way) is most certainly pushing their religious belief on others... So, Kevn... an example of a Christian trying to push their belief on others... is you.

Which is why you ignored me pointing out that you should have stopped preaching it a week ago. Spreading isn't forcing. Spread means To cause to become widely seen or known; scatter or disseminate: spread the news; spread the beam of the flashlight. Forced means To inflict or impose relentlessly: He forced his ideas upon the group. See the difference? Jesus said to bring them the "Good News", and if they reject it wipe the dust from your feet and leave them.

Jesus said to bring them the "Good News", and if they reject it wipe the dust from your feet and leave them. Repeatedly pushing your beliefs at someone IS imposing them... don't ever make the mistake of thinking otherwise. Thinking otherwise means YOU have no right to complain about Atheists "attacking" your belief, since they are just spreading the news... (in other words, you're a freaking hypocrite) From: someone Who dragged you to this thread? The same person who dragged you into answering it... If you don't like me pointing out your own hypocrisy, then don't throw it out there for all to see... From: someone And how was I pushing my beliefs on you? Please be specific. Excuse me? In a public forum where you insisted on "spreading" your beliefs at people who have either rejected them for their own faith or rejected them for a lack of belief, EVEN WHEN THEY POLITELY ASK YOU TO STOP, is pushing your own beliefs on others. (you complain about people doing that, yet do it yourself... Hypocrite) Interestingly enough, since Atheists are only "spreading the news", they can't be attacking Christianity... but if they ARE attacking Christianity by spreading the news then Christianity is ATTACKING EVERYONE WHO DOESN'T BELIEVE IN IT! Which way do you want to go with this? :edit: bringing the news once is fine... we listened to it, we rejected it, sod off... but bringing it over and over and over and over, refusing to accept the rejection... that's not just pushing it, not just trying hard to impose it, but it's also very much against the teachings of Jesus. How can you be a Christian if you go against any of his teachings? Answers on a postcard please...

See the difference? Oh, and by the way... "Forced means To inflict or impose relentlessly" To inflict... you've been inflicting your beliefs on us relentlessly... repeatedly... against our will... Did you really mean to give us the means to shoot you down in flames that easily? :edit: and before you try it... Inflict: To deal or mete out (something punishing or burdensome); impose Hey... you've been imposing your beliefs on us...

I don't preach to people who have rejected it. I don't preach in forums. Your assumptions are from your well grounded indoctrination, not from any preaching you have seen from me.

From: Kevn Klein Tiger, you keep accusing me of something for which I'm not guilty. I don't preach to people who have rejected it. I don't preach in forums. Your assumptions are from your well grounded indoctrination, not from any preaching you have seen from me. Hmm? By the way, any time you try to prove your belief is right, is preaching your beliefs... (possibly a broad definition, but one that is fitting... expecially when you think that open-crowd preaching is nothing more than trying to prove to people that your belief is right...) From: someone John 2:14-16 (King James Version) King James Version (KJV) Public Domain
14And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:
15And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;
16And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house an house of merchandise. From: someone He was a real historical person. He was a teacher. He was a worker of wonders (miracles). He gathered a band of followers, who continued to follow him after his death. He had a brother called James. James was executed by the Jewish leaders in CE 62. There were claims that Jesus was the Messiah (that is, the Christ). From: someone Christians follow the teachings of Christ which appear in the New Testament. Jesus brought a new covenant that changed some things. For example, the 10 Commandments were reduced to 2 commandments. Jesus also said not to harm your enemy, but do good to him. From: someone John 19:30 (King James Version) King James Version (KJV) Public Domain
30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
36Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. and what have we... when I pointed out that Jesus said we had to obey ALL the law, not just those two (which was your claim, btw) I got... From: someone The disciples said ....
36Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Jesus said...
37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. standard "ignore the question/point and preach the bible some more" response... (and you wonder why some people get a little annoyed...) anyway, onwards and more "spreading the word of your faith" aka preaching... From: someone As Jesus said many times, 'according to your faith, be it done unto you'. From: someone One either accepts salvation through Christ or not Should I bother carrying on? I mean, I can't be arsed going back through your entire posting history, so these are all from this thread only... Every one of those, including a couple which were direct posts to me, were spreading your beliefs to those who had rejected them... and in my case, rejected them after many many years following them. I spent a long time preaching in the exact same way you are... setting up a "debate" with Christianity a major part of the subject, with it resulting in me "imparting my wisdom of the Lords Word" to the poor deluded angry non-believers. I've used those tactics and it's nothing more than preaching... The only "indoctrination" I have, is the remains of the indoctrination I was subjected to for way too long... also known as a Christian upbringing. You don't like that? You want to accuse me of being indoctrinated against Christianity? Maybe you would want to learn about me before generalising... something a lot of people have been accusing each other of doing. Btw, indoctrinate? # To instruct in a body of doctrine or principles. # To imbue with a partisan or ideological point of view. Yes, I was indoctrinated, as is just about everyone who has a religious belief... So there you go... you've been preaching in this thread, generalising without knowledge and accusing me of something I don't have that you appear to have yourself... That would be one fallacy, one broken commandment and one count of making a nasty error of judgement. (which makes it another count of going against the word of Jesus) Have a nice afterlife... and remember... My God carries a hammer, your God died nailed to a cross... any questions?

......? Every one of those examples were in response to questions, and most are qoutes, not my words. They are all out of any kind of context. In a forum it's customary to respond to questions. It's also customary to argue ones point of view. If you tell me the Bible says one thing and I know better, it's not preaching to set you straight. It's informing you. If you don't like to be told you are wrong about a topic, and you don't want to hear what is the truth about the Christian faith, don't ask, don't come to a thread that by its very existence concerns Christianity. I started this thread to point out the very bigotry you are displaying. Suggesting a Christian can't hold opinions based on their faith because it might be misconstrued as preaching is unacceptable. I say get over it. I will have my opinion with or without your blessing. If by arguing my point of view I am proselytizing, then by arguing an atheistic point of view you would be proselytizing. The problem is you joined the thread late, and I'm sure you only read a few pages. Otherwise you would know, I never preach in a forum setting. Good night

From: Kevn Klein Every one of those examples were in response to questions, and most are qoutes, not my words. They are all out of any kind of context. All straight from your posts hon... and all in answer to people's points. (two of them mine, by the way... way back around page 30...) You throw Bible verses out as answers, you're preaching... you don't like it, tough. From: someone In a forum it's customary to respond to questions. It's also customary to argue ones point of view. If you tell me the Bible says one thing and I know better, it's not preaching to set you straight. It's informing you.
I gently informed you that what you claimed were the "rules" to live by according to Jesus were in fact wrong and you were also provided with the relevent verses... your answer? To throw out the EXACT SAME VERSES that you had just been shown you were wrongly interpreting... That's not informing... that's preaching. From: someone If you don't like to be told you are wrong about a topic, and you don't want to hear what is the truth about the Christian faith, don't ask, don't come to a thread that by its very existence concerns Christianity. Oh, but I *do* want to hear what is the truth about the Christian faith... but I can't seem to find anyone who can tell me it. Is it the truth of the Trinity? Some denominations believe the Trinity is false... Is it the truth about the Physical resurrection of Jesus? Some denominations believe that false... The truth of Free Will? Calvinism believes that false... The truth of Predestination? I know that Methodists hold that one false... The truth of Eternal Torment for unbelievers? Again, some hold that false... The truth of salvation for all? Guess what? Some hold that false... Maybe the truth that once you leave, you can't come back? Baptists proclaim that false... Maybe the truth of once saved, always saved? You guessed it... some hold that false too... No matter what you take from the Bible, no matter what you take from Christianity as "truth", there will be some sect, somewhere, that disagrees with you... and THAT'S the truth about the Christian faith. But, you seem to think I don't want to hear it... bad assumption, but you're making a lot where I'm concerned. Thing is, by stating that this thread will allow me to hear the Truth about Christian faith, that means that someone here HAS that truth and is willing to share it. Do you have it? Does any Christian have it? Nope... no-one has it, because none of you are able to agree on what it's all about. Oh, you'll state the basics in general terms... something like Jesus being the son of God, (which, by the way, some sects do not believe... some believe that Jesus was God in human form, not the son of God) but when it comes to the details, you start disagreeing with each other. You can deny it all you want, but the existence of roughly 30K different Christian sects says otherwise. (and the infighting between those sects... try not to get me started on that) From: someone I started this thread to point out the very bigotry you are displaying. What bigotry? It's all very well saying I'm bigoted, but where have I been bigoted? Am I attacking you because you are a Christian? Nope... Am I attacking you? Nope... All I'm doing is clearing up just a couple of little mis-conceptions you have. (one of which seems to be that if a self-avowed ex-christian disagrees with you, then they must be bigoted, indoctrinated, just plain wrong... not the best of ways to look at it) However, if you don't like being told you're wrong about a topic, why not leave, instead of trying to "poison the well" or even attack someone's character? From: someone Suggesting a Christian can't hold opinions based on their faith because it might be misconstrued as preaching is unacceptable. Never said that... I said that throwing out bible verses as your answer, rather than telling us WHY you have that opinion leading to a certain answer is preaching. It's the same thing a Pastor does when faced with a difficult question... From: someone I say get over it. I will have my opinion with or without your blessing. Get over what? Get over how you seem to have a set of Bible verses as your opinion? That is what you are showing when your opinion/answer is nothing more than a set of Bible verses... If I wanted to read Bible verses, I'd read my Bibles... (yes, I still have them... it helps to remind me of the myriad problems in them) but I'd much rather read peoples opinions. From: someone If by arguing my point of view I am proselytizing, then by arguing an atheistic point of view you would be proselytizing. Actually, yes... in a way you'd be right. On the other hand, since it's damned hard to argue for something when you're simply pointing out the errors someones made in their argument, I'd have to say that, in this case, it isn't. (the fact I'm not an Atheist seems pretty important to bring to your attention at this point...) From: someone The problem is you joined the thread late, and I'm sure you only read a few pages. You think so? May I draw your attention the the posts I made on the 17th? May I point out that I've been reading this thread since it was started? would it be at all possible to let you know that I read all 71 pages before I replied about you and your attempt to change the meaning of the word "impose"? Do I need to point out that your assumptions about me are, once more, in error? From: someone Otherwise you would know, I never preach in a forum setting. See above, and see how I've just shown you to be very wrong... From: someone Good night I hope you sleep soundly, knowing just how badly mistaken you've just been... Do take care, and I'll see you in Valhalla.

I think the thread answers your post, but I thought this snippet is special, I need to point out one thing I think you don't understand. When YOU use the Bible to make an argument in a debate, it IS customary for your opponents to use the Bible as a reference to argue against your point. If you don't want people to use the Bible when debating you, don't use the Bible to make YOUR point.

My religion is a denomination of christianity (not telling which), but I dont believe in the bible. Most people dont get how I can believe in god and jesus but not "the good book" this is my answer. The bible is a book full of fables and examples of how to live Adam and eve didnt exist but it was a nice story (until they got kicked out of heaven by a god who is meant to be forgiving). Now for another thing I hate about some christians, the ones that never go to church but as soon as songs of praise turns up in their area, they pack it to the rafters - hypochritical or what?? I have no problems with people who practice their religion their own way, just dont tell me how I should practice mine. I go to church once a week, I dont read the bible or follow it, I pray and I try to be a good person, I dont thing god could as more of a person.

If you don't want people to use the Bible when debating you, don't use the Bible to make YOUR point. I wouldn't, if people didn't bring the damned thing up first... That is one thing you have missed, and badly missed... YOU quoted the damned book to prove YOUR point, and now you're getting pissy because I used it and proved you wrong? You think I don't want people to use the Bible? Screw that... I want EVERYONE to read it and use it so they can learn just how useless it is in any kind of debate. And I'm still waiting for this "Truth about the Christian Faith"... You seem arrogant enough to insist that what YOU believe is the Truth... while I'm content to point out just how error-ridden that belief is. (based, as it is, on your interpretation of the mis-translated, 3rd hand copies of heresay and your need to "cherry-pick" said interpretation) Oh, and one final thing... I've never once attacked Christianity. I do, however, attack the varied, bigoted, arrogant, closed-minded "Christians" who manage to re-write their own holy book in their attempts to justify their own bias. I attack what they do... not the religion they claim to believe in. Maybe you should look at your assumptions about me... again.

From: Chip Midnight I'm guessing you didn't go to Red Lobster Jesus actually likes Mexican, like me. He had asado. I went for the chicken enchiladas en mole. Mmmm. Edit: As the first hippie, Jesus also brought along some interesting things for after. It was a fun evening.
