From: Maggie McArdle and all a person has to do is a camera pan and click on any sit ball in your home to gain entry. we have the doors yes, but with the added security, by the time they do manage to rezz/campan/ and click on the sit ball, they are already wherever thier home setting is.
I know this. But they have to go through rather some trouble to get so far. And I want an open home. I like people to drop by... as long they respect my privacy. To have a bit more controle though I have places a small device that logs anyone entering my home. If I don't trust someone, I will IM the person. Depending on the reaction (or no reaction) I will decide what to do... Just a thought... would it not be nice if sitballs and alike not only could be hidden and made visible again by the owner or when given the rights by the owner to do so? Normally I have the sit balls hidden in my house. Morwen.

I love mentoring on help island and other newbie spawn points, dont get the time to do it as often as I would like, but its very rewarding.
I have a folder full of stuff just for newbies, everything from AV's to clothes to toys to funiture, and yes, I have given newbies a little cash from time to time (how can you show them how to upload a profile photo when they have L$0)
Most geniune newbies are very nice people, the rude griefer types are usually young (sometimes a little to young, but without a confession there isnt anything you can do).
The rudest people are almost always those who have been around the block a dozen times already, they simply dont have the patience to answer a simple question anymore, but when they hang out in newbie areas you get the impression they like being grumpy.
Although, I do have to say that for the most part, rudeness isnt something I come across that often on SL.

. Thats why I would go there as well, but with all the Rude people thats been on here for a while talking hatefull and trash to these newbies are just asking questions. why hang out in a welcome area if you do not want to be bothered by questions?

I sell an inexpensive pose ball switch that will show/hide all of your poseballs with one touch of the switch. Place the switch in a descrete location in your house and you can easily show/hide all of your poseballs at once. Its really nice even while using the poseballs to hide the clutter of those you are not using. The poseball switch also comes with a script that you can put in any other modifialble objects/furniture that you want to show/hide.

Morwen. oh we have them hidden but, sometimes that dont work either. dont get us wrong we are very friendly, fun and even insane at times, and we love to welcome others into our home, but as this is the only time we can be together(my partner and i) due to time differences and work etc; we consider it our sanctuary where we can be alone and talk and bounce ideas off each other. we dont have sex ALL the time now

Last night i was sitting on my Deck, Chatting with two of my Housemates (All female) when a new Person Popped in. My Fiance' noticed him before i did, and greeted him pleasantly. He was exploring, and saw a Few people, and wanted to see what was going on, if anything. We Chatted Pleasantly for about Ten minutes (Mostly discussing RL realestate for some reason) Then my Fiance explained to him that our time was short that evening, and we wished to have a Little private time together before we all Logged. He thanked us, and Moved on. Yet another example of how being Polite to Drop in's is a workable approach for heading Off Rudeness.

I agree Angel. As said, normally my frontdoor is open to everyone. So yesterday I was in my house, as the young (new player) lady comes walks in. She was kind and friendly. She had a lot of questions and was obviously very confused by all the new things of SL (how understandable ^^). I answered her questions as good as I could. We chatted a bit more and she made some nice compliments about the decoration of my house (... THE way to flatter me^^). After some time I told her I had to leave SL for some RL matters. She opologized for taking so much of my time (which was not needed, I was there on my free will) and left... after asking my advice for some nice places to visited. I gave her some landmarks to places I just love (as The Lost Gardens of Apollo). Morwen.

My front door is pretty much open to anyone. Most of them don't stay though... after one look at the rack, bullwhip and genital shocker they suddenly remember somewhere else they need to be.

i have only been in game for about 3 weeks now so i guess i am still a noob. but i for one have never asked for anything. i have achieved land ownership and i have a home, i begin my second life job this weekend nad after that the possibilities are limitless.
so for many of you to say that all a noob does is beg is not very pokite. there are many of us who did not. granted i already had friends when i started this game, but i have never asked anyone for anything and i do not intend to start now.

*applause* I haven't read this whole post, but yes luckily for all you long-time residents there are those of us, like myself who know better than to come into an online community begging and spamming for info, freebies, etc. Maybe that's the reason I have met very FEW rude folks so far in SL. Most of the established residents seem cool enough to me, and helpful at that! I would go as far as to say the majority of SL RESIDENTS (established paying customers) make up the most mature group of folks I have ever encountered in my 12 or so years chatting around on the 'net.

Angel. well as we know this isnt life its secondlife, and as we rent our spot we reserve the right to invite whom we please. to some this may seem snobbish, to others, its fine. either way is cool with us. we have met some really nice people, and have added them to our friends list, but that does not mean you can map us and drop in anytime. have we been mean to anyone who has come to our door? no. do we like our private times together? yes its not a question of you get what you give, i for one has helped many a new player with clothes, monies, and answers to questions if i could. but i have also had to deal with those who demand i give them jobs, lindens or as i stated above, get out of "thier" house, when they have made themselves comfortable in our home. so its not a question of you get what you give, too many people out here are giving back and are attacked for it. its more akin to respect others and you will receive the same.

From: Summer Gulick Sounds to me like another teenager on the grid... The number of these seems to have risen very sharply after Wednesday's update. I've had three incidents of push-attacks in public, and the pusher clearly doesn't give a rat's ass for the history or ban risk for his character. My suspicion is that some under-age forum somewhere out there has a grab-bag of adult SL logins, most likely obtained with stolen CC nos (that's how they get into the various porn/stroker sites), and the little darlings are coming in, in a semi-organised way. ("yew look like a fagit" from a lanky number in a dicky-bow tied dinner suit was my favourite from Friday - well, OK, if you come from South Bend, OR, I probably do, to you. Anyone know where I can get some Borg shielding that triggers when some other force moves me, and roots me to the spot?)

They dont need anything, anybody can just come on to secondlife.com and create an account, the only teens on the teen grid are the honest ones.

From: Earl Zabibha I know it can’t be just me but has anyone else noticed that you run across a lot of @$$holes running around the welcome lands? I am talking about the people that have been on SL for a while, not the newbes!! We were all new at one time...
I have been on SL before many years ago and now I am back after a long stint away, and I like to meet the and greet the new comers to SL and I find a lot of very rude elders that will not help the new people or answer questions for them. I have see them tell them to go away and leave them alone they do not want to talk or help. Now why would they hang out in these areas if they don’t want to help out?
I run around in a cop uniform and greet all I can and hand out items (have over 5K+ items in inventory) to help them get started like clothes, jewelry, autos, etc. and have even given out some $$$. And offer guide services for free around diff lands to show them the ropes. (Unlike the other police ones you see around here that want to charge for all services)
At times I catch grief from some elders because I give away items thinking that it is going to make the new comers start asking for stuff for free from others.. Granted I have seen some running around asking for money from others, and it’s not always the new people.
Just venting I've been a resident for a little over a week. In that time I've run into 'instructors' that were trying to sell things they got for free. ....then sell you instructions on how to use them. If that's not hustling enough, the other day I ran into some guy at Orientaion Station that had his character done up in a wheelchair and was asking new people for handouts. His claim for pity was that he was homeless. After stating to him and the newbies around him that in SL he can fly if he wants, I offered him 10 houses I had picked up for free. His reply? No thanks, I just want the L20. Big Surprise. SL seems to mirror RL in that people seem to work the angles they are familiar with. BTW, in reference to the quote in the previous post, I'll disregard the comments made about my ass.

I've been fortunate that I've met mostly nice people in my 4 weeks in SL. I can understand people wanting to put up barriers, I probably would if my area had a high "drop in" rate. However one time I was flying around and I bumped into one that said "F*** YOU" - I thought that was quite unnecessary SOMEBODY's pissy... The most obnoxious thing I've encountered happened last night - I was leading a new player around in the Gnubie store and this fuglified avatar that intermittently emitted a green cloud of gas accompanied by a farting noise followed us around asking "how much?" "you're not whores?" Heh. I do hate people sometimes. Thankfully there are gems that help offset that feeling.

I was wout for a fly in my chopper last night, and I was shot out of it by some dipstick that had nothing better to do.... I wish SL would lock this place down, and use only credit cards to ver accounts, not just an email, you can make fake email accounts.

Ok, I'll post my war story here too.
I was in a building class today and one of the newly-arrived participants kept flying round the classroom. I thought at first he was stuck in some sort of animation, but it soon became clear he was a griefer. He even said that disrupting the class was the most fun he had had in SL so far (what a saddo!). We had to wait while the baby had his fun. From what he says in his profile about his first life - it would seem he has quite a responsible job. Or maybe that's just what he wants to be when he grows up.

I think you can safely say he was that way when he joined. Unless he's an alt of course. What I think is sad is that the actions of a few are making me suspicious of the actions of many. Yesterday I chewed out a newbie for what I later (i.e. in RL when I cooled down) realised was an honest mistake. I IM'd him later, but didn't I make his first day a blast?
