From: Joseph Worthington Logged in the other morning to discover someone had rezzed a bunch of spheres onto the house. For what purpose I don't know, but I'd rather not have to deal with things like that on a constant basis. Isn't there a switch to turn off the ability for others to rez things on your land? -Sheba

-Sheba no although we can keep the avi out, they can rezz anything they wish onto our land. all we can do is return it to them. which gets annoying after a while, i actually would like to see something to prevent that as well. but as i keep stating and what seems to be the true missed point is this: RESPECT: lately people have been showin less and less respect towards others in regards to thier property, privacy, and all the hard work that goes into it. yes there are some who love to show off thier homes, and have an open door policy, more power to them and ty for that, but as Summer and Joseph put it, THEY PAY THE COST TO BE THE BOSS, not you, not some player who feels the ban lines interrupt thier serene flying experiance, not those who feel others have something to hide, and definatly not some ass who feels that because he cant come onto anothers property, that gives him the right to dump his garbage onto it. sighs i need coffee :| ps. totally forgot the no build, no script under opt which i had thought(wrongly) was already on. my bad.

Yes, turn build off. What yuo're thinking of is rezzing something elsewhere and moving it to your land.
Odd. Where my land is I get quite an influx of newbies, this last batch has been very well mannered.
my partner and i did actually watch this guy constantly try to open the door as if it was defying him, we have had people actually tp into our home w/o so much as a by your leave, excuse me or sorry,(we did have some who asked about a store that used to eb there and we told them they moved and they were cool about it) and make themselves comfy(no we weren't havin sex, nor did we have anything to hide)we were just snuggled on the couch talkin, when we asked Hi how can we help ya, nothing. we figured ok lag hell, give him time to rezz the place fully and realise where he was after five minutes, we asked him again, he went afk,(yes we were giving him the benefit of the doubt) then came back and asked us wth were we doin in his house. we bought a security system that day. so if you are gettin the good ones hey i wish you well cause apparently ours is the black hole of rudeness where it pulls them in like flies.

When niceness doesn't work, I will use the "freeze" and "eject" tools which come with land ownership. I had to use "freeze" recently when I had an annoying squirrel come and try to hump my leg. When they do something like that, I dont even give them the time of day or say Hi, they just get frozen. If you have somebody demanding that you leave their house, when you are in YOUR house, "freeze" and "eject" seem to get the message across pretty quickly about just who owns the place. I did also have a couple of newbies in my house ignoring me when I said hello, they went straight for the sexgen bed. I think I might have spoiled their fun when I took it back into inventory just as they were preparing to use it, though, because they took off pretty quickly after that. I also usually put a 1 minute autoreturn on my land, it solves the problem of people rezzing trash or even moving it in from another parcel.

From: Snowflake Fairymeadow If you have somebody demanding that you leave their house, when you are in YOUR house, "freeze" and "eject" seem to get the message across pretty quickly about just who owns the place.. I had something Similar a few days ago on Land i was doing a Build on for a friend. A Newb showed up, and Claimed Ownership of the Entire sim, and Ordered me Off the Property. I remained Calm, and simply told the person he was Mistaken and i didn't believe him. He Rezzed a weapon, NP, I had my shields up so he could have fired until Doomsday with no effect (He never did because a few little peripheral fliers of his ran into my shields and were thrown off world somewhere). He blustered, he threatened, and i just maintained my Calm tone (I didn't own this land so Freeze, eject, and Ban were not available to me). When he Threatened to Summon a Linden and have me thrown out, i simply said "I've saved you the trouble, and forwarded this chat to one of the Lindens, he will be here Momentarily if you care to wait." He waited, and after a few moments Converse with the Linden, Was Given a short term Ban. Now, Not once did i raise my Voice, or become either threatening or insulting. At no time in the Conversation was it Necesary in order to get my point across. I was neither Insistant nor Demanding in Telling the Linden of my Difficulty with this person. I remained at all times Calm, and Polite. End result, He was Banned, and i finished my Build Unmolested, with my Blood pressure well within safety margins. I would have gained Nothing by returning his discourtesy, and i believe i made something of an Impact by my demeanor because when i told him to remain and wait for the Linden, he Listened and did so. He didn't have to, But he did. Angel.

That's intersting, Angelique, I wonder what is making them think they own the land? Seems to be a common problem lately. Also interesting that he waited for the Linden to come around too. I agree its nothing to get your blood pressure up about, even if someone is rude to me I usually will not engage them in an argument, it just causes further problems

Day One and hit on already!
10-20-2006 22:56
This is my first time in this forum and I couldn't help but notice the topic of this post.
I just finished my initial tour of the training island and was walking around the Graduation pavilion. (I think that's what its called.) Along comes this guy who starts to chat with the usual questions. Where are you from, and so on. Then he says, "That does it!" and walks right into me pushing my avatar off the platforn and into the brush. I guess I know what he was trying to do. I just flew up, landed on the other side of the pavilion and logged off. I'm not a prude and don't mind fun & games but geees!!!!!! I didn't even get to the main land yet! I hope his behavior isn't that common in SL.
Just felt I had to post my first experience with an unwelcome advance.

Just felt I had to post my first experience with an unwelcome advance. Well welcome to SL Carolyn! Seems were a bag of mixed nuts in here now, but ya cant really engage in um sexual behavior in SL without pose balls, but that you will find out as you spend time on the main grid. Thinking your new "friend" there possibly did not see any of your replys and took you as being rude..lol and decided to try and get your attention. Ah well you will meet some incredible ppl in SL and you will meet some nuts, but i guess it takes all kinds to make the world go round..have a fun time..and keep a thick skin...lol they sell them all over...JKJKJK

One thing that maybe will make you feel a little bit more comfortable. As far as I know this person could not have done more than push you or annoy you in IM or chat with crude statements. Without some kind of animations system (poseballs or whatever) he could not have sexually assaulted your av in such a way that is was seen on the screen. Also if he had an animation system you would have been asked via blue box for permission to animate your AV. My cousin Hettie had a similar experience on Orientation Isle and on Help Isle she had a creep chasing her asking if she wanted to f***. There are asshats and idiots everywhere. SL is no different. Here I think they are a bit bolder though.

Thanks for all of the replies. I do have a thick skin and I have to admit that not only was I surprised by the attempted advance, but at the same time a bit humored by it. No boubt people in a virtual world can be a little more,,,, free, with their behavior or advances. Presently I'm still on help Island and plan to stay there for a little bit longer to practice building and other tasks. That is if I don't get a draft notice to be sent to the main Island. Again, thanks for the replies and offers. See you on the other side!

I can understand a bit about the newbies being a little rude, NOT ALL just some, most are nice and just ask alot of questions trying to learn what they are doing.
However I find it hard to believe that I find so many elders here that are rude. I can't tell you how many times I have been attacked because of what I was wearing. or when out checking out new places and someone will just shoot you with out warning just because you crossed there land...
The welcome areas have just turned into an attack fest and everyone just pushing you around even when your not in anyones way. These are the ones when you check the profile they have been here for 2 years or so. Back when I was on here 2 years ago, others were not like this.
Looks as if we need more SL babysitters for these areas. Hard to get one when you need one......

From: Earl Zabibha I know it can’t be just me but has anyone else noticed that you run across a lot of @$$holes running around the welcome lands? I am talking about the people that have been on SL for a while, not the newbes!! We were all new at one time...
I have been on SL before many years ago and now I am back after a long stint away, and I like to meet the and greet the new comers to SL and I find a lot of very rude elders that will not help the new people or answer questions for them. I have see them tell them to go away and leave them alone they do not want to talk or help. Now why would they hang out in these areas if they don’t want to help out?
I run around in a cop uniform and greet all I can and hand out items (have over 5K+ items in inventory) to help them get started like clothes, jewelry, autos, etc. and have even given out some $$$. And offer guide services for free around diff lands to show them the ropes. (Unlike the other police ones you see around here that want to charge for all services)
At times I catch grief from some elders because I give away items thinking that it is going to make the new comers start asking for stuff for free from others.. Granted I have seen some running around asking for money from others, and it’s not always the new people.
Just venting .

For people who don't know how the land selling system works, a notecard entitled "deed" with an embedded LM might look fairly official. I have no evidence this IS happening, but it would explain this sudden "Get off my land" thing. Kam

There are rude newbies and there are rude elders, it is simple as that to me.
And we you talk about a little rude that there not much wrong. Maybe confusion by not used to English as main langauge. Confused by new situations. Confusion by whatever... No big deal, step over it.
But there is no excuse for real rude behaviour. Are you guest somewhere, then behave as one.

From: Earl Zabibha HUH? what did you say? He said: there are rude newbs and rude long timers, and that sometimes what most mistake for rudeness can be somethign as simple as a language issue. not everyoen out here speaks english. i get gentle reminders of that myself. in a nutshell: its how you deal with it.

My house used to be open to anyone (apart from some names on the ban-list). By some recent events I had to change this. Personally I dislike the security systems that kick you just away to you home point. So now I replaced the doors in my house with scripted doors. The front is basically always open, but if I wish I can lock it and then only those on the guestlist can enter. Doors to some rooms are now permently locked. I also switched my land to "no flying". It is sad, I wished it was not needed... but to guard my privacy I had to do this. Morwen.

Morwen. nods so true, but in an earlier post i have in this forum a locked door only does so much. and all a person has to do is a camera pan and click on any sit ball in your home to gain entry. we have the doors yes, but with the added security, by the time they do manage to rezz/campan/ and click on the sit ball, they are already wherever thier home setting is. p.s. my partner and i decided on setting the system to sending them home as the alternative was makin them someone else's headache and that would be rude.
