Actually Shunga is explicit art. I don't know how they could justify leaving it in PG within the current guidelines.

I think that Shunga may be a relatively special case, in that it is designedly erotic; I could probably see an argument for having it moved to mature. I do think, however, given that it IS art, that their approach might be a little less bull-in-the-china shop than it appears to have been. And I'll note that the person I quote from the BB meeting makes no such distinction: the Venus de Milo, to use an obvious example, is still just "T&A" to him or her . . .

The Royal Ontario Museum here in Toronto recently had an exhibit of Japanese print art from the seventeenth century; it included a number of pieces of Shunga. I think that there MIGHT have been a brief warning of "adult content" at the beginning of the exhibit, but there was certainly no other impediment to anyone seeing what were, in fact, some pretty explicit prints.

I've just done a compare of my shops - the soon to vanish old mature and the new zindra.

In the mature shop the number of avatars with nopiof has risen to 50% - it's been around 40 for the best part of 4 months now and a couple of weeks ago dropped to 30%. This is odd because I don't have any hunts going on atm so there's no need for people to bring in their alts to get freebies

at the zindra shop npiof are running at around 20%

I can't draw any conclusions from this - except that it's sl and nothing is ever consistent

i think that the word porn should not even be used in the subject really..

because there is some shocking art ..it all depends on ones taste..but i do think it can be categorized..

i don't think location and the final owner should have any say as to determining if it is art or not..
thats just silly talk..that means they contributed to the final outcome of all the artists hard work..

Categorizing art i don't see a problem..i mean some things would be too shocking for children or some older people..
because some things fall under the adult definitions it does not make it less art than any other art..
all content in SL is someones creation and to them it is all considered their art..so it would not be fair to everyone if someone paints a picture of someone having say sex with three men and be allowed to be mature because they say..this is art and those couches and beds you made are just furniture..i am mature and you are adult..

SL itself was created by all of it's artists ..all of us that create and contribute to it's content...

A great deal of what we now consider to be "fine art" was made for sexual titillation, as for example many of the nude portraits of royal mistresses that can be found in art galleries all over the world. I am thinking, for instance, of a really beautiful one of Nell Gwynn, made for Charles II, which was almost certainly intended to be royal wanking material:



The mere fact that they are highly eroticized, highly explicit, or even intended for masturbation, doesn't make them any less art or, necessarily, any more "porn." Pornography is a modern phenomenon, and its rise coincides with the introduction of mass reproduction. The codes and conventions of porn are really very different from that of explicitly sexual art, even where art deliberately mimics porn.

There are always going to be grey areas between art and porn, but in 99% of the cases, I think the distinction is usually clear enough.

(This will be an interesting test case, btw: does this post get yanked by the moderator because it links to a reproduction of a 17th-century art nude? I guess we'll learn about more about LL's attitudes to art and porn as a result . . .)

If ticket processes are on hold, how did the SIM (Mystro Pestro) behind mine get claimed today (claimed MOnday, July 6th) by a land baron,put in an *adult group* that threw a copy of an empty castle down (That comes in a rezz box and causes MAJOR lag while being set up, explains my sim performance going to shit.. last time we rezzed that thing on our land it crashed the sim)....and added a bunch of Adult Terms to the land?

just a guess of course. There could be a million reasons from it's a swap from land they already had somewhere else on zindra to the fact it took them until today to claim it.

why don't you ask them and come back with some more details.

In the end it's their pram and we're guests (albeit paying through the nose guests). Throwing toys out of the pram over general corruption and incompetence is becoming dull now and means nothing unless the throwee is prepared put up details, shut up or to toddle away.

If it bothers you so badly go and post it in jacks more land in zindra thread on the blog. You never know, you may actually get an answer (although probably not)

I was just more curious as to how, when i checked that land a day or so ago, was still Gov lindens land, and was claimed today. Perhaps it was sitting waiting... no idea. Didn't they lock the other blog? I'll go look again

I saw yesterday some unclaimed land set for zero for a residential business in Zindra also. I believe they are quietly working on the ones they want to work on.
I see alot of residential business' moving in and then they set the land to the tenant group. I guess the Lindens used a loophole to allow residential when they said only commercial moves first. Seems like the Lindens decided that hardcore Adult Content business; do not deserve shoreline views - but adult residential plots deserve the shoreline. What a travesty.

It may just be that LL processed his/her ticket before the weekend, set the land for sale, and that the one who is getting this land has been offline and thus didn't have an opportunity yet to "buy" the land.

frankly, i would be surprised if a certain crusader, who just happens to have the same initials as the company that owns and runs SL, hasn't already AR'd you for being a pedophile for posting a picture which has a child in close proximity to a nude person...
