There is a great deal of debate over whether the woman depicted in the painting is indeed Nell Gwynn. Often as not, she has also been described as Barbara Villiers, an earlier mistress of Charles II.

What is not a matter of debate, is that the painting hung in the royal bedchamber of the king at, the Palace of Whitehal. It was behind a secret sliding panel, disguised as a landscape painting, that had been created for just this purpose.

Before it's sale to a private party in 2007, the painting hung in the National Portrait Gallery, London, where it was titled, “Portrait of a Lady and Child as Venus and Cupid.”

Barbara Villiers was Charles II's leading mistress in the early years of his reign and became Duchess of Cleveland in 1670. This portrait depicts the King's mistress with her eldest son by the King, Charles Fitzroy, later created Duke of Southampton and then Duke of Cleveland. It is the most audacious of Lely's role portraits as it depicts the mistress and illegitimate son as Madonna and Child.

A portrait of Nell Gwyn, who started her acting career at the age of 15 years and in 1669 became the mistress of Charles II, whom she bore two sons. The diarist Samuel Pepys, a contemporary, called her ‘pretty, witty Nell’.

The University of Kansas has land in SL, it's marked at PG, but they show 'adult' artworks there, it is a private estate, so do we expect to see one rule for one and one rule for another here? but of course I don't want them reported, for one of those adult themed artworks belongs to me and is a winner in a '30 best works of art' in the past year competition.

Well, of course, there IS a double-standard with regard to this, built into LL's rubric on Adult content: educational content gets essentially a free pass. That's excellent, in my view, but, yes, some sort of reasonably liberal approach should be applied to artistic content elsewhere too.

It occurred to me after posting Nell (or Babs) that a better Western analogue to Shunga might be the early 17th-century "I Modi" engravings, attributed (doubtfully) to Marcantonio Raimondi, after sketches by Giulio Romano. These were meant to accompany a series of 16 erotic sonnets putatively written by Pietro Aretino, and featured a variety of different gods, heroes and heroines, and other famous personages in different sexual positions. They were printed, so were somewhat more akin to modern porn than Shunga, but available only to a limited coterie audience. Copies were hunted down by the Church and destroyed; only fragments remain, although another set of prints, probably by Agostino Carracci, survived.




I have a friend who is producing an inworld edition of these prints. Here's a question: would I be allowed to sell such an edition at my bookstore in a Mature sim?

Last night me and my sim partner was looking over who has move to zindra. Now we are not wanting to move to zindra we are going for the island deal witch means linden labs would make more hard earn cash off us. But like ever one else we have to wait. Thats cool and all. Now what I have seen moved to zindra must be some thing along the lines of lindens friends. So its who you know not how it was set up.
A golf corse was moved to a whole sim. Kicker was there one was building where you can rent the clubs for the corse. Now how is that sexual content? When I asked the owner of the sim how is your gold corse sexual content? I was yelled at and banned from the sim.
Looking around some more. I seen maybe 10 to 15 shops that should have been moved for what they sale thats cool and all. But what seems to be moved in the most was rental homes. Now Jack said if I got this right they did not have to move as long as it was keept in side.
So from what I see and feel only the people who have linden friends are being moved befor any one else. FYI 1% to 5% ya right Linden Labs try 75%!!

How do you know, Jenn, that the golf course owner didn't have a sex club on their old land? What they had on their old land is the reason people got the swap, not what they put on the new land.

The AR nannies will be doing the rounds I am sure, but technically if its PG estate or not they still have to abide by the rules and I am sure there will be plenty filing complaints as always, such a shame. Congratulations on the win though

They do indeed have different rules, this was mentioned in the educators brown bag meeting, if it has cultural and educational value then the rules don't apply.

We may take into account whether apparent or reported adult content or conduct on a particular Region serves only an extremely limited or passive function, or an important educational or cultural function, and therefore would be appropriate for all Second Life audiences.
