I only have the PDF of the Linden guide. It has 188 pages and 20 chapters. Are you talking about a product licenced to a different company? In the book that I have, Tringo is only mentioned as the most noted SL-created item and that it is now offered on various RL platforms. I'm talking about the "second life the official guide" book, isbn: 0-470-09608-X, copyright 2007, published by Wiley. I don't have a copy of the PDF version, but the printed version is 342 pages long. Sounds like the printed and electronic versions might be different? -Atashi _____________________

And your analogy is not working in the way you intend it to work because selling hair or being a hairdresser is by no means illegal. Gambling and making money off it is. Can you gamble with hair? I guess I lost, then. |

Nobody has taken any islands from anyone. They just don't want him to sell 'hair' on the islands. Read the original post before you get snotty. nah pretty much everyone in the thread is flaming a guy asking for input i can be snotty to you are and so is pretty much everyone else i get tired of people trolling for no reason its hard to actually take part in a discussion its not like he's asking for anything other then if people are interested in something |

Yes I AM talking about poor customer service and I PURPOSEFULLY used the analogy of hair here so everyone would NOT focus on gambling.
"BE EVIL" But that is what you have chose to do, not me. "BE EVIL" NO LL has NOT ceased my islands. They simply continue to take tier from my USD account LONG after I have asked them through all channels if they will buy them back or give several months free rent to re-tool them since they were purchased for purpose of something they ADVERTISED was something they could be used for. "BE EVIL" LATER they banned what they advertised and wish to stick me with islands I purchased for some reason which they can no longer be used for. "BE EVIL" And NO this is NOT about money any more. "BE EVIL" This is about FRAUD and really has reached a personal level. "BE EVIL" I LOVE SECOND LIFE I HAVE MORE INVESTED IN IT THEN ANYONE WILL EVER KNOW "BE EVIL" I AM SICK AND TIRED OF LINDEN LABS WALKING OVER PEOPLE FOR THIER OWN SAKES "BE EVIL" THEY WILL NOT EVEN COMMUNICATE WITH THIER RESIDENTS! |

Being inaccurate tends to make snottiness look a little silly. Just a friendly tip. |

I think you need to talk to a real life lawyer.
To play Internet Lawyer (aka "someone who has never seen the inside of a law school but likes to post" for a moment, I'd suggest that the group of people in situations similar to yours is almost certainly too small for a judge to agree to a class action. According to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (rule 23), a class action is allowed only if "the class is so numerous that joinder of all members is impracticable" (among other requirements).Class action aside, if LL really was advertising Second Life as a place that you could run a gambling business, then that's something (again) that you need to talk to a RL lawyer about. As for asking on the forums. In my experience, you are an honest man who worked hard and did a lot for the community. However, most casino owners in SL were... not. Thus casino owners are going to be an unpopular group here on the forums, and you are unlikely to get much good advice and are likely to get a fair amount of abuse. |

And where exactly did he mention that? *scratches head* So are you saying Linden Lab confiscated his four islands because, despite warnings, he was still running casinos?* read it again lol apparently i am saying LL took away his islands and he doesn't have them anymore and please dont tell me that is not what he said i said ... anyhow people are being strange he said the stuff was on the site at one time no one believed him so i pulled it up then they argue other semantics we are not lawyers i just pulled up information which he can take to one who might be able to tell him if he has a case or not. The fact remains he entered this "thingy" to do a specific thing he was allowed to at that point. At that point with my teeny tiny knowledge of law he entered into a contract and the writing at that time said he could do it. NOW years later they say NO YOU CAN'T DO IT after he bought the islands he would like them to make some sort of amends perhaps even just an apology as he puts it "do the right thing" which is morals and ethics which sometimes you can build a case around if you so choose. To him money is no object and well so why is everyone flaming him for wanting to try ? meanwhile the fact remains up until may 18 2007 at least (maybe longer the archive wont be updating for another 20 days or so) the site had the job description casino operator on it so he had no warning of any kind and has to pay rent to islands he can no longer use for the purpose he bought them for. Now in real world when they ask people to stop doing something at least where i am they dont say here keep paying us rent they usually offer a bit of a compensation. Eg: when they expanded the international airport where i am they had to take land from people they paid them money for their land and relocation costs that's called "doing the right thing" now i think most people can convert but that's me if he doesn't want to convert that's his choice and no one should be forcing him. MOst people from what i can tell left the game totally. He HAS the sims up for sale i went there the other day and they are all up for sale except for the first main sim so he is selling them or renting them or whatever you do with private sims the issue here is not the money as he has repeatedly stated its THE PRINCIPLE. |

Whine Whine Whine Man up, the rules changed adapt and overcome or move on. In the real world rules are changed all the time. A recent smoking ban has cost the bars and restaurants in my area 30-50% of their income. They sure as hell didn't get a few months without paying property taxes to retool their businesses. Their rent or mortgage is still due. _____________________

So you still have the islands. Thanks for clarifying. Redevelop them or sell them, and stop complaining. "LATER they banned what they advertised and wish to stick me with islands I purchased for some reason which they can no longer be used for." As above, redevelop or resell. It's your problem, not Linden Lab's, and nobody is forcing you to keep ownership of the islands. "This is about FRAUD and really has reached a personal level." No, it's about your unwillingness to accept the facts. "I LOVE SECOND LIFE I HAVE MORE INVESTED IN IT THEN ANYONE WILL EVER KNOW" Capitals don't add anything to the simple fact that whilst it may well have been a lot of money to you, a lot more people have spent a lot more money and are governed by the same rules as you now are. "I AM SICK AND TIRED OF LINDEN LABS WALKING OVER PEOPLE FOR THIER OWN SAKES" Welcome to capitalism. "THEY WILL NOT EVEN COMMUNICATE WITH THIER RESIDENTS" Sounds to me like they've tried, they just aren't giving you the answer that you want - a different answer to the one they have to give. Whilst I can understand why you are unhappy, you've been given plenty of suggestions here as to solve it in some way. Not once in Second Life's advertising, ever, have they claimed "making money is easy". Broccoli _____________________

Eg: when they expanded the international airport where i am they had to take land from people they paid them money for their land and relocation costs that's called "doing the right thing" . Big difference Wilhelm, he still has his land, those people didn't. There are numerous cases in the United States where environmental laws have cost people the use of their property for what they bought it for. The courts have held that as long as they still own the land, it is not a taking and no payment is needed. _____________________
