Believe me, I'm tempted. Just to put this whole hair trauma behind me. And I'll be sitting pretty when they do finally ban hair.

What is in store for SL once they ban hair:

So you made casinos for fun... but now you can't make casinos anymore. So you are going to sue Linden Labs for... taking away your fun?

Well it sounds as if they did get him to sign up and buy 4 sims by promising him fun (and maybe profits) operating a casino:

http://web.archive.org/web/20060215202722/http://secondlife.com/whatis/businesses.php

And now he has the sims and a big monthly fee but it they have taken away what he, not so unreasonably it seems to me, thought he was getting when he agreed to spend his money. Maybe he trusted that LL would not have said he could do it if it were illegal and he had a Monte Carlo-esque fun spot all planned, or even built.

Now he's pretty disappointed and would like some acknowledgment of this from LL

I'm not generally a huge fan of casino operators in rl or SL. And I tend to forgive LL for not being able to instantly manifest a perfect version of their vision. But I do feel some sympathy for Chilly"s position.

He says he still has them.

but nothing but campers and signs complaining about the gambling ban.

Broccoli

okay firstly

i know he had them but i guess sarcasm is lost on some people
next
i said he had them and had put them up for sale as well as he does
and lastly

next he never has had any campers if there are some now i would be amazed but camping chairs were not a part of chilly charleton's casino

as for price i have no idea i didn't bother to look as i dont need land now ..

in any event the sarcasm was lost i guess the *rolls eyes* didn't give it away like i thought it would..

Linden Lab has the right at any time for any reason or no reason to change and/or eliminate any aspect(s) of the Service as it sees fit in its sole discretion.

+++

End of Story. End of Lawsuit.

That said, the writing has been on the wall for months now, ever since LL announced that they had invited the FBI to examine SL. The ban on "casino" in the classifieds should have been a clear shot across the bow to anyone involved in the gambling trade, from operators to manufacturers of casino games.

And feel free to substitute "hair" for gambling/casino in the above analogy.

I don't know if Chilly is a US Resident, but LL has also warned, repeatedly, that users of SL need to abide by the laws of their local jurisdictions.

Hmmm it is illegal to cut hair without a license, does prim hair count?

since they were purchased for purpose of something they ADVERTISED was something they could be used for.

Okay, suppose you simply buy a car because the guy who sells it to you says "And you know what? This is just THE best car if you want to run over grannies!". So you start running over grannies and get pissed that there are consequences...?

Are you an US citizen, Chilly? Then you should have known before you invested your money that online gambling and making money off it is illegal in the US. If i open a business, i damn well make sure it's legal in all aspects...

Oh, come off it. He's registered since January. *rolls eyes*

And for f***'s sake, there are so many cool things you can do with an island. Sheesh, make it a giant bordello, as long as escorting isn't banned. :p

A TOS really does not have a lot of power legally. You know if the TOS said that Philip could come round and shag your wife every second Thursday in the month would you just say "Oh right, well it's in the TOS so it must be right".

Yeah and since he doesn't care whether or not he makes money, he can give his hair away on the hair trees for newbies...

he doesn't want to why does he have to because LL told him to?

he scripted his own machines all of them and sold them to no one else they were exclusive although he had many people ask for him to sell his stuff he refused because it made them special
he scripted so many group games it was ridiculous

he didn't run an out of the box vgi casino with zombies he put a lot of work into it with events that were REALLY events.

the point is he didn't even have any warning to try to do anything they just threw down the ban hammer and it was done poof

one day there is casino's the next day there is not

now i'm not a huge gambler and there is no point in lobbying LL to keep them I know why they got rid of them but in all due fairness they could have given some warning and maybe a sorry after all the guy did give them thousands of dollars a month in tier for heavens sake
4 regular sims and i dont know how many sets of void sims but thats a fair chunk of change per month if you look at it.

I always find this a very ominous beginning to a post. This is a man with very neat hair.

SL is my chance to have the hair I always wanted in RL. I remember when I was young - throwing all my money at wild women and hair with wanton abandon. Hair was in its heyday and it seemed like the wild hair ride would never end. Unfortunately, some people just went too far with their hair. They didn't know when to stop or how to set limits on their hair habits. Pretty soon the government stepped in and started regulating, even outlawing hair. It was the worst of times without the best, the winter of our discontent without glorious summer.

Then the whole mess came down around our ears.

(Get it? Came down around our ears? HAH! I cracked me up right there)

Wrong. Advertising casinos was banned weeks before they banned them, with clear references to the legalities they were referring to in their decisions. That should have been warning enough that they would probably not just ban the advertising, but the games in itself.

It would have made me think that oops, hey, what I'm doing here might be illegal...? Hmmmm...

But then again, that's just me. I'm the nice gal. Law-abiding and bald. :D

Most people know you can't necessarily believe everything a car salesman says and that running over grannies is never allowed. But if The Ford Motor Company had glossy ads on their web site saying, "Now your passengers will enjoy sipping cocktails in our specially designed Elegant Party Area back seat," well then the Ford Co. would be somewhat to blame if some of their customers thought they had come up with a way to serve alcohol without running afoul of local open container laws.

Hey I've got an idea! Let's all go bald to go on strike against the hair ban... errr... And you know, Brenda, you could start selling WIGS to cover our baldness!

Brings a whole new meaning to "hair of the dog."

Hmm, introducing the absurd to the argument, how quaint. Such terms would clearly not be allowed to stand, and wouldn't be introduced in the first place. Ginsu Linden is not an idiot.

However, if you find that provision objectionable, you have every right to object, and stop using the service.

But, you did agree to the TOS, as written, and LL just "change(d) and/or eliminate(d) (an) aspect(s) of the Service as it sees fit in its sole discretion."

===

Now if the Bragg case holds up, there may be some wiggle room on the TOS. There could be some interesting developments for all SL residents in the result of that action. I would watch that even closer than the EROS case.
