Sorry chere,,Brenda has it Correct, "Speech Marks" is a colloquialism.

According to my old university's English department, speech marks is correct

http://www.lancsngfl.ac.uk/curriculum/literacy/lit_site/lit_sites/speech_marks/index.htm

'Quotation marks' is the colloquialism - then again, butchering the English language is what Brenda's compatriots do best ;)

Most Conan traditionalists consider these later pastiches to be nothing short of blasphemy. The movies were about a barbarian named Conan, not much else in common with Howard's barbarian. Howard was a very interesting man. I do prefer his Solomon Kane stories and some of his horror works over the Conan. His comedy "tall tales" are a good read as well.

I wouldn't go as far as to call them blasphemy as such. Of all the post-Howard pastiches, Jordan's are the best (or least worst I should say). The comics were very close to blasphemy, but not quite there. Never read Kane, but am a big fan of Howard and, to a lesser extent, Lovecraft. Norman's Gor books always had this vague undefinable feeling of being a half-hearted attempt to immitate Lovecraft and Howard - although he did have a few good original ideas which, I felt, he failed to really capitalise on.

We had to. The way you guys had it it was so dull and tedious. You took too many words from those French People.

Well said, Chris. As for me, I like the roleplay and when one of those envolved in the RP where I'm in logs off he or she thanks the others for a good RP. If I don't want to go to Gor I don't, simple. I'm a financial analyst, strongminded and there's nothing wrong with me

Whatever you do, don't come into any Gorean city, showing expose skin and little clothing as a woman, NOT wearing a titler, and expect to remain free for long. This is an adult world known as Gor, and being captured is a real reality if you don't pay attention to where you are, what the laws/rules are. ALL cities go to great length to give you ample warning to dress appropriately or wear a titler. Goreans encourage others to experience their culture. But when you do it, take the time to know what your doing.

Yeah but.

Don't fear the "capture." If you don't like it, you can always tell them to stop in IM because you're just visiting. Or worst case, just TP away. It might earn you a ban, but if it went down that way, I'm guessing you wouldn't want to go back anyhow.

BTW..slaves don't just run around on a leash all day saying Yes Master. If that is anyone's perception of what a kajira or slave is, you need to do some reading. As a kajira I am extensively trained in the arts of pleasure, dance, serving, massage, bathing to provide for the needs of the Free. Most of what I do is offer an expression of beauty in caring for my Master or the free around me. To judge any person who rp's a slave is simply wrong. Until you know what the entire culture is about, its best to remain open minded.

Well, I played it for about six months, and I can wholeheartedly say, hell yeah, it's mostly about following some guy around with you on a leash and saying "yes, Master." Hours of boredom punctuated by moments of drama, most often OOC.

From: someone
Gor has its own economic system, government structures, plant life, wild life, medical information. apothecary, numerous cities, terrain, philosophy, religions, etc.

The complexity is something interesting about the place, I'll grant you that.

If you get something fulfilling out of it, good for you, carry on! Me, meh.

That's a wonderful thing about gor. If you get forced into slavery, sexual slavery, violence, mutilation, brainwashing, etc, just politely ask them to stop.

I am glad I could be of service as you obviously could not tell fantasy play from real life. But I guess being a vampire or an "Elite" BDSM master is much safer than going to a Gorean sim.

This kind of gives me a good idea for a Sci Fi story -

A group (coven? Pack? nest? clique?) of vampires who contract HIV/AIDS becuase of their unsafe bloodletting sexual/death orgy practices.

-----------------------------
Perhaps:

a normal vampire is hurt by silver -

But one with aids is hurt by tin foil too.

I like the term "murder" of vampires, like a group of crows is called. :)

A group of Crows was called "The Black Crowes"

I know this becuase I saw them on a sort of Date at the Agora in 1990 before they were on MTV.

Ive read heaps of stuff on it now and while it's so far off to what i know there are aspects of it i think everyone uses in their everyday life with out knowing.
Maybe i'll visit an area sometime , maybe i won't but it's good to learn whats going on out there.

As opposed to the glorification of the Vampire Myth.

Vampires - which basically murder people for food.
