I'm new & heard there was a way to go to Gor as a visitor. Does anybody know how this works? Don't want to be captured or collared or anything, just want to see the sights.

Been there, done that. In my case, I went to Port Cos. They have a sign for you to wear and expect you to dress decently by their standards. Aside from that, if you respect them, they'll respect you. It wasn't my thing and I haven't been back, but it was nice to go there once.

Yes, I did the visitor thing there once. They give you a set of clothing and a visitor tag. You aren't really allowed to talk in Character but can talk in the OOC area and ask questions, and you can watch the people RP.

Call me weird, but it is not my idea of a second life to be bound all day following some guy in non modern clothing saying "yes master" and nothing else.
So I've never gone to the Gor sims, but if they are like the RPG places I've been (toxia, midian) you should be able to nab a visitor's tag.

Goreans are like Masons...2B1, Ask1.

I'm positive just about any Gorean out there would be more than happy to get you started on your visitor quest if you just asked them for direction!

What's decent by their standards? I mean, I know non-human doesn't usually fly, but do you need to don the equivalent free woman's garb? Are they going to get cranky if a female av shows up in pants or a short skirt? And how are you supposed to know ahead of time, if you're just curious and not actually invested in the RP?

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

if you tp there, you should land in the visitors section, there you will be handed notecards up the wazoo, on the main one is a embedded notcard(in some instances you are referred to a freebie box with the required clothing and visitors tag inside) with the Obervers Tag inside it. sometimes there is a fool or two who will ignore that tag and play capture the visitor, but if the sim is worth thier salt they will have firm rules in place regrding that kind of behavior.

also a few have tour guides who will guide you thru the sim if you wish or have firm rules that you remain with that guide during your visit there. however if all you wish to do is shop, many have the tp point to thier particular mall on the welcome to <insert Gorsim name here>.

All Gorean sims give you ample warning and time to adjust appearance. Only human avies are welcome on most Gorean sims. PUt on a titler or aka Observer titler and you can pretty much walk in any public area of a Gorean sim, as long as you don't interfere with the rp, don't talk in open chat (limit questions to private IM) and are dressed as a human avie. Most cities will encourage you to use their freebie clothing as well so you don't look out of place but if you wear an observer title and follow the sim rules you will be fine. Look for safe zones in each city such as markets and the point of entry for the laws, rules, titler, and free clothing.

If you are Gorean, come into the city in the garb you would wear for your role, as Free man, Free woman, or slave, dress accordingly and know your role and ettiquette. If your new then done an obeserver titler and head for the nearest Scribery to learn proper ettiquette.

Whatever you do, don't come into any Gorean city, showing expose skin and little clothing as a woman, NOT wearing a titler, and expect to remain free for long. This is an adult world known as Gor, and being captured is a real reality if you don't pay attention to where you are, what the laws/rules are. ALL cities go to great length to give you ample warning to dress appropriately or wear a titler. Goreans encourage others to experience their culture. But when you do it, take the time to know what your doing.

BTW..slaves don't just run around on a leash all day saying Yes Master. If that is anyone's perception of what a kajira or slave is, you need to do some reading. As a kajira I am extensively trained in the arts of pleasure, dance, serving, massage, bathing to provide for the needs of the Free. Most of what I do is offer an expression of beauty in caring for my Master or the free around me. To judge any person who rp's a slave is simply wrong. Until you know what the entire culture is about, its best to remain open minded.

Gor has its own economic system, government structures, plant life, wild life, medical information. apothecary, numerous cities, terrain, philosophy, religions, etc. The world of Gor is so vast, no one person could be a expert in all its facets. And for some, this is more than roleplay, this can be a form of enrichment to a D/s lifestyle as Dominant/submissive.

I have been in many roles including the former owner of a city. I have been a partarker in Gor for 13 years. I don't think I would be wasting my time on some boring experience such as some here want to suggest. Please walk in our sandals before judging.

I would suggest you avoid them entirely. Goreans are widely known as the worst side of BDSM and approach a cult in terms of techniques. There have been RL instances of people running away from their friends and families to live with their "masters," after intensive online indoctrination and behavioral modification.

I don't plan on visiting a GOR sim anytime soon, BUT if the mood stikes me, will I need a bhurka?

From what Chevonne said, sounds like you just need a titler. ;) I have no plans to visit either, in large part because I'm neko and I feel naked without my kitty bits, but I wondered how they worked the visitor angle.

One has to admire role play that is so well thought out. So well maintained and detailed.

I'd think it be worth visiting for just about anyone.

Regarding the person worried about being inducted in a cult...most of the worlds major religions, and some not so major ones, are cults.

Here here Brandi! AND they are all in person! You have to have access to someone in person generally to control their minds, usually using techniques that require deprivation of some sort. Anyone can run a search on mind control or brainwashing techniques to learn that.

Gor is a fantasy world, its not real, and its not BDSM. BDSM or D/s is based on safe, sane, and consentual idealogies. Everything is consentual. Gor online is even consentual, you have to turn the computer on, you have to sit behind the keyboard, you have to subject yourself of your own free will and consent to participate.

The two times I knowingly went to a Gor sim, mostly to see items which were not Gorean and that had been advertized for sale in their marketplace, I switched to a male form and dressed conservatively, rather than risk being female in a place that does not place a high value on free, self-assertive females. But either way, if you wear their freebie outfits and a visitor tag, and don't interfere with their RP, they are usually quite willing to allow you to visit, shop, and observe.

They definitely would not have appreciated my female anthro red fox form, so I didn't even consider teleporting to their sim in an non-Human form. A little courtesy and consideration can go a long way, even if the RP in the area isn't particularly to your tastes.

The same can be said for visiting any roleplay sim, whether it is Victorian, vampires, Western, Japanese, or whatever. If someone has bought a sim and set up a specific cultural setting, it can be pretty cool to visit and try to stay 'in-character' for their setting.

*Laughs* I once visited a Japanese sim that was specificly a Fedal Japan setting. I was very proper, in my kimono, obi and geta shoes, and spoke politely in Japanese. But they were a bit startled to see a legendary Kitsune (Japanese spirit fox) in their Human village, and even more so when my white-furred Kitsune Partner also showed up to shop. We hadn't realized, and they hadn't posted, that all visitors should be in a *human* Japanese form, you see.

its really sad that there are people like you that judge things that you do not know of nor have experienced

ive been in a d/s relationship for over a year now and even rp'd in a gor sim for about 4 months the only reason i left was because things were not active durring the times my rl spouse and i were in sl

Chevonne, thanks for your helpful information. I do know that Gor is its own little world in SL & operates on its own varied structure. From what I've seen the buildings are beautiful and just wanted to take a closer look.

I've also heard some very bad things about Gor, so not knowing what to expect, I thought I'd better know the rules if and when I take a little trip.

Your reply was very interesting. Although I did know Gor had its own structure I didn't know it was quite that detailed. If you'd ever like to waste some time with a NOOB I'd like to know more as I love knowing a little bit about everything to do with SL.

I'm so hooked on this game already.

Exactly. I've never done any RP before. A SL friend has some Gor experience, and I've been bugging her to take me to a sim to observe it. I didn' want to just pop into one. It amazes me how so many people here in SL, a place that if not wholly, is substatially based of fantasy ,demean those who live those fantasies just because they don't enjoy it themselves or it is offensive to them. I've done some reading on Gor, and while not necessarily my thing, it seems like it is amazing when done right. As far as the RL example mentioned, a lot more of these sex slave fiends have probably never heard of Gor than have practiced it. I'm defnitely gonna check it out.

I did visit a gor sim once, my friend took me there. I had to wear the clothes of a free woman, i.e. long skirt, long sleeved shirt and a veil.

Some of the male goreans there were playing with their swords and the females kneeling. All I saw really.

Funny thing is even if something 'Bad" can happen, so what. You TP out, log off and never go back. That's the beauty of SL. Low risk in your adventures,
