Tal Czari,

Just read your post and would love to take you up on your offer. I had kind of stopped reading this post as it had gone off in a different direction entirely, and so didn't see it until now. I will im you in game to make arrangements? It seems others are interested also, maybe this is a group tour now lol.

And thanks to everyone who responded to my post with information and offers of help. Very much appreciated.

~ Best wishes, Sommerland ~

Tour Group

If there is a tour group formed, I would love to join. I tp'ed around to a few Gor sims yesterday and felt out of place. A few males came onboard the ship I was standing on reading notecards and I felt uncomfortable, being a newbie. I quickly tp'ed out.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

If any of the forum cartel members sees me on their tour running around nekkid on a leash and laughs, I'll have them hunted. ;)

I would be interested on going with a group. I'm transgendered though and I would worry about how I would be received. I usually stay away from places where I wouldn't be welcomed.

Gor would be one of those places. In spades.

There is a new Gor sim opening this weekend, which should be safe for observers. Teveh Town.

Hi Sommerland!!

I discovered online Gor when I was conducting research on D/s (Dominance/submission) for a graduate class in Human Sexuality. I didn't even really know what the terms D/s or BDSM stood for. I am very traditional and was very naive.

Deciding that offline research was dangerous for this, I looked around on IRC and found the first online Gorean venue begun in 1996...6 months after it began. I thought there was going to be all kinds of "in-your-face" sexuality which, although not a prude, I really didn't want to see. To my surprise, the channel reminded me of Medieval role play and anything overtly sexual took place in pm's (IM's) in "alcoves." I began reading the books, wrote my term paper and actually turned it into my Master's Thesis.

Any online venue can be a hotbed of all kinds of activities. Gor has gotten a bad reputation from some of the "bad apples" - and unfortunately more of those are probably around. The main reason I stayed in a Gorean channel on IRC long after the research was the friends I made. (I am 45+ and the people in my channel are as well.)

In a strictly text-based environment like IRC, some kids (or older people who act like kids *grins) run around playing "assassin" and try to "force collar" women, etc. Our channel laughs and kicks them out.

Several months ago, a man from SL visited our channel and told us about SL. Our group cut their teeth on IRC so none of us were that interested in coming over. But, being the nosy....errr curious type...I came over and checked it out. I was fortunate that I had the man I met as a contact so went straight to their sim...which is the largest Gorean Sim on SL. They practice complete consensuality as does our group on IRC. Since then, my group has arrived and are slowly building our little piece of Gor.

NOW...unfortunately, since SL is a visual environment and there are scripts that can cage, and leash and so forth...the same idiots running around with inflated egos on IRC can now wield what they perceive as "power." Having been involved with Gor for 11 years, I know all the correct protocols, dress, language, etc. But I won't go to the (unfortunately majority) of the Gorean sims to visit due to the so-called non-consensuality.

If you, or anyone reading this, is curious about Gorean sims...I am a member of two that can be visited with no special clothes and no concern about forced anything..in fact visitors are welcomed most warmly. Please feel free to IM me on grid and I will personally escort you. *smiles*

Advice: If you go to any sim (Gorean or not) and you feel the least bit uncomfortable - TP out!! There really is no such thing as forced anything on SL...just those with inflated egos who THINK they can do such. And the people who enjoy that type of role play but then...they CHOSE that so it is still consensual. *smiles*

As the Gorean farewell goes:

I wish you well ;)

EDIT: Just read Capella's post and Iaomai is the sim I was referring to as the largest and very newcomer-friendly. The other is my IRC home that is now on SL - A^Turian^Gate. NOT, I repeat, NOT Turia. Our channel is #Turia on IRC and we were dismayed another Turia was already on SL. We visited it and were sorely disappointed in the forced stuff...so we created our own and had to use a different name. I am involved in both...so again...my offer as chaperone stands.

Hear hear!

Well said Indeed
I believe i shall look you Up in World, it's always a pleasure to meet someone who REALLY understands things.

That's probably the most important. In SL you don't have to do anything you don't want. TP, log off, don't go back. Saves some of the stress.

From what little I have observed the Gor population is not there to be observed like animals in a zoo so I don't suggest a "tour" of Gor lands. You can read their notecards and decide for yourself if you want want to sign up.

My only advice is that the Gor people run their outfits pretty much like any army. You have to say certain things to certain people to be an official Gorean. If you enjoy regimentation and a strict set of rules to live by join them or, be all you can be, and join the US Marines in real life.

Eh, I'd argue that pretty much anything down in the open on an advertised sim that even has established rules for observation is there to be observed. It sees to me that the lifestyle folks would be interested in any kind of publicity and public acknowledgment to dispel stupid myths and teach people more about something the majority clearly doesn't understand- even if it's being observed like zoo animals to make sure they don't bite. From my own experience as an RPer, that's *also* an activity that's not clearly understood by your average passerby, and hey, role playing in a public place is pretty much begging for an audience. =) Both sides of the equation know how to go into a more private setting if they're not interested in being observed.... so I don't really see the problem.

General, random, note- Torcadino is not new player friendly. Observer friendly though.

Agreed, as a citizen of Tarnburg I can say we don't mind if ppl observe but again, wear the observer tag so you can walk around undisturbed. If not, and you should enter a forced collar zone, chances are someone might capture you. Especially women...I've seen it happen and then you'll get discussions OOC about why you didn't wear a tag. I can't speak for other Gor sims, but we welcome new ppl. When you enter the sim, pls read the rules and should you have any questions IM a citizen. (unless they're in RP with someone) And you can always IM me inworld, I'd be happy to show you around. :)

Hi Susie :)

It depends on which Gorean sim. The main one to which I refer conducts formal guided tours and welcomes visitors. It is primarily a Learning Center and those of other Gorean sims often come for the classes, in addition to those interested for any reason. The tour is very organized and quite nice and a group would be welcomed.

Hi Sommerland, Bill, Raine, Dallas, and Angel!

Nice to meet all of you and I certainly extend my offer to be a "Gorean Guide" to you.

Tal Capella and Mandy *smiles*

It is nice to meet others who are Gorean and/or understand rp type sims. I agree wholeheartedly with your posts. I'd like to visit Tarnburg now that I have met someone from there!

(Wonders if Gorean Guide falls under the sub-caste of Scribes *grins*)

This is really a nice thread. Thank you for beginning it Sommerland and for everyone being respectful, especially on a topic that could get out of hand due to misunderstandings. Very encouraging!

Like so many other things Gorean, there is a continuum of rules. Everybody has a shitload of rules, but most people don't read them. Frequently, the rules are completely meaningless. Other times they follow the rules to the letter. Other times, rules are only used against people they want to fuck over, and their friends don't have to follow them

If they act like animals there's nothing wrong with treating them as such.

Just ask the slaves.

What a joke.

Why do some call themselves gorean when they are a vamp ...
07-14-2007 14:33
I find this amusing and especailly in SL ... we all know that in gor ummm wonders where gor is cause there is no suck planet ... anyways ... Vamps and goreans do not mix or exist in gor ... how can one be a vamp and then be gorean it is unheard of .... OHHHHH I forgot this is disney gor and so I guess anything goes *CHUCKLES* again alot living in a make believe world and messing up with ppl minds and spirits etc ....

How many read the books wondering (prolly not many at all if that )

if those who love to rping then pick one you want to rp in and then be whatever that is cause gor and Vamps do not mix and will never mix as the blue flames of death would burn them up before reaching gor atmosphere .... read the scrolls or better known as the books before one choose to say they are gorean or Vampyre

to me gor is one big joke

Hi, Zola!

Well, since you asked...I collected all the books over the years and have read all but Witness (the 26th in the series) - some of them many times.

That is actually one of my pet peeves amongst those who claim to be Gorean (I agree, no such planet) or rp Gor - not bothering to read many if ~any~ of the books.

Errrmmm, I personally have not encountered any vampires in the Gorean sims I inhabit...but will put a necklace of garlic around my throat just in case *grins*

Zola

Ive been around the Gorean mythos long enough (since 1977) to see plenty of things out of the norm.
Vampires are said 'not to be' on Gor by the simple fact that Norman hasnt included any vampirism in any of the books...so far. Once he writes " BLOODSUCKERS of GOR" that will all change. Hell, he's done vikings, indians, and eskimo's, why not some vamp lore;)
As for vampires not mixing, take a look at some of the similarities. Vamps ( if only of the hollywood variety) tend to be caste oriented, they have slaves ( minions if you will, sycophants like Renfield from Dracula) and often seem to have a sense of honor in what they are doing. So though the purists wont be portraying any 'vampires who follow the Gorean ways', you could always play one in some 'disney gor' environment. I had an alt in TSO who was a vamp/gorean hybrid, made for some interesting deviations in the theme. Didnt mean I didnt know my shit, or hadnt read a book ( read em all, some more than once, including Witness). Just means my imagination doesnt need to be constrained in every venue I visit. You want hardline, book pure Gor? I can give you that. You want to experiment with something creative? Hell, I'll try anything once. As for the intent of this thread, I've brought newbies to Gorean cities to see whats up. Nobodies found themselves force collared yet, and none have worn a 'visitor' titler under my escort. Just get naked and let me do all the talking ;)
