I don't mind SL sex as long as I have a decent partner. I do it occasionally, but it seems kinda hard to find someone who really knows what's up. Yeah, the anims are fun, but it takes a lot more then some anims to have SL sex. I like to describe in pretty intricate detail what is going on, so it is def a mind thing for me. I have had SL sex right in public in a PG sim with a friend before, and no one was ever the wiser! The av's were just hangin' out. Now that's fun SL sex! Hehehe

The poll is meant to show how many people feel sex is a important part of SL and how many don,

Polls and surveys are very difficult to design, to word correctly, and to deploy correctly. But once they're released, their intent is irrelevant. It no longer means what you thought it means; it means what the respondents think it means.

For real surveys, there are often multiple questions and all sorts of cross-correlations that are used to help make valid interpretations. I don't expect you to be able to do that here, but I do expect you to refrain from adding particular twists to the interpretation that aren't backed up by hard data. You can't ask one thing, and then say it indicates something else.

This poll shows nothing more or less than how often a self-selected subset of the readers of these forums participate in sex in SL, ignoring for the moment that some people may deliberately fudge their answers. It says nothing about their opinions concerning other people having sex in SL, it says nothing about whether they think sex is important, it doesn't say anything else.

For some people, sex in SL is like writing hard-core romance or soft-core porn. It's not at all the same as RL sex, but it's nevertheless a very enjoyable, satisfying, and even constructive experience. Just look at all the romance novels on book store shelves.

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Romance novels are written for housewives that don't get any anymore.

SL sex is a substitute for the RL sex people aren't getting.

Do your thing but don't try to make it look like a noble, creative or otherwise worthwhile activity any more than some good old timey masturbating is.

I will admit there is debate about the poem and it's wording, but it served to illustrate my point. The OP said he did would not rally behind a cause in which he had no personal stake. I find that way of thinking to be foolish.

But I do make a distinction between personal action and government action.

How sad your life must be. To think that intimate relationships cannot and do not form in SL. That is what you are saying. Sex is about more than just physical attraction and having an orgasm. It is about being close to someone else's heart, mind and soul as well as their body. The first three can easily be touched in SL, so no it isn't just about masturbating.

Very true
But this poll isnt biased as much as its intentionally misinterpreted.

Why is ther a few people that are making a personal attack here? Calling a poll "intentionally misrepresented" Shame on you, no one forced you to vote. No one manipulated your vote, no one changed the items in the pole.

Your comments and personal attack are indeed griefing and against not only the forum rules, but against basic human decency... and for the records, I never stated my opinion on the matter, but already i have read where someone accused me of pushing my opinion. Rather than dicussing like mature adults the real actions of what residents do therefore deciding what the community should have, you spend your time attacking and crusading against what you believe to be intentional misrepresentation. I didnt make the results , we all did.

And you cant say your opinion differs from your actions, the two are innately related

Wow, you sure know a lot don't you?! I don't even know where to begin! I am a housewive, but I don't read romance novels...I read that shit when I was like 13. (Bad, I know.) And SL sex (FOR ME) is certainly not a substitute for RL sex! You have got to be out of your mind! Sometimes it can be an enhancer. And not everyone masturbates when they have SL sex.

No. actually the "rarely have SL Sex" is mostlikey composed of the "I tried it once" crowd and dont think they should be counted in with the SL sex addict crowd.

2 pro-sex choices and 2 not. "

That appears to me to be pushing your opinion. The debate here has been very adult. I haven't seen a true flame yet.

I am of the opinion that lobster is very good to eat. I rarely eat it due to cost. My actions do not support my opinion, so I guess I really don't like to eat lobster.

Jackson, if you can't handle people disagreeing with you, then you should not be posting in these forums at all. If you want to call a moderator in here to review what was said, be my guest.

I was objecting to what appeared to me to be a deliberately misleading poll, where the question (what do you *think*) and the answers (what do you *do*) were not in sync. Your behavior and intellectual dishonestly in subsequent comments has served to reinforce my suspicions. The idea that nobody could really care about something that doesn't directly affect them is utterly ludicrous, to my way of thinking.

Nope, I would think that just shows your taste in seafood doesnt match your financial budget. Niether does mine, and most other peoples

Also because you do communion at church 4 times a year doesnt make it less inportant , it just shows what your stance is on unmoderated sexual acts in SL... I mean , you do go to church dont you? or was that just a hypothesis.. I personally dont go to church myself. so Im not as vunerable to hogwash and hearsay.

What government? LL is a company seeking capital through creative means and they have made that obvious. They aren't required to act as a government...that's what the government's for.

What I find baffling is that people are spending so much time complaining and "speaking out" on "freedoms" in a computer game when there are ACTUAL freedoms IRL being restricted and encroached upon in your RL countries!!!

We have a restriction of LEGITIMATE freedom of speech with the FCC and the current issue with internet radio.

We have poor people being lured into the armed forces with the promise of free money and an education so they can go get maimed for a war based on lies.

These are just two issues. There are many more real issues you people could be learning about and speaking out against instead of crying that you can't have sex with a tied up child image and how a company wants you to have a sense of decency (as designated by them) when using their product that they ultimately have control over.

I don't necessarily agree with what's going on but I'm not about to get worked up over this bullsh@t when I know there are far greater injustices going on in the world.

Then why post here?

As for the government action. I believe that individuals can and should take stands on issues of principle. But governments should mind their own businesses outside of their own borders, Iraq, Bosnia, Darfur...........the list goes on and on.

Annie, you say you support gay rights even though your not gay, I merely said that I dont rally behind anything unless I have personal involvement in it, for this you deem me intellectual dishonestly?

And as far as people disagreeing with me.. huh? are you even reading the right thread, again, I will say,. I havent expressed my opinion about this matter so disagreeing with me when I havent made my opinion is kinda stupid, wouldnt you agree?

First off I didn't say "all housewives read romance novels to replace real sex" or "everyone who reads a romance novel is a housewife that does so to replace real sex". I was stating that this is the key demographic for romance novel publishers.

Secondly, I'm not judging people for participating in SL sex. Do your own thing! Just don't kid yourself by making it out to be anything more than cheap entertainment and a substitute for actual sex.

Please don't start that tired old line that the Military is made solely of poor uneducated yokels with no prospects elsewhere.I had a professor in Collge that was spouting that crap 10 years agao. It's an insult to all who have served. I won't question your opinions on the war, I probably agree with a lot of them actually, but don't insult people who choose to serve their country, no matter so the rest of us don't have to.

But you said that actions taken rarely show that an activity isn't important. All I am doing is using YOUR logic. You are the one who said that an answer of rarely means the person is against SL sex. I say rarely could be an indication of quality over quantity.

If you wanted rarely to mean "tried it and decided I didnt like it" exclusively you should have said so.

Put me in that category.

Okay, I guess I take it back. There is every reason to get worked up about fake sex on computers. LL isn't in fact a for-profit company but a government for the people so they really need to let us do what we want with their product.

*rolls eyes*

Who is to say I'm not doing anything else at the moment? These forums don't move that fast that I can't be reading anything else in between posts.

How many rich kids sign up for the service?

You can't deny that the current wars going on would be going COMPLETELY differently if Harvard kids were being sent abroad along with the rest of us.

And don't insult the socially/economically disadvantaged people in this country by assuming they're all uneducated yokels.
