It made even more uncomfortable. I like to know what Nolan meant with this comment. It requires an explanation. I can't speak for Nolan, but my take on it is this. You know goddam well what he meant, don't get all prissy on us now. If you need a ton of bricks to fall on your head to see that members in your group have it out to persecute "content barons" then I have less confidence in you as a group than in the first place. _____________________

You know, I KNEW someone would jump all over that comment. I really did. But I posted it anyway, because I am not going to let people who have no desire to do anything other than try to twist things to serve their group's special interest agenda.
I said "content Jews" because I find Prokofy's exclusionary rhetoric hateful, not to mention ironic being that he calls others "fascists". If it were up to him, content creators would be relegated to simply making things for the rest of the world. Much as the Jews were harnessed in WWII to support the war machine on many, many levels. Have we become so politically (over) correct that we can no longer reference the humilation of a group of people to make a point? _____________________

Not to speak for Anshe, but I'm pretty sure what she was getting at is that people who pay land tier (thereby helping LL pay their bills) subsidize basic accounts which cost LL more in bandwidth than they bring in from the one time fee. Pointing that out makes people uncomfortable, but It's not a value judgement. It's a simple statement of fact. I have a premier account and I pay tier fees every month, so Anshe has done nothing for me lately. So if she wants to say she's better than me, she can shove it. _____________________

I would like to add that it's become painfully obvious that Katy realizes that the opposition to this group she belongs to is quite large, and has now chosen to try and nitpick the words of those she is at odds with. In sports we call that "low blows". Call it what you will, it's pathetic and obvious.
I remember a time when Katy was a level headed SLer. The fact that she has teamed up with this lot of magpies is disappointing to me to say the least. _____________________

Hmm, while this does make some sense, 'land barons' are making a profit from obtaining and selling the land, one has to wonder if this really does effect Lindenlabs on the scale that I think Anshe Chung implied (Enough to give free and/or almost free access to SL)? Additionally if people wern't willing to obtain the land in the first place, 'land barons' wouldn't be making any money. Would anyone happen to have any figures to suggest that 'land barons' are infact *that* benefical to Lindenlabs? Or even possibly a theory with theoretical numbers to suggest that Lindenlabs really does benefit enough from this to justify the concept of being a 'land baron' as something good for Secondlife? Land barons feed off Second Life. Let's look at this properly. Linden Labs put land into second life. The Land barons then put money in. Then the people put money in, and the Land Barons take out a whole heap more money than they put in in the first place. So why doesn't LL go bust? Because the people put in so much money, it's enough to give the land barons a huge profit, and keep LL going. Really the land barons are a nuisance, as at the end of the day they just syphon money out of SL. It is the people as a whole who put it in. It is the nothings, the players, travellers and such who are 'worthless', who in fact are worth the most. _____________________

Anshe Chung began her Second Life by pretending to be functionally illiterate in the English Language. She worked as a 'instructor' teaching cyberists how to cyber. Somewhere along the line, she decided it better served her interests to speak/write English well, and, when that 'amazing transformation' occurred, people took note of the dishonesty explicit in using a bigoted/racial stereotype to dupe people.
If there is a finger to be pointed and a bigot/racist card to be dealt, then deal it before Ms. Chung, who, apparently, sees no issue with being bigoted or racist when it means she can hoodwink others. So, in summary, if you wish to know why people consider Anshe Chung poorly, it is simply because she has consistantly acted so and used the very base methods that offend to solicit sympathy. The theme and modus operandi continues even unto this day, wherein we find Anshe Chung once more attempting to hoodwink people into supporting her by pretending to have interest in community and helping others... when, in reality, she only wishes to garner more power for her own circumstance. _____________________

Aimee, I have only referred to the resort to the use of pigeon english and the posting of pictures intended to ridicule as racists acts. I never made any of the conclusions you draw. The posts were reported and I know the pigeon english ridicule was removed. Does everyone who was here during the land baron hysteria really forget the horrible ridicule directed at Anshe in the past. I will never forget how I felt when I read post after post composed by seemingly intelligent people, written in pigeon english wiht pure glee at the fun they had with tormenting her. I dont know Anshe very well, and you know what Aimee, I would not care if it was Anshe, or you, or even Nolan, if I saw an ethnic slur being delivered I will shout it out. Shout until its eradicated...and thank goodness there are people willing to step forward and stop bigotry. Whether the casue is racial, sexual orientation, political association, religious, no matter how unpopular the actor or the belief, we all have the right to exist and to co-exist without having to suffer discrimination and bigotry. I attended the meeting with the best of intentions to learn more about equal treatment in SL since that indeed is my PASSION in life. PASSION to which I have devoted my efforts since law school. I dont just talk it.. I live it.. and i do what I can to make it happen. It now seems clear that thie group can not effectively function to achieve the good objectives they defined and there is no reason to be associated with it to accomplish the goals of even handed treatment that I have long advocated. As a result, Jake Reitveld and I have decided to offer our skills and experience as advocates to help people in SL one on one to address such issues, without and group affiliation. I maintain my beliefs no matter how unpopular or controversial. My shoulders are strong and I can carry the weight of insult and pressure from those who disagree. Any member who has concerns related to a TOS/CS determination, especially as it relates to inequitable treatment, please IM either Jake Reitveld or me to set up a private confidentual appointment to discuss the matter.
