Why do cat's look like they are supremely pissed off when having sex?

It's a wonder they have managed to exploit Darwin's theory at all, if it is as painful as it looks...

You really wanna know? I think it all boils down to the one cat having mental images of the other being a dog perhaps?

Well, I didn't like the change to the auctions where only Sims could be auctioned. (And said so at the time.)

But Anshe didn't do that, the Lindens did.

I do have a feeling though that this was caused by the influence of 'land barons', however without a official statement from the Lindens on this matter, I guess we'll never know for sure.

From: Cocoanut Koala

And given that, who has the money to buy a whole Sim and then partition it off for the rest of us? I know I don't. I'm grateful Nexus Nash and Adam Zaius can do that and have built a wonderful place in Azure Islands, which is not only beautiful but growing.

I heard that before I came to secondlife, it was possible to buy land directly from Governor Linden, and it not being first land only.. For those.. quite reasonable first land prices...

New sims were auctioned (not entire sims) because people starved for new sims, as the secondlife wasn't exactly stable, and people wanting to escape from clubs and such.

But these are things I have heard, I don't know if they're infact 100% factual.. Although I have seen evidence on the forums that does reinforce some of it.

From: Cocoanut Koala

I didn't come into the game until February - before the auction change, but after there were already people renting out land and selling land as the middleman. I was able to basically "rent" my land from Nexus and Adam, before they bought the islands. Even though I was a basic member!

I'm curious, are these people considered by others 'land barons'? As I've never heard of them, so I really don't know anything about them.

From: Cocoanut Koala

And then, when I became a premium member, Garnet Psaltry owned the land next to my shop, which was at one point first land. I couldn't have bought it as first land, of course, but once she had ahold of it, it was easy for me to click on it and buy it. That too was a service to me!

Is Garnet a 'land baron' too? Again I've never heard of this person. *Starts to feel small*

From: Cocoanut Koala

So I fail to see how people providing a needed service - who are NOT responsible for the Linden's auction decision - are evil, anymore than I see real estate dealers in real life as evil.

Oh, I don't have a problem with 'needed' services, I just don't understand what's needed from the common practice of 'land barons'

And then I still wonder about some questions I had earlier about land barons:

From: Ash Qin

Hmm, while this does make some sense, 'land barons' are making a profit from obtaining and selling the land, one has to wonder if this really does effect Lindenlabs on the scale that I think Anshe Chung implied (Enough to give free and/or almost free access to SL)?

Additionally if people wern't willing to obtain the land in the first place, 'land barons' wouldn't be making any money. Would anyone happen to have any figures to suggest that 'land barons' are infact *that* benefical to Lindenlabs? Or even possibly a theory with theoretical numbers to suggest that Lindenlabs really does benefit enough from this to justify the concept of being a 'land baron' as something good for Secondlife?

When I tried to work out the math here on theoretical numbers. I really can't come up with the numbers that says that Lindenlabs will be at such a substantial loss, but then again this was theoretical, perhaps someone could come up with better.. math that would show otherwise.

From: Cocoanut Koala

I far more appreciate my land than I would somebody's nifty new outfit or vehicle, so as far as I'm concerned, these people are very valuable and do provide a service. Plus, it's not an easy job to do - I certainly wouldn't be interested in it or have the patience for it.

It might be stressful... But I still don't see how they really benefit anyone? I mean, they may assist you in buying land through them. But then again, this is something done for profit, and not out of good faith in my opinion.

From: Cocoanut Koala

And as I've said before, Anshe has never been anything but nice in my dealings with her, and that's a heck of a lot better than those on these forums who practically make an art form out of nasty.

Oh, I'm sure Anshe is a nice person and has a nice personality, but just because someone is nice to me, doesn't mean I will or won't condone certain practices performed. I mean, personality isn't exactly the issue here.

From: Cocoanut Koala

So - looks to me like the bad guys in this scenario are the ones who hate her. And think she's all these insiduous and calculating and wily and cold things. Nobody is perfect, and I'm sure she isn't either, but come ON - nobody deserves this sort of treatment, either.

As I've said, I don't hate her personally, just not very fond of her actions.

From: Cocoanut Koala

And want to boycott her and ruin her. That's just ridiculous. That's bloody horrid. That's nothing like this supposedly fun and lovely and loving and cooperative place everybody has going here. Fun and lovely and loving and cooperative - maybe. Unless they don't like you.

My problem isn't really todo with ruining her etc. It's todo with the fact that I see many residents paying high fees to someone, who isn't exactly giving them any additional benefits than if they were buying land directly from Lindenlab (like it used to be apparently). I mean, it's not like you can't use the 'live help' to get help with purchasing land or such if you needed help. It looks to me like people are forced to go through a 3rd party these days, just to pay a higher expense.

I feel it has a negative influence on the Secondlife society somehow because it's basically saying "Don't bother being innovative, or creative", because remember, the ones who are at the top, being succesfull in my opinion, aren't the fanatistic inventors or such in SL... It's the "land barons". I was a little disapointed when I learnt of land barons on Secondlife.. and found there was no real benefit to their land, or some great innovative ideas...

Cocoanut, I just want to make sure you know that I am really open to changing my opinion (as long as evidence or such could be provided it self that counter my own), and I just want to make it clear that I really don't have anything personally against Anshe.

I don't know what made me come off as a Anshe 'hater', but trust me I am not.

It's been stated and restated. Chip has the right read on this.

These people are self-serving. They make it painfully clear that they don't give a rat's ass about 95% of their fellow citizens. To throw out so-called positions about things like letting people know why they were banned is the equivalent of telling the peasants to just enjoy their cake and shut up. Anshe compared this group to Amnesty International. Now others are planting seeds that there is some sort of ACLU looking out for us.

It is utter bullshit. I grant anyone their right to form whatever group they want. My concern is that the Lindens are going to placate these people to the point where they will be recognized as the voice of the so-called non-casual player. I've said it a hundred times, I am comfortable and happy in our little dictatorship. I prefer to leave that in the hands of Phillip vs. having these clowns suddenly become an unelected town watch.

Very well said! I think we the citizens of SL, refused to accept this BS. We raised our voice loud and clear which culminated in the longest post by Philip, which I think alleviates the concern you raise in the second paragraph.

I especially find them comparing themselves to Amnesty International or ACLU, ridiculing rest of SL community. Really, what do they think, rest of us are just bunch of morons to be served, milked and ruled? The continued arrogoance of this group is truly appalling!

The others don't have the credibility to defuse bad will, nor the gumption to try (except perhaps Jauani).

my name popped up in a couple of posts about this group. the truth is i still don't know what this group is entirely about. i joined when it first started. it was initiated, i believe, as a response to the changes LL was proposing on the monetary exchange. i noted that there were some questionable officers and then left for vacation. so the reason i haven't spoken out is because i have no clue what this is all about and, since it is now a prok and coco show, i am kind of disinterested in reading the lengthy chat logs and forum discussions.

i was solicitated by an avenue for action, but it seems to be more about the quest for noteriety.

(To speak to all the things you brought up, I will number them.)

1. I think creativity isn't limited to making things out of prims or writing lines of punctuation marks that make scripting. And bear in mind I AM a content creator. With a store, and with sales on SLExchange and from the store. I make houses and items to go in them. I love to do it, and it's all I do.

But there are more kinds of creativity than just that. It takes a lot of creativity to develop a land business, to advertise it and all that, as well as monumental hard work. There is a great deal of creativity in running entertainment services, too. I used to run the Game Show Channel in TSO, and creativity abounded in that. There was setting up the lot, planning the games, and hosting the games. In television, they call the people in front of the camera the "talent." So that is creative as well.

Providing entry ports and services to newbies is creative, too, and also requires a special kind of talent. Basically, any way which anybody takes a certain set of available tools and makes whole businesses out of them is creative.

2. The land people DO provide a service. If they didn't, we wouldn't see their services utilized so much! Including before the auction changes - I haven't been around long enough to know the history of all this, but since I joined, they have certainly been useful to me. I already listed the ways in which I have relied on these people and their services for my own personal SL life.

One way I didn't mention is that these people can - through buying whole Sims - create integrated and beautiful communities for many to enjoy. Nexus Nash and Adam Zais do exactly that with Azure Islands. They make a real PLACE, and I would never be able to do that by myself.

They also make it possible for me to pay for where I live entirely in Lindens, rather than having to pay actual cash to Lindens with my credit card. That's another service I really appreciate.

All these are services which are needed by me, and apparently by a whole lot of other people as well.

3. I guess you could call lots of people "land barons," if it means buying lots of land and then selling (or renting) it to others. That would include Nexus, Adam, and Garnet, I would think. SL would not been nearly as enjoyable for me if they hadn't existed. They offer us lots more options, which are useful to many besides just me.

4. Something can be done both for profit and also out of good faith. In fact, most things are done just that way. This is true in SL and in the real world. Those who are not of good faith soon go out of business.

I make my houses and things for profit. But I also do them in good faith that I am making something I hope will enhance people's SL life and they will enjoy. There is nothing better than the feeling that somebody has bought something of mine to play with and they are loving and enjoying it! The same is true of my real life job, which I also do for profit, but have always, since I started long ago, viewed primarily as a service. (Writing articles.)

5. I am with you about separating out someone who is nice to me, someone I like, from their practices. But then, I'm a firm believer that people can remain friends - even good friends - despite having differences in several important ways. I generally say when someone does something I don't agree with.

6. I don't know how to explain it to you any better, really, but Nexus and Adam provide me with such wonderful things that I practically kill myself scraping up the Lindens to afford it. I sure wouldn't go to that trouble if I didn't greatly enjoy the very real services they provide me, in terms of having a lovely, vibrant, integrated, and interesting environment in which to live.

If you think these land barons don't provide benefits to their customers, I invite you to come tour Azure Islands and see what a wonderful place it is. Though I'm not a customer of Anshe, I've heard that her places are wonderful in the same ways. And like I said, people like Garnet make it possible for us to more easily and efficiently expand the land we do own outright, and allow the first-landers they buy it from originally to make a tidy profit.
