in a way its like NO KIDS because some are spoiled , brats , etc!! Though I think sl should make just like a section for kids only since if you look at games like final fantasy and WoW they have no age limit sooo I dont know! In a way they should let kids on just restrict them from areas and let the parents have a option to put filters and not be able to type and stuff like that though that takes alot of the fun away :0 but atleast if they have the option to no one should complain.

I think this is a bad idea. Think about it: bringing minors into SL could give parents to complain to the government, yet again, cause mom wasn't watching little Jimmy when he wandered into Mature areas. Government would then, of course, have SL moderated. That will take some more freedom from everyone else and might cut down some of SL's fanbase, for lack of a better term.
That's just one way to look at it.

Time to chime.

Hello, old thread, older news.

I'll post anyway -->

Many of you are mis- and/or un-informed about the situation you're discussing.

Firstly, there are seperate grids. the Teen Grid and Main Grid. You respond still to this forums as if you still are discussing a mere "possibility." I assure you.. the teens are far more than that. Teen Second Life is a reality. It has been for some months now.

Some of you know me:
I am the first "Teen" to transfer over from the TG, (legally at least) on my 18th birthday.

As of yesterday we had one more... the wave cannot be expected for a year or more, when all the 14-15 year olds make their way into SL "adulthood."

Moving on...

I will, with all due respect, say that In some ways the TG was more "mature" than the Main Grid. This is probably due to the fact that it is still a small community with everyone contributing (much like the SL beta days, I've heard, before everyone and their mother came prancing along ^.^)

Anyway, as you can see, I'm not some whiny child, nor some underdeveloped dolt. I have established myself on the Main Grid just as I had on the Teen. I will note, that the handling of my transfer on the part of LL was a bit rough, and facless, tossing me to the MG dogs to start my social life over again, In doing I lost my friends and my partner. Thankfully, Blue Linden, old softy that he is, helped me out. As well as Deana and Bub.

Anyhow. I can't say much for the quasi-point of us being immature, but despite my "starting-over" issue, I agree whole-heartedly with the idea of the TG (which is only 13 and up.) Becasue the MG is a very vile place for minors, and I would not like it very much If my child (as a hypothetical) was subjected to the sort of things that are able to happen and be witnessed here.

That said; it isn't all bad. I've made some amazing friends in the last few weeks, and have a home and a radio show, as well as a blog that needs updating, and a shop that needs goods to sell :P

Only downfall is, besides a few tech bugs they need to work out, permissions and "security" fetures, mainly... I'm not so sure if 13 year olds mingling with soon-to-be 18 year olds is such a healty sitaution on the whole. There are, however, as always, exceptions to every rule.

The TG is expanding rapidly, and soon the sense of community will be gone. Hopefully, with gambling and "explicitness" strictly against the rules, the sense of debauchery will not wash over the still-blooming social structure as it has in most wings of the Main Grid. That said, of course, kids will be kids, and will upload dirty pictures and animations soon enough, I'm sure. And LL is almost soley relying on individual Lindens and gossipy citizens to find out who did what.

Also, "adults" are already making alts to check out the TG, and "kids" are willingly turning themselves into LL so they are deported and not banned. It seems, by this, that the teens are taking the high-road on this one. And the adults can easily lead to more, and worse trouble by sneaking into the TG, than a minor ever could by entering the MG.

Anyhow. I'm dissapointed by the actual WHINING that went on in this thread, at last count the TG still had a pure, intelligent forum. But, I'm glad some of you lightened up about the way it would work. And most of you are wonderful intelligent folks, keep it up, we need you. Thank you for hearing me out.

Have a nice Second Life :D

I would be happy to have the place full of people under eighteen, if, as you say, it wasn't so adult-rated. But I'm glad to have the influx of those who have reached 18, though the influx is as yet, only two, lol.

I see it like this. There are already kids in Sl and you can normally spot them as it is. They are completel morons who like to run around and try to fuck everything that walks. I for one will definately be against allowing anyone under the age of 18 to join this game. And honestly why stop there. an 18 year old "man" is about as intelligent as a man running with an egg in his hand aimed for his face straight at a wall.... doesn't make much sense. No offense to any 18 year old "men" . Maybe it's best just to keep the game as it is.

Concurrence.

This thread must be one of the oldest ones that's even moderately active-- it was started two years ago.

"Age does not make you a man."

Please note:
The Teen Grid was far more tame than the Main Grid.
Give them some credit.
We grew up online.
We know how to act.

It's the 30 year olds that think they own the joint that are the real problem. ^_~

I wonder if this thread will die once they realize they are riding a dead horse :D
Far be it from me to let this die without the last word.
But, I diress.
I am a windbag.

Have a nice day >:D

hahahahahaha

hahahahhahaha

hahahahahhahaha

*Mother of two teenagers dies from hysterical laughter.*

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Some teenagers know how to act - Others dont

I dont even trust some of my kids friends to check their Email.

Simply "growing up online" does not somehow change someone enough that they act right becuase of it. Growing up online only means that if they want to get away with something they will be better at it.

Yes its true some adults dont know how to act. - But we get to make adults responsible for their own actions. Plus one main concern of parents and the internet is Adults acting badly towards their children.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again - as has been stated in the past they will keep the Adult Grid and Teen grid seperate - there was an issue they didnt keep them "Seperate enough" but they have alleivated that, I beleive.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For all the necroposters in times future - PLEASE READ THE REST OF THE DARN THREAD BEFORE YOU POST.

It always seems someone just reads the title and immediately chooses to lip off.

Please note my big old *wink* at the end of that ^_^

Just for fun, I'll split hairs. We *know how to act.* Some just don't practice what they know to be acceptable online-behavior. ^.^

But, to clarify, I meant, we can behave insofar as any mention of being a jack-ass in forums, and respecting other peoples opinions... Not necesarilly that there aren't going to be a few bad impressions made along the line. There are, after all, exceptions to every rule.

--

Also, as I've tried to dive home, we policed ourselves. Expression is expression and it will be done in any form available, and you know us kids. We do what we want when we want. The trick is to respect us enough to trust us to be upstanding citizens, before you (in general) go an assume we (in general) are going to walk into town and muck it all up.

This exchange will be give and take.

And, due note, I am also guitly of generalizing the good, just as some of you are guilty of generalizing the bad.

I don't know If there is anything I havn't adressed in some form or another... and thankfully there were some more posts by *mature* posters, in a respectable manor, and not so much of the "NONONO!!1!oneone!omg!" That disapointed me when I read this thread.

-Good day.
