just wanted to say a public congrats to Armath!!! i've yet to find out if he's going by the same name over here in the Main Grid, but he's the first transfer from the Teen Grid over to our world in the Main Grid!! he has a rather interesting tale.. Armath's blog tells the story short and (bitter-)sweetly. Armath, if you happen upon these forums/this thread.. welcome to the Main Grid! i hope you find as much enjoyment here as you did in the Teen Grid! and hey, now you'll have time to acclimate yourself and find a place to settle in.. a place for two maybe? (for when Murr can come join you ) - Edit: Armath is a member of SecondSpace as well. easy to find him via the link below.. feel free to come take a peak at his posts.. he's an intelligent fellow!

We need a ceremony. I suggest a traditional tossing into Mount G'al whenever someone graduates into the MG.

not a bad idea, blaze!
apparently, there was a grid-wide party for him on the TG.. and i agree, we need a celebration of some type to welcome him to the "MG". (hmm.. maybe we can use those initials the next time we try to come up with a name for the mainland?)

(temporarily put black hat back on) From: someone name for the mainland
I'm afraid Buster Peel's name "Purina" will be forever stuck in my head. (now back to white-washed blaze spinnaker)

Jeez, that's so sad... Armath was only in there for 1 month, and he(?) already has a girlfriend and a ton of friends that he's leaving... it'll only get worse and more sad for people to graduate. It's nice and such that he's "graduating" to the main grid, but look at what it does to his social life in SL. He has to start over completely, and wave goodbye to all of his friends for who knows how long.

From: Aimee Weber Reminds me a lot of when I went off to college. Armath himself said it felt like leaving school.. hehe and Lex, you've got a point.. yet, it can end up being a positive as well. for Armath, he'll be able to make some new friends and get acclimated to the MG for awhile before the next transfer. once someone else comes over, he'll be the perfect liaison-type of friend for them. just by happenstance, Armath has already become a significant figure in SL history, bridging the TG and MG. by virtue, he'll be able to become a pivotal figure in the lives of many TG > MG SLers. he may be leaving friends behind, but they'll be here eventually. and when they get here, they can meet Armath's new friends. it looks as if the TG was an incredibly smart move, priming new residents before they reach MG age.. which could herald a more cohesive world overall. welcome, Armath! (and look out for that Mt. G'al.. lol)

And here I was always sort of curious if they were going to provide an interim period where people who aged out of the teen grid would be able to pop back in to visit. Guess that answers that...
At risk of starting a cliche, welcome to Selmaggia.

From: Aimee Weber Reminds me a lot of when I went off to college. Yes, Aimee. First off, I have have seen that Aimee Clone expose ^_^ Second, I am here. And it *was* a lot like the night of graduation. Fun party and all, but terrible because you knew youd never see these people again. Theres a time in life when "forever" seems like nonsence. It's a nice thought though. I'm glad you guys liked my "Fetid Inner Linden" thing. Bub's a dirty old man with a heart of gold. And a core that is feted Thanks Cybin, For giving me my own Thread. And thanks for getting me over 170 blog hits in about 14 hours. @_@ Look me up, guys... There is nothing for me here. Make that change. You are all on my cool list. Except that volcano sacrifice guy. It's time for the New Mutants to take over. (that is almost an inside joke.) --sig-- SL Screensmith Tales: A Quest for Oddities and Inspiration.Feel free-- no.... feel OBLIGATED to leave a comment ^_^

Welcome to the MG, just remember though, some of your friends will follow you here and you'll be a welcoming committee. Won't that be cool?

As has been mentioned, Armath, many of your friends will be following in your footsteps and making the transfer in the future. You get the distinct pleasure of being their link to the MG when it's their turn. And .. by the way? Welcome!

Welcome to the main grid, Armath! And I have this feeling, you will be seeing some of your friends again. Its only a matter of time, and who better to mentor them once they get here than you

The grass WAS greener.
07-26-2005 00:52
From: Blueman Steele he'll take one long look at the main grid and want to go back BEFORE I RANT: I will say THANK YOU to the people who have welcomed me. Anyone that gave me a gift for no reason, or randomly IMed me to say "Weclome." or "Happy Birthday." Thank you for trying. HERE I GO: Not to insult all of you who make a living in the main grid... But so far all it has offered me is gambling, violence, and pornography. Why am I paying for that? If thats what I wanted... The Internet is full of that... What I wanted was a sense of community. I had that in the Teen Grid. It had its flaws, and its future ahead.. But it would retain this innocence... because gambling, violence, and pornography are all strictly controlled... The Teen's economy would be based on skill, not spectacle. It would remain as rivalry, not competition. Maybe my views are off because I'm still adjusting... But the most fun I've had with SL is when I just sat and bs'ed with my friends. Now all of my friends are taken away from me. I'm very grumpy. I do not like it here. I DO want to go back. -->See my next post. I have broken them up, forum ethics would not allow me to create post that long without killing myself and destrying the internet.

The following post is addressed to LINDEN LAB. CC any Linden who happens to read it.
07-26-2005 01:01
Yes, this is rather lengthy. PLEASE read ALL of the following. It is not FLAME, nor TROLL, nor SNERT, RANT, or SPAM. It is something I implore you to read, regardless of your ability (or lack, thereof) to control it. --Here we go-- There is something to be said to Linden Lab. Excellent job with the Teen grid. But, my opionion of the Main Grid is low. LindenLab, knows the same rule as any entity that creates a world... Give your people free will, and they will f*ck it up. Perhaps you should very much consider some way for a PG-13 community to exist. Where people who are still part of their peer group can still co-exist. I don't think you (or I) realized how utterly brutal it was to tear someone away from the world they are used to. And why? Because I happened to "grow-up" before my social circle did. At the VERY LEAST I request the ability to retain calling cards. Why is it wrong for me to speak with the people you've taken from me? But, I digress. What choice did you have? You could do nothing but play God. I understand that adults mingling with "young people" is a recipe for legal disaster. I understand that there are some sorry fellows that would choose to use this tool you have given to us to do horible things. This change hits me especially hard. Speaking as the first transfer to the MG. Speaking as a child who has moved away from many dear friends. From a young man who moved away from his home after his freshman year of highschool. And speaking as the young adult who has just graduated from highschool... I have been taken away from too many of my friends. This Impact is sickening. I am aware that there are near infinite ways to contact the people I know from the TG. The principle is that we (I, and those who follow me from the TG) have been, and will be, ripped from the community we know. SL is not AIM. SL is not Myspace. SL is not Gmail. SL is a Second Life. A chance to be who we want, to do what we want, and to *suspend disbelief* wherever we have the chance. SL is Expression. And to transfer is like destroying a SL. The Main Grid is like learning to walk again; without you parents holding your hands, and with sharp corners to crack your skull on. It is not the same. It will be hard for others, I expect. People form bonds in your world. Why must you break them? I dont know why I care so much. Maybe it's because so many people have made such a big deal out of my transfer. Maybe it is because my SecondLife is giving me a more rewarding and fruitful experience in little under a month than Rea Life has given me in 18 years. Perhaps it is because I can actualy contirbute in SL. And I am addicted. This whole ordeal is putting me off of SL. It isnt the home it was in the old days. You know... WAAAAAYYYYYY Back on July 23, 2005. igh: The good old days. I'm going to try to work through this. -- LL, Congradulations. You have created life. But you still have the power to destroy it.

Uhm, well, er... Welcome to the Main Grid? (Looks sheepish) Oftentimes being The First means you get to fall the farthest...
I'd be surprised if this scenario wasn't discussed by LL -- it's hard not to see the ugly side of the MG, and you'll see plenty of coverage of that in the forums. (Just do a search here on "for sale signs" if you've got days to kill reading ancient history.) But sometimes the only way to figure something out is to take your best shot, see how it goes, and if it went wrong fix it.
You will find community in the MG, I assure you. And not just forum junkies/trolls. I'm sure you can see that for yourself, there's just the small matter of this gaping wound in the way right now. Give it some time, and lets see if LL can't do or hasn't done something about those calling cards for when others make the transition.

No more perch attop the giant Oceanview tower. All of my *hot items* from the TG have already been done to death here. I realize that the above (ginormous) posts make me sound like a whining child who's gotten his toy taken away from him. I do feel this way.... It seems this way, and I seem like a windbag every time I post a damned essay in a forum. I'm having more fun interacting with people on the boards than I am trying to *find* people in-game. I realy do hate being alone. I have issues. I'm just trying to make a point the only way I know how. Rambling.
