Near the end of the town hall Philip mentioned that LL is looking seriously at ways to include those under 18 in Second Life. After he said it nearly everyone at my repeater location yelled "NO!" and worse. ;)
If LL wants to use the technology to support a seperate client of some kind, maybe with a different name entirely that those under 18 could use, that's fine. But, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not allow minors in the real SL world.

LOL, nice parody of the earlier post about sex in SL, are the boards always this amusing or just when SL is having connection issues? Going to try to log in now... though it seems all the humor is on the boards lately ;]

It's not a parody - this one was posted 10-01-2004 and the sex one was posted yesterday.

"When Second Life comes back up later today, you'll be asked to read and agree to a revised Terms of Service. There are two primary changes:"

First, we've revised Section 2 to allow people aged 13-17 to participate in a restricted area of Second Life, currently known as the Teen Grid. This change is in preparation for a test of a version of SL especially for teens. The Teen Grid is not yet widely available -- we plan to begin a test by invitation only very soon. The test region will be completely restricted from the main grid. More about that to come.

Just like I said yesterday. So if I disagree you gonna give me a refund? You gonna give me my user created content?

best behavior

it would get them into SL, but there would be a portion of SL they could not access because they are flagged as minors by the system.

adults would be on good behaviour when entering G sims, and I can assure you that we all will. Why? because despite being immature, minors will make some of the craziest stuff. they will have the patience and aptitude to master prims scripts and textures in degrees most adults do not have time or stamina to.

What about the ones that wont be on their best behavior. What about the ones with a "child fettish" Umm Thanks but no thanks. I agree kids could probably do things we can't master (yes I just NOW learned how to make clothes :P) but is it worth their innocence to make a name and some money for yourself. (Careful what you wish for LL) I think LL should make a completely different game specifically for teens to do the things we do but without the things that we dont want them exposed to here. Let them be "themselves" in their own game. ANother note, innocence.. Yes some of them still have it. I know alot of them already are in a bad way but do we want to encourage them? If they are already like this the likely hood that they have a positive role model is nill so MAYBE JUST MAYBE we should give them a place that they can be themselves.. Just NOT here. (not trying to offend anyone *hugs*)

Hi Catherine,

I'm not sure what your specific concern is about the modified TOS, but if you do not want to agree to them and cancel your account, please contact Support to discuss the details of that process.

Just a reminder...accusing or calling someone a "pedophile" in the forums isn't appropriate. That falls under "personal attack" and will be dealt with as such.

Thanks.

My specific concern as stated above is that I feel I will lose everything I have in SL if I do not agree to the new TOS. Why not just avoid all of this and put the kids on their own grid. Why does this even need to be an issue? I don't understand LL decision to do it this way. Why even involve the adult grid. I don't get it.

Wait, I am so confused. I am about 99.99% certain that the plan *IS* to put the kids on their own grid. Am I missing something the Lindens said otherwise?

Yup they are putting them on our grid in a restricted area.

It should be ok tho I mean no one from our grid ever got into a restricted area or anything wild like that.

Nolan the problem I am having is if it doesn't apply to the main grid or to me as an adult then why do I have to agree to it before I can log into 1.6.
The only thing it does is make me assume that the kids will be on the main grid tbh.
Hugz ya back thanks for talking this out with me.

I agree with Cat - if I have to click through the TOS than the language does effect me. What i read is that LL reserves the right to have restricted Teen areas in Second Life. No separate Teen Grid has been spelled out and that concerns me also.

So they can't get out, you can't get in (like Robin said).

So is your concern is more technical? Like the little rascals could grief the grid and the results could spill over onto us? Something like that? I am still not sure what your grievance is.

Wha?? I thought the whole reason it's called the "Teen Grid" or "Kid Grid" is because it's their own grid??

And if it is on our grid, yet totally inaccessible by IMs, TP, etc...to the rest of SL, what would the difference be?

Yes this is exactly my question. Thats why I figured Cat's complaints were based on technical conerns rather than cultural.

Nope. I know what would help. Explain a worst case scenario that would make you regret clicking "I AGREE" button on the TOS as it's currently written. I think that would clear it up for me.

TeenGrid is a SEPARATE GRID.

Not a private island...not linked to the current grid. It is completely separate.

TeenGrid. Is. A. Separate. Grid.

Hope that's clear. :)

There have been ppl who have in fact made it to the LL restriected areas James Miller for one if my memory serves me correctly. More so I do believe he even posted pics of his adventures in these foums. Eggy aslo comes to mind as someone who went where no av has gone before but I could be wrong on Eggy. Anyone remember that far back? Anyone care to dig up the links?

What's not to agree with? All the new section says is:

*Adults can't open a teen account.

*Teens can't open a "standard" adult account

*Teens can't have a Teen Grid Account without consent from a parent or guardian who's also read and accepted the TOS.

For us, the new section about the Teen Grid makes it a TOS violation for an adult to sign up for a Teen Grid Account. What's not to agree with?

:) that i would agree to but that is not what I read last night after downloading the 1.6 patch. Read back up in this thread for the exact quote.
