From: Katja Marlowe By God, it did work....*scratches head* I swear I tried it before....must try this again...thanks Fiona! I managed to FINALLY log in.... only to find both bars in the red and MAJOR lag... to the point I was unable to fly. I saw 1 other person on nearby, attempted to walk over and see if they were lagging as bad as me, and crashed... now I can't get back on ~blah~ I don't have the patience others do to try over and over for hours, I give up on this today.. it's not worth the effort.

Tuesday huh?

This problem seems a bit more like a "Work on it 24/7 till it's fixed, not a "We will eventually get to it". Given the amount of money people pay to play this game, not being able to log in and play when we want to is unacceptable. Occasional issues are to be expected, but this has been ongoing longer than I have been playing. Efforts so far seem appeasement based as opposed to real solutions.
Apologies are nice to a point, however in the business world (yes this is a game to us, but a business to them) your excuses would run thin real fast without results behind them. I would expect if everyone decided not to pay their account till it was fixed, you would fix the issue in a timelier manner.
It is not my computer clock stopping me from connecting, maybe your NTP server isn’t working and your clocks are wrong.

Added myself and my $200/mo to the SL users union. As long as this group stays civil (not that shouting badgering childish picket line BS) and businesslike, I think it's a great idea. BTW folks, the auto log off after 30 minutes of inactivity is currently broken, so I was able to finally get in last night and just stayed on while I slept so I didnt have to battle logins again this morning. Worked great *note I think they're fixing this tuesday so jump on it while you can*

I have now been playing SL for 14 months. In that time, major issues such have this have happened only a few times. This is a more reliable service than my ISP, which is British Telecom, and they certainly don't refund me for downtime, because it's carefully written into the terms of service that they don't. This is because that due to the very nature of the technology we are using it is impossible to guarantee a service. Surely anyone who has used a PC for more than a month should realise this?
Computers are not god, and their programmers certainly aren't. If you want a miraculous standard of service I suggest you tithe to TBN and watch the Benny Hinn show.

inactivity logout and SLUU

Worked great *note I think they're fixing this tuesday so jump on it while you can* Yes, Synergy, the inactivity logout has been broken for almost a week now. I discovered it early last week when I forgot to log out one night. As for the SLUU it looks like you would be a good candidate to be an officer in the group. We'll be opening the election of five officers Wednesday evening. When the election is completed all of the current temporary officers will resign. We want to be a business like group. So far we have defined three immediate goals we would like LL to agree to: 1. Compensation for down time during this period. 2. A promise that bug fixes will take priority over new features. 3. Expansion of the phone support hours to 9 PM PDT, 7 days a week. Right now there is no phone support during the busiest hours. See you Wednesday and I hope you'll consider running for an officer spot.

Impossible to guarantee a service?

LOL *chortles* Planes sometimes fall out of the sky, sometimes your ISP goes down, sometimes the washing machine doesn't rinse clothes properly and sometimes you can't login to SL. The joys of computing.

not happy

I too am having this login problem, and it's just not good enough. I agree with the above:
1. Compensation for down time during this period.
2. A promise that bug fixes will take priority over new features.
3. Expansion of the phone support hours to 9 PM PDT, 7 days a week. Right now there is no phone support during the busiest hours.
Anything else just does not justify the money I am spending (wasting over the last week) on SL

I appreciate your viewpoint Jinny, but can't agree that it's impossible to guarantee service. I guarantee my clients service. If I don't fulfill what I say I'll do, I don't charge. My ISP, while it doesn't refund for downtime... very rarely has downtime. And if they were to have significant downtime, I know that a call into central would get a credit, because they put the customer first.

*bangs head against wall repeatedly and chants* Must remember not to LOG OF FOR ANY REASON! I can get in, but it takes an uber long time. So, if I get the stupid, "Cannot teleport at this time, please reconnect." I'm just going to fly wherever I need to get. Urrrrgggghhhh!!!

From: Raven Lehane I just hung again using a tp but logins are getting faster. Probably just because there's less traffic now.
But before anyone goes tiering down or giving up completely why don't you join the group Second Life Users Union. We're trying to get enough people together so we can negotiate with the Lindens with some strength. We're having an organizational meeting Wednesday at 6 PM PDT. If you give up and abandon your land the Lindens don't care. They'll only resell it.
If we can get a well organized, large group of us together we can get their attention. I pay $75 USD a month and they don't give a rats ass about me. But if we can get together a group where we can say we pay in total $5000, believe me, they'll listen. Uh, actually... they might not. I spoke to one user here who pays them $35,000US a month. If they don't listen to HER... There is a dangerous corporate mentality that is going throughout the US these days (dare I say the world?). I won't state that Linden Labs HAS this mentality (but it appears to its users to have such). The mentality forgets that the customer is paying the bills. It believes, "So what if we lose this client? We'll just get another one." It's a mentality that thinks it knows more about the cutomer's needs than the customers themselves. It manifests itself especially in companies having plenty of funds to work with-- that get to believe they no longer need the customer paying $19.95 a month. Ebay has that mentality. Micro$oft has that mentality. Does Linden Labs? I don't really think so... but it's sure showing symptoms. It's a bad mentality, it's destroying the business world, it's putting lots of bucks in the pockets of a few people and it's frustrating customers and forcing them to accept poor service. It's increasing customer rage and dissatisfaction levels. The concept of giving the customers what they want is long past and has been replaced by "doing anything to increase shareholder dividends"-- and it's hurting Amercian businesses. While I'm standing on the soapbox and before someone pushes me off... one more comment ... No, some users out here don't write software, so they don't know what it's like to try to make a program bug-free. They do however, know what it's like to be a customer feeling like they're getting shafted. It's not the customer's responsibility to sympathise with the service provider. It's the service provider's responsibility to provide what it's being paid to provide. This is simple business-- people are paying for service and they're having continual problems with that service. They're not expected to commiserate with the plight of the programmer. This hasn't been going on for just a few days. It's been going on for weeks... for months. It's a continual pattern and it needs fixed. Sorry if that causes LL stress. Comes with the territory. That's why they're paid the big bucks instead of $4.95 a month.

This is unreal........
Does this log in problem only happen durring busy times? or is it a random thing?
Took like 3 hours to get on yesterday, and it would really suck if it took three hours again today, WTF?

Took like 3 hours to get on yesterday, and it would really suck if it took three hours again today, WTF? Historically, it's not this bad, it's intensified because it's an event in the present -- when it's passed we'll be all like "WHEWWW" until the next one -- and while it happens during busy times, it's not a random thing.
In my eight months of being here (gosh did I never think I'd get to the point of saying this, but it's arrived), the major downtimes have definitely been fierce but few. Have you already read the Announcements with more info too?

Can't Log In at all!
05-15-2005 12:17
I can't log in at all - this is not a slow log in - Sl just crashes- sometimes with an error message sometimes not. I've uninstalled and re-installed but the same problem. Clearly there's a major problem here, given that other users are having the same sort of problems, so why not indicate this more clearly? The SL Status page just states "The Grid is open" how about a bit more info, like "the grid is open but there are major log-in problems"? While I sympathise to a certain extent with Linden Labs for the problems they're having, they MUST remember that we are paying customers, not just "co-creators". Please communicate more clearly!

It's a continual pattern and it needs fixed. Sorry if that causes Linden Labs stress. Comes with the territory. I don't write software, but I am actually aware of how hard it is to create bug-free ones. I have no issues with the bugs that crop up, because what works in simulation doesn't always work under stress. I'll put up with glitches and bugs, as long as I have the support of the staff when I need it and the feeling that I have some recourse if something really does go wonky. I've quit other sites when they failed to live up to the support end of the deal, one of which I'll gladly name, Neopets. An account frozen for cheating in a game that was glitched and a slue of complaints.. and not one account unfrozen from their error. Why should they care? They'll just get more people suckered into it to keep their profits going. So far, the Lindens have at least acknowledged the errors and are hopefully trying to fix them. And while I am frustrated that this outfit I created might not see the light of day until tomorrow, I am surely not going to give up until I feel that they aren't living up to the "support" end of the issue. *grins* It's not like I'm worried that all my stuff will be gone when I log in!

I was able to get on early this morning with no problems. When SL wouldnt teleport me, i like an idiot, relogged, or should i say tryed to relog. Now its been at least a few hours and nothing. I've wasted a good part of my sunday, trying to log in. I am so fustrated, I am considering checking out there and seeing what that is like, although i do not own a grand piece of land, i still pay out $40 a month, and should be able to log in along with everyone else who cant log in.
Does it seem like the log in problems are when more people are apt to be online? If so, is it possible the SL server isnt able to hold all the residents of SL at one time? So maybe its first come first on

/3/1.html This is definitelly getting bad.........I've been here over a year and I have never seen it like this. I said earlier in this thread that I only post here when the game won't let me log in, and I've probably made at least 5 posts in the last two days. Just hope they fix it soon, a lot of people have a lot of money tied up in this game. Its almost like the stock market not letting people log in, lol. I wonder if this is affecting the value of the Linden $................

From: Fabala Snakeankle *cries* 35,000USD???? Wish I had that kind of money! *shrugs* Oh, well. I'll settle for just being able to log in. Yes this does seem tied to the fact that the more people try to log in.. the more they can't. So, if you get a connection, just hang on to it for dear life! Added: I'd almost rather have the downtime!!! This is annoying!!!
