From: Raven Lehane Whoever told you they were paying $35,000 a month in land usage fees was blowing smoke big time. If you look at the leaderboard, the largest landowner on SL owns a little over 3.8 sims. That's $780 per month. In fact if you add all of the top 10 landowners property, they pay land useage fees of less that $6,000. Raven, There are several people in SL that own lots of private sims. When you are finally able to get back in, check out the world map and look at the mini continent at the north of the map. Those sims are all owned by one person. And she has just as much land, if not more, on the mainland. I don't know if the $35,000 figure is correct, but she (and others like her) are paying thousands, if not tens of thousands of US$ a month to LL. In addition, any private sim comes with either a $995 US setup fee from LL or a sales price of at least half that from a private sale.

Thank you Torley

From: Torley Torgeson For all of you new to the Forums -- and perhaps SL as well -- who are experiencing login problems, and want to know what's going on, PLEASE READ THIS, LOTS OF INFO:
/invalid_link.html
Don't worry. It's not just you. It's affecting the whole SL community. I have been going nuts trying to login. But the links you provided helped me not be so frustrated. I was able to take a look at the problem and see the reasons why there is a problem. Before I didn't know if anyone was working on it or not. Thanks for posting that.

You're most graciously welcome, Hiro. It IS nutty -- it helps to know more information about what's going on, for sure.

I just find the whole "hey if you don't like it, leave." mentality some people here have rather amusing. I've got a new line I like:
You can't leave if you're not there.
It's not like I'm bitching or whining about such and such rule, or hey why can't I have huge pr0n pics in a PG area?!? etc etc. It's simple: SL's down, I'm paying money for something I'm not getting, and NO EFFORT is being done to refund that.
Oh but I guess complaining is just going to make all the programmers at SL quit and then we won't have it anymore. Pfft.
C'mon Lindens ... time to cough up some refunds or produce some logins.

You know all over the place I see comments about delays and Lindens saying be patient it may take a few minutes. Well last night it took me 5 hours today I have crashed every time I made it in game usually after hour wait to get in when I needed to tp, btw, I had no attachments on. As I am typing this I am waiting to get back in yet again this time going on hour number two. Not sure where they are getting the "few minutes delay" comments.

This kind of reminds me of the "Pre Internet" Days when all we had to conenct to was a BBS using a Telnet program in DOS, The BBS only had 10 phone lines so thats all could be on at a time and we would sit and stare at the telnet program hopinh to get that one open connection before anyone else heheh

i have tried for hours to log in and it is time to call it a night. i have done numerous chores around the house in the 4 1/2 hours i have tried getting into the game. Last night i stopped at and earlier hour. The game is no longer a game when it becomes this frustrating.
...but i sure wish i was there working on the house with my Master, who somehow managed to get in!

Look, people, the last time we had a prolonged blackout like this, LL gave everyone affected a refund. Who's to say they won't now? They just can't do so RIGHT NOW because the service you want them to refund is still not working RIGHT NOW. Didn't any of your parents ever teach you that patience is a virtue?

I'm sure the TOS has verbage to account for this downtime and trying to get a rebate. If you read Phillip's explanation its pretty evident that the system is overtaxed and they are trying to keep pace by fixing bugs and redesigning at the sametime. One tough task. To think there is a workaround or a fix tommorrow is incredible. I bet the local Starbucks is getting heavy duty coffee orders if they aren't taking coffee intravenously lol.... As in all cutting edge technology there will be periods of disruption. Get used to it. Get a glass of wine, pay attention to your kids or go give that significant other a BIG OLE SLOPPY KISS!
Cheers Octane

Pure luxury! My board (the CoDominium BBS) only had one node, at 9600 BAUD. And we loved waiting 24 hrs to get 30 more turns so we could whoop each other's ass on TradeWars. I couldn't afford one of those fancy serial port multiplexers. Ahh, those where the days, when it was still novel to chat with a friend in realtime using a UNIX-y chat function on a BBS... When FidoNet (or WWIVnet or even UUCP) was the only way to send email between a bunch of BBSes. And when Xmodem would pad out your binaries to the nearest 128-byte block...

The same person would have to own almost every private island out there. I guess we aren't looking at the same continent. It is the one with Midgard and Friesland in it. Doing the math not only includes the $195/month fee for private sim maintenance, but the purchase of a couple of those (or more) a month at $995 each. It also includes the $195 a month for each 65,000sm owned on the mainland. This person probably owns at least 20 sims worth of mainland land if not more. Then there is the cost of the mainland land from the auctions, which are paid to LL. I have not checked lately, but full sims used to go for between $1300 and $2000US. You can look at the winning auctions for the last month and see how much was spent by people. Again, was the $35,000 number a good one? Probably not, but it wasn't my number. Are there people who can spend $10,000 or more with LL a month. You betcha.

Well I got on finally! But I couldn't do crap. I couldn't fly any where outside of the sandboxes. It would just 'warp' - not teleport, me back to the sandboxes. It's crazy, mad, fun!!! I couldn't wear anything - so that leaves my projects out. And there was only one sandbox where I could walk - the other two had like a invis. shield that kept knocking me back. I love this game, but this is getting really f-cking old....

Same thing happened to me a few times yesterday and once today. I'm suspecting it could be due to dowm sims. Anyway, tp is very unstable the last few days. I'm trying to use in only if I have to. I've even hung up in it twice and had to relog. But at least the latest attempt only took an hour to relog. LOL

The release notes have been updated. The last two items should help with the log in problems, and there are other internal changes that haven't been listed. /3/e5/46653/1.html#post495899

I'll first say that I've not logged for at least a month - redownloading helped in that situation. I'd say not try it unless you're a month or more from logging on.

well I got on for about 15 minutes, about 3 minutes was spent at my land, than there was a event i go to and it was time for that. I thought i was smart and instead of teleporting there, i decided to fly. Omg what a nightmare. My flying only put me into SL hell, with nothing but invisible barriors around me, i couldnt touch the ground, than it kept saying i was over someone land with a security system, but no matter how far i flew .. according to the map i made it to my destination 2x but according to the screen i was still over this persons land lol, i also made it back to my land according to the map, but according to the screen was stilll over this persons property lol, i ended up after about 15 minutes having to close SL and well never got back on. That was at about 4:15 pm eastern time and it is now, 12:34 am ET. Hahahaha, this sucks, well i can say i did get 3 good minutes in since i tried to relog at noon
