Alan,

while AC has certain Admin rights on those sims since she bought them, she does not pay land useage fees for the land on that continent that she has sold to others. Those others have to pay the land useage fees.

Just to clarify. :)

I did not know that. I thought that land on private sims was not actually transferable and the sim owner still held title to the land and the fees were paid to them, which were then paid to LL by the sim owner.

This still has to suck a lot for the people who are land brokers. One of the finer points of making money that way is to artfully manage your prices against when tier payments are due. If anyone of those had their tier date over the weekend, they are stuck with paying the tier for another month. I guess extended downtime has to be factored in as a cost of doing business in SL.

Should we spam the forums with our logs each time we crash, like they so kindly ask to do?

Is there any new information about how this problem will be resolved?
05-16-2005 14:40
Obviously the update didn't do it. Or is it just all of us trying to get back at once?

I am sure the Linden staff is working really hard, and I appreciate that. There does come a point though, when one must remind that this is a business relationship. We pay money, in some cases a lot of money, to have access to a service. But we don't have access.

I know it's not their fault, but it's not my fault either, and after nearly a week of not being able to really enjoy Second Life, I am eager to hear what the solution will be, and if Second Life has an idea for making up for this week of service that is so so far below the usual enjoyable experience?

Calix Metropolitan, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

2. If you are trying to post, your Second Life account may no longer be active, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

UHHH...WTF? lol...this is a joke right...clearly this isnt a mongoose either.

Well here's 1.6.5 and guess what....It's just as bad or worse!

What bug fix?

You know what's funny? You never have any difficulty getting the money out of my account. I've instructed my banking institution to send you an error next time you try to take my money!

I know how frustrating it could be for you if my payment doesn't go through, but please be patient. I am working diligently and whole-heartedly to make these funds available to you as soon as possible however, as you can understand, the vast amount of other people trying to take my money is causing severe lag on my resources. I would suggest just being patient and keep trying! :D

No log in
05-16-2005 14:42
After three days of not being able to log in i got a message to contact support about it--and they only directed me to this forum. The update installed this morning, and I still can't log in.
Now I only have a basic membership because I was having so many problems I wanted to work them out before I upgraded. And just when I was ready to do that so I could own my own land--now this. Apparently the crash logger has no problems phoning home, but I am out in the cold. Guess I changed my mind about upgrading. Think I'll save my rl $ for the next great game that I'm sure someone somewhere is busily designing.

Well I agree sorry is a good start but certainly not a complete explanation. -Wyvme Karuna

CEO/Founder, Linden LabWhat

I've given deeper technical details elsewhere, but as a summary:

People are storing WAY more things in their inventory, and are using scripted objects to transmit data to and from the real world WAY more than we had planned for. So our central database is running very slowly under the load. We are rapidly redesigning and adding hardware to accomodate this usage.

Hopefully the patch we made today will help somewhat, but at this point (2:45pm) we are still watching to see whether that is actually happening.[/QUOTE

I just saw this and tried to respond, but it gave me that bugger off message again. Hey at least he or his secretary or his intern is reading this stuff.

Maybe they cant login in either? ;)

For the last 31 hours I have only been getting as far as Verifying Protocol Version before getting 'The system may be down' message. Does anybody know whether deleting my cache is likely to make the problem better or worse?

it cant hurt Selador, I usually dump mine once a week at least.... also I reset my router and modem often.... Ive been in and out 3 times today and zero problems

Toy,

Thanks, but it didn't make any difference. I have cleared the cache, rebooted the router, reinstalled the software, defragmented my drive, and nothing seems to make any difference whatever. Still 'Verifying protocol version' every time I try to log on.

I'm really sick of this. :(

Well, it's been days now, the patch fixed nothing. If the issue really is what Philip Linden claims it to be, (heavy load on the servers), then I would be able to connect at off-peak times. I can't.

And just now, trying to connect one more time, the client has made me download the new version. Again. I'm getting a horrible sinking feeling.
