Hey I got an Idea
![]() 05-16-2005 02:03
Why dont the lindens or the fansites create a chatroom on the internet so the players who cant login can be there and talk to their friends?
I think it would be less anger and stuff ok it would still be anger but as I said less anger and more happiness Motorcycles is my dream in real life and my "reality" in Secondlife. |

I think it would be less anger and stuff ok it would still be anger but as I said less anger and more happiness. That's a great idea. We cold even add some kinda 3D figures to it so we could sorta see each other. Or even better, some sort of virtual world where we could walk around and chat and do things, like, hmmm, building stuff ! Wow, wouldn't that be cool ? ![]() _____________________

I guess we aren't looking at the same continent. It is the one with Midgard and Friesland in it. Doing the math not only includes the $195/month fee for private sim maintenance, but the purchase of a couple of those (or more) a month at $995 each. It also includes the $195 a month for each 65,000sm owned on the mainland. This person probably owns at least 20 sims worth of mainland land if not more. Then there is the cost of the mainland land from the auctions, which are paid to LL. I have not checked lately, but full sims used to go for between $1300 and $2000US. You can look at the winning auctions for the last month and see how much was spent by people. Again, was the $35,000 number a good one? Probably not, but it wasn't my number. Are there people who can spend $10,000 or more with LL a month. You betcha. ![]() Alan, while AC has certain Admin rights on those sims since she bought them, she does not pay land useage fees for the land on that continent that she has sold to others. Those others have to pay the land useage fees. Just to clarify. ![]() |

Well - I'm happy a Linden, (Philip of all people) finally told us what was up. But still pretty pissed that 1.6.5 'may' fix it though...sigh I think Philip at least touched on SOME of the issues. My only question was, why was it a reply to a missive rather than a top-of-the-list original post where everyone would see it. If that post had been left Saturday in the main news area, likely a lot of folks would have cut LL some slack. Like one user aptly said, "I'm a software engineer and I know what it's like to have bugs... but I'm also a customer who's paying for this service and Linden Labs should be keeping their customers better informed." I'll admit that Philip's message explained a lot of things. Wish we'd have seen it earlier, and in a more visible spot. ![]() |

Just glad to see an attempt at a plausible explanation for the anomoly we are experiencing with log in. Didnt sound very encouraging tho did it. Is Phil telling us that suddenly over the past week we made a zillion more email access scripts and everybody is suddenly inquiring their inventory via 'search' at the same time? Interesting theory anyway. But how plausible since this event seems to have suddenly shown up big time? Im not a techie, what do I know. But Im not getting much hope out of that statement lol. Wish em luck, we need it. Good point Winter, and I've been hollering about this for quite some time now. When I was in college I took a course on "Methods of Propaganda"... designed to protect business people from becoming victims to such. It's amazing what such a course make one aware of. When claims don't match data and timetables, MAJOR CLUE. I've mentioned several times in these forums... if it's CONTENT... how is it that the system went from fine to crappy in one day? Usually something like that tells over a period of time. Now I WILL ADMIT... the glass can keep filling until it overflows. One straw can break a camel's back. But that doesn't really explain to me why we'll be sailing along smoothly, no problems, and the next instant lag to perdition. Doesn't explain why I'll be porting all over the place and then wham! Everyone I talk to ports to limbo and has to log off. These things do not appear to be content related at all. They appear to be OS/Server related. And I'm not hearing a word from LL about that. |

I have not been able to get on for TWO DAYS! I have a business on second life..this is costing me, in game and RL!! Stats I read on a Second Life Demographic page: Total Second Life Registered Users: 35,000 Total number of users that have been online in the last 10-45 day period: 1,500 Suggestion Andie: Stop wasting your time on Second Life and open a business elsewhere, because your client base is dying. Stuff like this is causing people to log in to Second Life, log out and never return. They are apparently losing users by the thousands. I know my vendors are selling a whole lot less than they did 3 months ago-- and I have more items available. I have merchant friends who have closed shop because there are fewer people shopping and those that do shop don't have as much funds as they used to. I'm no marketing and economic guru, but I do know this: 1,500 active users are not going to be enough to keep the economy going. Most sales right now are coming from newbies who don't know what's going on, and after a week or two they realize what's going on and they leave. Business here is looking pretty bleak. |

I have to agree with alot of you that some Lindens dont always give straight answers. Either they want to cover their backs, bluntly lie, or just dont no the answer and are to embarrased to admit it perhaps. But from what i have seen the majority of Lindens are helpful and do care about the residents of SL. Michael, there is something very valid about your post: Whether these things are the case or not (and honesty, I think you're right on the money)... this is the IMPRESSION is giving to their users. And that's just plain bad customer relations. They need to learn a lesson from Nixon. Likely he'd have still remained president if he'd have just said, "Yeah, I messed up. Bad judgement on my part. Let me fix it." We're paying for this service. Many users feel like they're being lied to/deceived / or that LL doens't know what it's doing. True or not, these perceptions are what is killing them. They need an HONEST PR guy to stand up and say, "Hey, we screwed up. Here's what we did wrong. Here's what we're doing to fix it. Hang in there until we get our act together". ![]() |

Whoever told you they were paying $35,000 a month in land usage fees was blowing smoke big time. If you look at the leaderboard, the largest landowner on SL owns a little over 3.8 sims. That's $780 per month. In fact if you add all of the top 10 landowners property, they pay land useage fees of less that $6,000. Raven, you don' thave to own a sim to own land. 3.8 sims doesn't even come CLOSE to what some of these Landowners hold. And yes, $35,000 a month. |

Are there people who can spend $10,000 or more with LL a month. You betcha. ![]() Thanks for pointing that out Alan. I'm amazed that there are folks who jump on a simply-stated figure and start making rash claims based on limited knowledge. I didn't mention the $35,000/month person by name because it was a private conversation and I don't feel right about specifically mentioning names. But as you pointed out, there are folks who spend > $10,000 a month... absolutely. Now, if there are folks that do that... what about the BIG GUNS... then ones that pull down serious profit from SL every week? If one is going to pull down serious profit, ya have to make a serious investment. I have no way to verify the $35,000 a month figure. That's just what I was told, face to face, by a very prominent and saavy businessperson the LAST time these kind of crashes happened and took SL out for a week. |
