trying to be patient
05-15-2005 15:49
I really am trying to be patient but not being able to log in is really getting old. I tried all last night and could not..nor could my partner. I have been trying now for over 2 1/2 hours and still nothing. I did download the preview and that gives me the message to make sure I am not in caps...and I cannot get past that. This log in problem is not just this weekend but is getting to be an expected occurance.

I love this game but it is getting to the point that we cannot play without a problem. I sure do not mind freezing if i can get back in.

What aggravates me is the offer for new players with the free trial. It seems piling more people into this is making it harder for those of us already here. Is there a way it can be "made up" to those of us who are already paying members....perhaps to prorate or give us some Lindens to make up for all the time trying unsuccessfully to get into the game?

I love this game as a way to be with people i care about. I do not want to leave but paying money to only meet up with log in problems all the time is very frustrating.

They are getting more than "old," because they are fast becoming a well worn rut. This is just too much. I've been trying for 4 hours to log in! I shoulda already been in and doing things. But, hmmmpfh.

I'd almost say it would be better to have the game taken DOWN for a couple of hours than to go through this. If it meant them resolving the issue or at least lessening it! *waits for the rotten tomatos*

Lots of people seem to be against LL. I beleive that they do actually try to help us, and get the problems fixed. Even if we dont see it. Of course people arnt happy with this log in situation. I tryed to log on for an hour before decided that i had a life to attend to.
I think it would be great idea for Linden Lab to close SL for a week or two, to sort SL out. Hell, give them as long as they want as long as they can get all the bugs fixed.

I have to agree with alot of you that some Lindens dont always give straight answers. Either they want to cover their backs, bluntly lie, or just dont no the answer and are to embarrased to admit it perhaps. But from what i have seen the majority of Lindens are helpful and do care about the residents of SL.

Just some of my thoughts there :)

What scares me is that they keep growing the game, and maybe they hit a point where they might have to tear the whole thing down and rebuild, and they might not have the money to do that. I'm just a clueless person, but I have nothing better to do these days since there is no game to play, lol...............

And this is where we will see Second Life 2.. where we have to pay yet again the basic fee to play and all that. *grins* Riiiiigghhttt. Although that does bring up a good point. What will happen should the game hit that point where the "fixes" aren't going to cut it and they have to start from scratch again?

Perhaps they will have to rebuild, if and when they use the havok 4 game engine. They will probably have to rebuild the game. I dont no why they have let it get like this to be honest.

Uh, actually... they might not. I spoke to one user here who pays them $35,000US a month. If they don't listen to HER...

Whoever told you they were paying $35,000 a month in land usage fees was blowing smoke big time. If you look at the leaderboard, the largest landowner on SL owns a little over 3.8 sims. That's $780 per month. In fact if you add all of the top 10 landowners property, they pay land useage fees of less that $6,000.

Don't worry. It's not just you. It's affecting the whole SL community.

Some Help!!!
05-15-2005 16:32
Most people are getting that problem. I wouldnt be surprised if everyone is having that problem. There is a bug of course. And LL says they have a new version coming out on tuesday. For all of you people still trying to get on. Heres a tip or a few

Clear the temp internet files, delete cookies and clear history. then try logging into SL with the smaller window size. close all your otver programs. Make sure you keep the SL screen open at all times, and if it appears to crash, keep at it unless it brings u back to the log in page, or comes up with that annoying message. At which point you have to try again :D

Robin, first, let me say, Welcome to the thread. Second, there isn't anything you can do on your end to fix the problem except keep trying until you decide that RL isn't so bad after all;)

Most of us are having this issue, so... misery loves company and you are in the best there is!

I'm sorry people are having problems logging-in. It's not your computer. There are some fixes in the works, but they won't be deployed until the next patch (1.6.5).

Until then, the best thing to do is keep trying, and wait until you're returned to the log-in screen to try again.

Our apologies -- we know this is a huge problem.

On the post stating that the release of 1.6.5 has been moved up to the 16th, there is nothing stating that fixes to the login will be made. Is there or is there not going to be fixes to the login? Whatever happened to the login queue? I would rather wait in line to get in then having to deal with this trying over and over again. I would leave SL but just invested in and Island. *Ponders the idea of going back to TSO* at least i can get in there.

... Would you rather *not* have the fixes that *have* been done, just because some harder problems haven't been fixed yet? ...

We all know that Linden Labs is in business to make money, but as far as corps like that go it's pretty freakin' *close* to altruistic, combiined with our community. You've got a bunch of creative people, Lindens or not, who share a vision of doing this really cool thing with a 3D environment. They're not the Empire, folks, they're not out to rip anybody off. There's no secret agenda to bilk the masses. It's just a bunch of people working together to do some neat stuff.. in the long run we're all able to gather in a pretty cool place and do some pretty cool stuff. So just chill out, eh?

Thanks for being the voice of reason Robin.
I agre with everything you said.
:)

The problem with SL could be that it is an internet game. It is an internet game that is constantly changing, and when your playing it you have to stream everything (rez). Someone please tell me if stream isnt the correct word to use. Other internet games are smaller than SL. So you can download it to your hard drive and only the other players appear over your internet connection. Also many such games do not change constanly. This is the first and only game of this type that i have seen. Its like a beta test and we are the guini pigs. SL will probably never run smoothly as its always changing. ALthough if SL became more technologically advanced and kept the limits to what they are now, then we probably would have a much better time on the game. The game still uses havok 2 gaem engine from around 2001 a beleive. Havok 4 has been realeased. Im sure that woudl make a huge difference to overall gameplay. Regardless of all this, end user pc's still play a huge part in Lag, and other problems that occur.

I have a Theory
05-15-2005 16:55
Some things in the equation "LOGIN problems that may be at work"

There is a known problem of slow logins so those IN are not logging out as they normaly would and feeling superior, and making its even slower

Dump LINUX and APACHE and other OPEN SOURCEs of our grief and get a real OS & Web Server etc .. :) (political mud slinging)

I am being paid back for the bad things I have done in this and past lives

the database/login programmer has a new girlfriend and is in a fog (this is my "women are behind this somehow" side theory, very popular in some circles)

I got in yesterday when I didn't care if I did or not, I can't today when I want to.
If I finally get in with I not care anymore? Freud?

How about if ...
we propose the login meter begins counting down our monthly bill in pennies per three seconds after a stated time sitting with a blinking progress bar, thenwe actually would LIKE to sit and wait .. having the possibility to zero out our bills

this would give the Lindens the added impetus to resolved the problem

lastly,
I could be a bad boy and god is getting me .. good

Well Raven, that would have been a good argument if it wasn't for the fact that the list only show landowners on the mainland and does NOT include private islands !
Also, ownership can be spread over several alts.

We all are quite pissed with this farce we pay good money for this failure of a game, and I agree with so many of you and in particular with regard to the fixing of the major problems of lag and log in. Yes why can't they settle these bugs before adding stupid new seek and find games which only add and create even greater probs. DO THEY EVEN READ OUR LINES? I too own land and to be honest am going to sell up and download my tiers not putting up with this crap. Me and my SL hubbie Monsoon have lost a great amount of stipend time etc money due to their in ability to deliver REASONABLE login in times for everyone concerned to enjoy a friendly game of TRINGO they are making money all the time we are losing with NO MENTION of compension. I suggest they watch the space for a MAJOR migration of ppl to another more reliable online game. ' There' is not as good but then weight it up not as frustrating and they do give notice they are down not just the sim turning red and then nothing but sit and wait :(
