wow I thought this was a neat idea - can't believe some people would make such a big deal of it and be so angry over something like this. We have a sky garden, we think its beautifull and if other people checked it out, as long as the respected out privacy if we where there at the time, whats the big deal?

Then you've been lucky. To be honest, I would say a lot of your posts have been harrassment, but since they weren't aimed at me, I haven't reported them... I'm surprised nobody else hasn't though. People have, nothings ever come of it. Not one warning. Guess I'm not doing anything wrong. |

You're outraging the sensabilities of all of the right thinking people who think that all people should think like them, and that their not doing so and being so offensive as to come out and *say* so is harassment and griefing. You should be ashamed of yourself for not agreeing with the right thinking people, you big bully you! |

Can't be 100% wrong, that would be statistically impossible.

Ok now thats a blanket statment and 100 % flat out wrong. Things in the sky arnt ment to be seen? ya ok Just keep an eye on this poll: /108/d9/127395/1.html I'm certian that you'll see that there are in fact, some things in the sky that are not meant to be seen. --Fox |

Just keep an eye on this poll: /108/d9/127395/1.html I'm certian that you'll see that there are in fact, some things in the sky that are not meant to be seen. --Fox That poll, like many other polls on forums, does not have enough options. It would be great if people could add more options to a poll after it has been posted. That poll does not take into consideration that a lot of people have skyboxes so they can work on new builds without lag. Lag is a big thing. This is not to say that a lot of people don't do it for privacy, but I don't think that referring to the poll you mention is a very accurate way of describing the situation. _____________________

Sorry for going off topic here... I understand that there are a multitude of reasons for making a building in the sky, however, the main question I had was how many people do it for privacy. Due to the fact that we can only make a poll with 10 questions, it would be very difficuly, maybe impossible to list reasons that would cover the entire gamut for everyone. An open question would be the only way to really get the answers, but it would make it very difficult to turn those answers into statistical data unless you were to paraphrase or catagorize all the answers. Somehow, based on forum history in general, I don't think people would be happy with the results of a poll like that either since the results would be completely left open to the poll takers interpretation of the answers. I apologize for the interruption, please direct any further comments to the poll's thread located here: "The Poll" --Fox |

This is not to say that a lot of people don't do it for privacy, but I don't think that referring to the poll you mention is a very accurate way of describing the situation. In fact, self-selected polls are useless for any purpose beyond entertainment of the participants. Anyone who uses figures from one to "prove" anything proves nothing beyond the fact that they don't understand polling... |

Fmeh, as a matter of fact, escaping from lag, or at least minimizing it, is the primary use that I put both of my skyboxes to. I work on a really crummy computer for my SL access, and the only way I get reasonable performance while doing building work is to work at high altitude, away from most of the lag-inducing problems. Even loading textures and sorting inventory is faster for me at 700 Meters altitude. The only times I build at ground level are when I am doing custom builds that have to match the terrain of a parcel, or when I am designing and terraforming a sim. Any work that does not have to be done on the ground is done as high up as I can, to reduce lag. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

In fact, self-selected polls are useless for any purpose beyond entertainment of the participants. Anyone who uses figures from one to "prove" anything proves nothing beyond the fact that they don't understand polling... For the record Julia, the reason for the poll was to satisfy a simple curiosity of MINE, not to prove anything to anyone. I saw a statement that I did not agree with, so instead of blindly ripping at said statement, I decided to find what others thoughts were for MYSELF. If I were trying to prove something there, I certianly would not have added the silly answers or made it a multiple select poll. And again, please direct any comments regarding this to "The Poll"... Maybe you should read it before you attack it. |
