Jonas Pieterson--you have private messages disabled, so the only way I can say this is in the forum.

You have the right to manage your land any way you want to. You're paying for the land, and you're contributing a hell of a lot more money a month to the lindens than I am, which is only $10 a month.

SL for a huge percentage of people is about finding cool new places to see, hang out, and finding cool new people. You don't seem to be in SL for any of those reasons, and it seriously confuses me.

Have you ever considered working with game engines of other programs that you could share with your close friends instead? You know, something that's completely closed to the public to begin with...

Griefers primarily grief to ruin the enjoyment of SL for people. I question your motives in the way you handle your land as to whether you don't just do it for the same reason as griefers grief--to purposely ruin the enjoyment of SL for people.

Others who talk about privacy on this forum seem to make sense--they seem to just be genuinely wanting privacy. Your posts do not give me that impression, and until you say some things that do give me that impression, I'm going to believe, as well as I imagine many others will believe as well, that you are primarily interested in SL so you can implement power trips--and you have that right, you're paying a substantial amount more a month for that privilege. Just like in real life, in SL, money is power, and just like in real life, there's nothing illegal about being on a power trip.

Your posts are the reason why I almost quit SL because your posts gave me the impression that exploring in SL was a bad thing. Luckily, after getting re-assured from others on SL, I found out that exploring generally IS a good thing and it is the reason why a lot of people are involved with SL.

I refuse to judge others in SL by your attitude.

Good! You make up your own mind.

My viewpoint, however makes sense to me and, for me, is right.

You obviously don't know me, and I have no desire to get to know you.

Now, let me be equally clear: your opinion means nothing to me.

ZOMG Trixy ! You are a goddessdamn skybox terrorist !

What is the army doing ?! FFS !

Your should be captured by the lindens and forced to wear a plywood cube on your head in public for a whole week! And that would be far from a proper punishment for acts so vile as capturing the skyboxes' souls in your screencaps.

Meh ... our skybox isn't all that great, but if there's nobody there, I don't object to it being photographed... Of course, if you screenshot it while someone is there, I'll hunt ya down and... and... and... well I'll think of something, and you won't like it... much... maybe... or something.

And I'll turn damage on and hit you with a 100% damage autokill thats nonphysical and ignores shields.

Also legal, and as the land is set to damage enabled, within ToS.

Oh god, this is gonna have to be my last post - my gut hurts too much from laughing at these guys. :D

Like anyone with any knowledge of SL gives a hoot for damage enabled land! It's nothing more than a TP home and with P2P teleport any target can be back almost instantly if they so choose. And this will only work if the target is on your parcel - otherwise its so much hot air.

The simple fact remains - if someone wants a snapshot of your skybox, or anything on the parcel for that matter, inside or out, they will get it and there's nada you can do about it short of buying a sim and closing it off.

Yeah but if you use a hack for looking in where you couldn't normally reach, ARs do hurt you. Have fun in the cornfield!

Oh and it is more than just a TP home, its also fun watchinh you get fried over and over again.

And that will get YOU ARd. By the way... your damage-enabled trick only applies if damage is anabled BEFORE the victim enters your land. If you turn it on after and kill them, then that is a reportable offence.

Nope ... sorry.... this would be considered tatamount to an illegal chatlog bug if the skybox was occupied. Peeping toms get suspended all the time for stuff here.

Not sure if you were responding to me or some earlier post. Sure they can get suspended if you use the proper tools. But if the land owner retaliates with an illegal method as Jonas suggested, then he can be ARd too... and LL are renowned for coming down very hard on retaliation.

If damage is enabled, using damage only weaponry isn't ARable. The health meter gives you the warning.

Its completely legal.

No, it isn't. I've had the incident before, was reported, and they got suspended for harassment. I've never been suspended.

Then you've been lucky. To be honest, I would say a lot of your posts have been harrassment, but since they weren't aimed at me, I haven't reported them... I'm surprised nobody else hasn't though.

OK, I lied, I just can't resist. :D

You keep watching dude - you're never gonna fry a smart hunter because they're never gonna cross onto the parcel. No need to..

And if you think LL is gonna take any action on an AR for someone taking a snapshot, god tool or not, well good luck with that one. I won't lose any sleep worrying about that possibility.

And speaking of fun, I just got to AR another no-notice ejection system while flying along minding my own business. Wheee!

If you consider it harrassment, sure... LL will decide the right of it.

Skybox spelunking is a time honored tradition! Probably been around for as long as skyboxes have, at the very least as long as I have! There have even been hunts organized on this very board in the past (not by myself). So long as folks are not being harassed while 'in the act' I see no problem. If you truley want privacy, get yourself a security system that doesn't violate any rules or build down (sim applicable) and put up access restrictions.

For the record, I've built down. And if someone stumbles down there while I'm not around.. heck, knock yourselves out!

True. The same could be said of any structure, but point taken.

Who said anything about going inside...or even looking inside? You see, this is the argument that puts my eyes on permanent roll...I see no problem with flying by and taking pictures of any structure (even a freakin' skybox) if you do so at a respectful distance. I'm not talking about walking on the thing, peeking in the windows or anything like that for fucks sake.

People immediately go to the extreme. Someone says they would like to take pictures of skyboxes and folks yell "GRIEFER!!!!" The implication is that "taking pictures of skyboxes" equals walking in uninvited. It doesn't.

All of this could be avoided very easily. Build a huge plywood cube. Make the inside as beautiful as you want. This will foil the evil explorers who happen by looking for interesting builds. All the while, you'll be inside chuckling, sitting on your luxurious leather sofa knowing how fabulous your plywood cube really is.

But this attitude is just a reflection of the real world. No one should be surprised.

http://www.boingboing.net/2005/07/28/no_taking_pix_of_san.html

I know this story involves taking pictures of buildings from public places but the similarities came to me immediately. The camera Nazis are alive and well in SL as well as RL.

What bothers me most is that the notion of privacy in SL has become an all-encompassing ideal that results in the building of virtual walls. Seeing harm in taking a picture of the outside of a structure boggles my mind. Personally, I hope I never become so infatuated with this definition of privacy that a I set myself apart from the world, virtual or otherwise.

Excellent post. Especially the part I bolded. The answer to your question is: Not the original poster or any of the people who think exploring for interesting sky builds is a fun idea. The only one's talking or worried about the inside of skyboxes are the one's who think flying by and admiring sky builds equals griefing.

I'm with you. I'm sorry I ever read this thread for the sake of seeing Jonas' posts. It's really depressing and it boggles my mind how greedy some people are.
