Oh, and I'm not a recluse. You're welcome to visit my land *on the ground*. In the sky however, that's for myself and my gf's and my friends and invited guests *only*. It doesn't make me reclusive, just selective.

I see all of your points. So much so I plan to leave the group not because
I thought the idea was a bad one but the fact I didn't take "privacy" matters into consideration. For that, I apologize to all the landowners.

I respect your decision, but I think it's too bad.

Reading and participating in this thread has convinced me that Trixy is aware of the privacy issues and always planned on being careful about that. I think she has good intentions with this group and it sounds like a nice way to explore. The folks who're against the idea have clear opinions and plans to protect themselves. Other people don't care. There is more than one side to the question.

Why not continue to look for interesting builds in the sky and respect people's privacy? The two are not mutually exclusive. :)

No you dont seem to be and I take it back.
Look all I want is a group that 1 actulay gets together 2 takes pic's of interesting builds and I am sorry but there r a lot of interesting builds inthe sky. none of which r even homes. By the term "skybox" I am talking about a build in the sky , not a person or there privet things.

Fox invited me to explore once, but I stayed to the ground. :)

Hope that campfire helps keep yall warm at the beach.

Lucky,

I said I understand the privacy issue because I am a landowner and to me I know how much I like my privacy as in not just anyone landing on my land. I could care less if anyone wanted to take a picture of my home but as we all know in SL, the camera is not limited. No matter how much securtiy I put up, people who really want to peek inside wil with their camera. Yes, Trixy does understand the privacy rights of others. Like I said, I've known her for awhile now.

I have always explored SL and respected peoples privacyand will continue to do so. It's important to me. It's important to others.

If something is built at 600 meters and there isn't a teleport up to it, chances are good it's meant to be private and the owner doesn't want visitors. I don't think that's so hard to understand.

What's hard to understand is why anyone would believe this gross generalization. Maybe that's true for some, but it's far from an obvious thing. If I wanted privacy, I'd be in my ground home, where I can secure it with ban lines when I don't want people in. (And in fact it's parts of my ground home that have a security script to eject anyone who enters without knocking.)

I do currently have a teleporter up to my skyport, but I didn't for the longest time (didn't know for a long time that it was even possible for teleporters to reach that high). But I've always been happy to have visitors fly in. My runway is always open. :D

I have a neighbor with a really beautiful Persian-style skycastle, too. This group should check out the skies of Solha.

One of the great things about SL is that you can build your castles in the air. There's a lot of great, imaginative architecture up there for those of us who prefer the "skylife" (lol). Grab your aircraft of choice and fly around sometime if you don't believe me.

Unfortunately, there's also a lot of ugly blocky structures, or things that don't look like they were meant for the skies. Those are probably the people who want their privacy, but since their homes are so ugly you probably won't want to visit them anyhow.

In any case, it's patently ridiculous to assume a structure is meant to be private based on nothing but it's altitude alone, and simply no good reason to avoid flying around looking at them any more than to avoid sailing around looking at seafront homes. (I have one of those two, but be more careful there, that's where I go when I want privacy... but I don't illogically assume people can just read my mind and know that, based on the proximity of my home to the ground.)

My thoughts on the worrying that people might visit your "skybox": if you want true privacy with no chance of someone happening along, buy your own sim and restrict access. That's it. Otherwise, quit whining. It's annoying.

Trixy gets chased by skybox villagers with torches...

Ive seen these types before, "GET OFF OF MY LAWN YOU PESKY MEDDLING KIDS!! ". What are you hiding up there in those boxes your so afraid somebody else is gonna see? You know, the type of stuff that makes you feel so threatened that you put up killer ejection droids to blast casual aircraft users out of the sim. Dont think Trixy said she was gonna peek in the windows and take pictures of skybox owners and their sheep getting it on. " CRIPES, NOW THE WHOLE WORLD IS GONNA SEE THAT IM A TERRIBLE HOUSEKEEPER! DIRTY DISHES IN THE SINK AND EVERYTHING!" I myself enjoy exploring new, creative, interesting builds. I dont go walking into empty residences unless something there implies that drop ins are welcome. What Trixy needs to do is scout out interesting locations and then make requests of the homeowner to stop by and take pics. That will give these paranoid skyboxers time to hide the sheep and wash those dishes. You can check out my skybox anytime Trixy. One of those fancy new virtual reality cubes. Theres a telepod to get into it down by the front door of my house on ground level. No sheep, yet ;)

Actually 2 people in 1 wk doing exactly that is why our house on the ground is restricted to group only. Call me paranoid but I've got experience. Also I've had someone land on our sky build(750m) and just start building his own build on the sand.

Well then, guess what? Tough. If you want some kind of special priviledge to never have anyone ever come along -- to just carve out your own little section of SL that's for you alone and nobody else -- then you can buy that sim. Otherwise, you can quit whining because you're not entitled to your own personal, wholly inaccessible section of SL unless you buy a sim. Per. I. Od.

And you know what? I have NO sympathy. I like visitors. I like people, except when they're jerks. I don't know why anyone would want to carve out a cave in SL and hide from the whole world in it. I think that's dumb beyond measure. Why would you enter a social environment like SL to be antisocial??

768m ban lines will do the job.

Well I'm sorry that you equate coming into second life and spending time with your SL family and friends mean you also have to welcome every tom dick and harry into your personal spaces. Because it just ain't gonna happen on my land. You can bounce off my ban lines and wish LL agreed with you.

ps. Dumb beyond measure is deciding what other people have to allow/want on THEIR land.

Okay then, let me make it as obvious as I possibly can. *My* skybox is at a very high altitude because I want privacy. Not necessarily for sex, but because once in awhile a person wants to be alone and have a space where they can do some quiet thinking without being disturbed by visitors. Maybe other people don't build at 500+ meters for that reason, but I do.

If I haven't invited you there, I don't want you there. I don't want anyone landmarking it or taking pictures, whether I'm there or not. Not because I keep anything kinky on display, but because it's *my private space.*

Feel free to explore my ground build, take pictures of that, have fun. Look around my shop, there's a clearly marked teleporter up to it. However, my skybox is high up for a reason. Please do us both a favor and respect that reason. Thanks.

Poor Trix, lol, you have a fun idea here, and i am sure you have no intention of invading anyones privacy.

We've made an entire business of sky housing in SL, SKYE CONDOS, come on over bring your camera, i ll give you the dime tour, can snap away all you like, ill even take you in some vacant units to see whats inside...ill be joining up! This sounds interesting, cant wait to see some of the interesting builds (from the outside at a distance) LMAO at everyone that thinks theres more to this than that.

Exploring SL is one of its main attractions...seeing the genius of the creators here, dont be so eager to put someone down for an idea, if it has not yet become a problem ;)

First off, there are many places that are actual clubs that are skyboxes. Since the search function in SL needs a LOT more functionality, I use the map option to find places that have a lot of people at them to see if I can find any cool hangouts. If there was something in the search option that let me see what places CURRENTLY have a lot of people in them, I wouldn't have to use the map.

Many times, there are places that in order to go where the action is, one has to fly into skybox territory.

I"m firmly in the builds should be appreciated (from the outside please unless you have permissions) camp. There's a gorgeous victorian build I'd love to get a good look at, but its on a large parcel and its got a nice security system up. One of these days I'll get around to asking for a tour.

ITS NOT ABOUT GOING INSIDE !! MY God people

0 people in my skybox = no-one home, you are welcome to have a look

1 person in my skybox = I'm home, IM me and I am likely to invite you in... :D

10+ people in my skybox = a party, all are welcome!

2-9 people in there = private function, stay the hell OUT or face the consequences ;)
