I can mass copy my new Beck CD and give it out for free, or sell it. I would still be breaking the law. Being able to "do" something, in this case copy, does not trump IP law. Being that the creators have expressed that they do not wish these items to be sold, IP rights nullify any claim that it is ok just because it's possible to do so. Had the creators not said a word (or not cared) after finding out, that would be a different story. Clearly this is not the case, and therefore, your argument is flawed. It doesn't say in the edit window, "If you click allow transfer, you give up all your IP rights to this content". When IP rights were granted us in SL, LL never directly linked it to those permissions boxes, and how they were or weren't set.

IP rights are a REAL WORLD THING. Check boxes in a "game", as so many of you want to call it, do not change the fact that the artist has 100% control LEGALLY over how their IP can be used. Period.

I was chatting to another content creator about the old RATE. I forget what the acronym stood for, but it was an attempt at coming up with an ethical business guideline and enforcing it the same way the Better Business Bureau does.

As he pointed out, organizing and running one would be a thankless job. We have alot of creative minds in Sl though. How could we effectively create something like this. It would be a place people could get disputes resolved and where you could register.

How does the BBB survive. Anyone know? And what kind of group would we trust to make fair decisions. Would people submit to arbitration?

Would you be more likely to buy from a vendor that had a BBB type sign on it?
