Based on what you describe - I don't see why you would have to move to the Adult Continent.

Uhh, if she wants to ADVERTISE her various products, including the Adult ones, she will have to move. Dur.

I was relieved to hear Cyn talk about a much broader announcement of these changes, but I noticed that she neglected to mention *how* they were going to release it- the question mentioned message of the day, and she said "yes", so hopefully she wasn't blowing sunshine up our collective skirts.

A MotD is hopefully in the works. What we want to wait for is a clearer, finalized Definitions article and FAQ sheet to be able to point people to.

Virtual worlds may have a greater appeal, because of their interactivity, than relatively static websites-although even that isn't completely true since porn sites do have some chats and other things I believe.

Not only porn sites. I think on the good old Netmeeting-tool from internets stone-age...some years ago and now we have globewide millions of professional, semi-professional, private and whatever possibilities to interact as groups or individuals cam to cam...mic to mic...chat to chat.

Think on a thing like this simple windows-messenger tool.

Can be used for sharing cooking recipes or for investigations on southern region body landscapes and anatomical specifications of individuals or groups...no government is involved in this.

All these medias making the internet to the biggest group orgy room ever since the old romans and greeks and even the biggest names in biz, Microsoft for example, are providing the fitting tools for everyone and for free, with nearly no entry barrieres.

Every handy is an adult tool from this view seen and delivers sound, pictures and videos from person to person in real time, if needed...

All this is in no trouble and long established and growing. It is available for money or for free and for everyone around the globe.

No phone company and no software company and no hardware company is ashamed about that.

So I agree. I think it is a bundle of reasons and ideas and influences and sorts of self-hypnosis and whatever may go around in the heads of the LL-management which leaded to the actual situation, maybe with some percentage government finger-wagging mixed in.

A poisoned cocktail of reasons, so to speak.

Cause she can't advertise it as a sex bed any more, since sex is a filtered word, and not supposed to be used on Mature land search listings.

I watched an incredible content creator leave today, I fear many more will go before this is all through.
What do you want Linden Lab? What are you after? Will the cost be too much?

We can help.

Sorry to clip it down to the last few sentences, but I wanted to say that it was a well written post.

In other words, could a business on mature or PG land advertise such products using words classified 'adult' to advertize to those verified and flagged to be able to search those terms, and advertized using non-adult terms for everyone else and not be required to move?

If a resident chooses to use adult words in their advertising - they will need to be on adult land.

There are many well-written posts, Blondin. It would serve well to acknowledge and highlight all of them, and stop cherry-picking.

Answer the questions already.

Hopefully? :(

At least you guys are planning on doing it, and are waiting until you have your act together to do it. There has been enough misinformation and doubt spread about this. So this is good news!

I hope that there will be another feedback round once the "RC" definitions are put out - trying to find out where there are loopholes and/or issues.

Hi Blondin, care to comment on this?

I don't really expect you can comment on this. If you do I will be impressed:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For Immediate Release
May 5, 2008

Kirk, Parents and Police: Delete Online Predators

Four-million-strong Second Life site offers “rape rooms” – easy access to children

Kirk: “FTC should investigate the growing vulnerability of children to predators on Second Life”

Mount Prospect, Ill. – U.S. Representative Mark Kirk today joined with local parents, teachers and law enforcement to call for federal action to protect kids from child predators and registered sex offenders on “Second Life” and other social networking Web sites.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Personally, I think it's the lowest of low political tactics to use children and sex offenders to attack something. First of all, where is the parent's responsibility to keep their children out of "bad neighborhoods", whether real or virtual? Second, the real perverts want to get on camera on MSN :-) (by that I mean *any* online system that lets people communicate can be used by unsupervised children to hook up with predators)

For Blondin - Questions
05-12-2009 08:47
Have you revised the first come first served for the land swap yet? If so, what is the new policy?

Have you defined the move window? If so, what is it? If you're picking up the tier for the second plot I can take my time and drag the move out for years if there's no clear window given.

Have you a firm date for the list to be open? Sooner rather than later would be good, this is just dragging it out for no good reason.

If you notice on top of the KB Article it says: Note: This document is undergoing a round of edits. The final version may be different.

Yet nothing in words or action by any other Linden has shown any hint that this will actually happen.
I also do notice that at your office hour, you talked about updating this document after the brown-bag meeting Monday.
Are we to assume that this "Note: This document is undergoing a round of edits" and the current wording will simply stay as-is, until the final version, which may or may not be different from the current, is sprung when the policies go into effect?

But my post was actually not even about the 6010 article as such, but about the fact that, at the base of the issue, different Lindens seem to want to use this for different things. To again use 6010 as an example, I can hardly imagine that some Linden thought, "I don't mean this. I'll just type some random words and publish them and tick off and scare a sizable percentage of the user base". Somebody wrote it, and from our perspective, those words have exactly as much weight (if not more, considering how it has been presented and referred to) than what, say, you're saying in this semi-official forum.

Blondin, please understand that we can only react to the information we see, and it is, at the very best, inconsistent. This inconsistency, between words and articles, and between different Lindens, is a *huge* source of anxiety, and we have *no* way of telling *which* of the inconsistent interpretations will go into effect once things are finalized.

I'll follow up and see what answers I can come up with.

You're third question though - Lists? Do you mean Ursula?

Blondin: the first time that KB6010 was posted, it said it was changing. We expected it would change in a way that reflected what you were posting here. Instead, it went the other way. We want to know if the final version will actually reflect what you have posted or not.

To add to this and my previous post: A major problem is that we see no indication of things narrowing in on a final version; no final picture slowly forming. We (the residents) are constantly surprised by new curve balls, invalidating what has previously been said, or re-opening issues we thought were settled. There *may* be a final picture somewhere (and frankly, there is a fair bit of suspicion that there has always been, and this whole discussion has largely been a charade), but we're just not seeing it. We simply cannot form it from the information we're given.

We're in the wrong damn universe again, Lieutenant!

But it does explain why you are wearing a goatee, Ensign Kidd. I would change that red shirt if I were you, however.

/me strokes...er, his goatee and smirks.

/me whips off his red shirt in obedience to orders.

If I didn't know better, Lieutenant, I would suspect you of being interested in...adult content.

so, the residents organise the birthday party, are localising the viewers, provide the content that LL crow about yet somehow don't deserve any kind of consideration when they're in the way of the great leap forward.

by december there'll be major changes afoot.. the new user friendly viewer, some kind of facebooky web overlay and voice.. amongst other things

I admit I'm underwhelmed, but that's just me. I'm an early adopter not a sheep and so will be swept aside to let the baaasil's and baaarbaara's of this world in.

I'm very well aware of this and have never been happy about it. There are still too many bottom of the barrel sociopaths in sl for my taste but I'm resigned to the scripts.

What about us somewhere between the top and middle of the barrel ones? ;)

From: someone
There is no reason to include this feature. Except LL really doesn't like the concept of any kind of personal privacy or space. Even now I'm surprised that they ever removed mapping because it flies in the face of their stupid, crap, bullshit beliefs and I'm sorry if I don't believe in making life easier for the pond scum.

as you can see. that's probably my straw.

Actually with all the pandemonium with the adult changes (which I still can't work out just how they'll impact *my* SL experience) I'd missed this. I can live with being a green dot, but I don't want to be an indentified green dot. It's bad enough with the scanners that sometimes I can't just be doing whatever I want to do without getting sidelined because someone spotted me, building something like that into the viewer is going to really p*ss me off. So much so I can see myself doing what I always hated, and getting an alt :(

Er.. I think the protocol is weird enough that anybody, friend or not, that sends you an IM can get your in-world location. It takes a bot or custom viewer but I have seen this demo'ed.
