...Lets not dismiss the value of debate for debates sake. ...

No... Wasn't doing that. It was just that many of my reactions to Alex's posts started or ended with a question about what kind of drugs he was on or if he was actually reading the stuff he was replying to. Seems that a number of others have the same reactions.

I'm all for discussing this and even wish the more rational people who are in favor of LLs plan would state their case more often here (thought the same person saying the same thing over and over gets a little tired) but what's been going on isn't rational discussion.

/me predicts that it will turn out Alex is really named Alice or Eliza. Somebody give him a Turing test!!

From: Kalderi Tomsen
I think that statement applies to about 90% of the recent posts on this thread.

Does anyone REALLY think that anybody at LL is going to care about ANYTHING that has been posted in here recently? This is worse than an RA thread.

I think some good info and thoughts have come from these threads.. If nothing else, they've identified a (larger) number of facets about LLs plan that makes it sound worse and worse.

/me wonders what the threshold is before LL backs away from this.. Just how bad can it look before they decide it's not a great move?

"At the beginning of our movement, I acted above all by intuition. During my imprisonment I had time to provide my philosophy with a natural, historical foundation. From their own point of view, the rulers of the day made a miscalculation in locking me up. They would have been far wiser to let me make speeches all the time, without giving me any respite!" - Adolf Hitler, 27 July 1941

Are we not in the middle of a war on eros? The signals of the combatant are relative militant, I would say...

They manufacture in China because there is too much socialism in U.S. and Europe. High taxes and expensive labor. It is cheaper to have 100 employees in China than 2 in Germany, because you need to pay 80% tax in France and 50% in Germany. All of this because of socialism regime in U.S and E.U.(Watch this marxist Obama)Somebody who is working in factory indeed they should not earn a lot. So everything is fine. Additionally with billion people in China they are happy that some have work. So don't repeat this propaganda.

Sorry, I just choked on my soda. Companies want to manufacture in china because there is too much *socialism* in the US and europe?

Which is exactly what I meant - an RA thread, not a discussion about the issues. It was cluttered with off-topic discussions when Blondin WAS around.

I'm just waiting for the Vogon poetry to start....

I think that the problem was the drug he actually didn't have in his system: SL. His views appeared to me to be that of an outsider who'd read enough about sl and knew enough about other games to be confident enough to be able to wander in here and start chatting.

The problem is that we're actually having a quite technical discussion about the new policy and how it applies to us. If you don't understand the platform enough to know what is relevant and what isn't then you come unstuck.

To give him his due, he was digging into his legislation and being prepared to change his mind and to acknowledge it. He's given it a good shot, but his arguments aren't robust enough simply because he lacks the knowledge of SL.

Hopefully he will go inworld and discover the magic. Then he'll be in the same boat as the rest of us schmucks and can hopefully turn his talent to the light.

Actually, I know for a fact that LL does read this thread. Needless to say - as with any other reader - LL is likely to ignore flames, rants and gobbledygook. It's up to us to get a clear message across - to make coherent arguments based on facts, experience and sound reasoning. Gnashing our teeth and rending our garments, while emotionally satisfying, is unlikely to effect prompt and cheerful capitulation.

*raises a claw* Uhh.. I don't ignore flames, rants, and gobbledygook. Well, OK, maybe gobbledygook, but just a little bit.

People try coherent arguments based on facts, experience, and sound reasoning. They get ignored. People move up to gnashing their teeth and rending their garments (assuming they wear any; if not, they rend their neighbors), they still get ignored. People move up to open public dissent, ridicule, sarcasm, and vitriole, and they still get ignored.

In the end, people give up, cancel their subs/tier, dump their stuff, and leave. THEN we get "what could we have done better?", asked of the darkness and silence.

Too little, too late.

You're right, there is a learning curve to a the LL set-up

In my personal case, I first tried SL in 2007, created a "throw away AV" and wandered around a bit, then lost interest. About 6-8 months later some RL friends got into it, and I realized that my first AV, picked for a funny-sounding last name as a goof, wasn't going to cut it in a vampire RP, so I made my first ALT. Then I started branching out from there as I realized that I couldn't do *all* the RP stuff I wanted to without having an inventory the size of Greenland- so I started creating new ones as I went.

I now have 6 AV's including the original "throw away", and I *still* only got involved in these forums a few weeks ago because of this issue.

So yeah, they're kinda tough to find, and to see what you want to see. and I have been plugging along at this for a couple years now.

Maybe that's different for different people, but I'm not exactly clueless computer-wise, and have been yakking in online forums since you needed to speak DOS and know the word "Baud".

And let me tell you, that terms was pretty confusing to an Elizabethan Vampire! :)

-V-

And probably even more confusing for the folks who are reading this. Sorry gang, I went into old Schoonhoven's profile to see how long ago I created him, and it switched all the browser windows to his account rather than mine

My apologies- just look for the -V- at the bottom :)

Well, if we could perhaps move away from this moronic drivel about "communism", the active censorship by Amazon - Jeff Bezos being a significant LL partner, and Amazon S3 providing downloads for the SL client - should maybe be of importance to people. You know, classifying anything slightly "gay" as "adult".

This is not an acceptable definition. Until Amazon reverse this I, personally, will not be buying anything, downloading anything or editing any systems which involve Amazon, and will be encouraging everyone ever to do the same.

What took you so long? I've boycotted them since the 1-click patent BS. Bezos is a mighty wank.

just out of curiosity- do you know the context of that clinton quote? Everyone throws it around as if it's the most stupid thing in the world, but it was actually a fairly important point at the time, and a perfectly valid one.

Just saying that it isn't as dumb as it sounds :)

-V-

Yes, yes I do, and it IS the most stupid thing in the world, since it was clearly part of his attempt to continue to deceive the grand jury.

Yes, it IS as dumb as it sounds. It sounds of someone desperately trying to weasel out of being pinned down for lying (AKA "PERJURY";), by playing stupid semantics games.

Clinton was well aware that the issue was a past affair with Monica, not a current affair. He was trying to play a word game with the interviewer, but only made himself look like the lying sack of excrement he was.

Yeah, it was a stupid thing for him to get involved sexually with an intern, but he was well-known for that crap even when he was Governor of Arkansas. It wasn't anything new with him. It was also stupid for the special prosecutor to go after him for that. However, the MOST stupid act was his in LYING about it under oath, when there was more than ample evidence of the truth of the matter. It's a lot easier to legally forgive him screwing around with an intern than it is to forgive him perjuring himself.

trying to steer this out of control boat back to the topic.. or not

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7993186.stm

turn out micropayments are the next big thing.. Of course SL is leading the way in the acceptance of this... those guys looks like amateurs compared to us. I mean, we have a sophisticated economy.

anyone care to hazard a guess how much the 'adult content' market is as a percentage of overall turnover? From animations to tips it's certainly got to be bigger than that magical 4%

Until recently, I don't believe that big-SL-investors-Amazon have been classifying everything even vaguely mentioned The Gays as "Adult". But they are now. And now I am boycotting Amazon - including S3, which must mean you are using some client from two years ago.

Read the interview with Anshe Chang, SL millionaire, she moved to China to open her company because it would be too expensive and impossible to do in Germany because of their socialistic government.

I use decleration of human rights..

Is that what happens when you put the brakes on social progress? The deceleration of human rights?

this is your manipulation. I said that : I use declaration of human rights in the toilet instead of toilet paper.

Indeed I'm not supporting democracy because it is the system when two idiots have more votes than University Professor.

Dont also forget that Hitler was elected by democratic votes

Don't be an ass. We all make typos. If you can't laugh at them you're missing out on one of the great joys of the interwebs.

And it's too late to try and get 100 points by bringing in Hitler now, we've already closed the contest and your score's final.

I Am Adult Content
04-12-2009 18:36
Okay, I do not normally post on these things. But, this is a topic that is getting ridiculous in my oppinion. Linden Labs, you can not define adult content because each and every person has thier own definition of what is considered adult content. This topic arose mainly because parents do not monitor what thier kids do on the internet and you caved to those parents blameing you for makeing the game instead of putting the blame where it belongs both on themselves for not putting parental controls on thier computers. And, on the child who lied about his/her age and wormed his/her way into places they should not have been in the first place. If you had not wanted Mature content in Second Life you should not have made it so that players could build and script and texture objects and environments. That by itself tells me that you wanted us the players to make the world our own in anyway we saw fit.
