Upcoming Changes for Adult Content: Answers to Questions

Ive been to quite a few Gor sims and Read most of the books.
gor in and of itself isnt adult how the users in SL pertray Gor is there view of it. but gor isnt adult. dont punish the SL members that like to gorean RP with out emphising the small portion of Gor that the other 90% of the gor RPers in SL that never read a single one of the books emphiisize.

If you want to search for adult products in SL after the adult content search is in place, I suggest you get your account verified and do it legitimately.

I really don't think they are that sneaky. Linden Labs is a Silicon Vally company full of geeks. The June date is likely just when they think the 1.23 client will go out the door. That client is required to make all the Adult content flagging work, so they can't do it any earlier than that.

I believe it's best that if you want to access adult content after the policy is in place, you verify your account and do it that way.

I don't believe the filtered words list will be particuarly useful for that purpose.

/me sighs......I have read the books too. The question is NOT whether Gor in and of itself is adult or not. It IS portrayed by the majority in SL as adult and is very sexual. I am just trying to imagine how successful a gorean sim would be in sl without sex involved.

I'm no fan of Gor and Goreans, but I'd like to see some justification for that.

Maybe I ought to set up a John Ringo themed build, (google for "OH JOHN RINGO NO", or maybe something based on Jack Chalker's novel "Web of the Chozen".

Plenty of places sell Gorean clothing and silks. They also cater to their style of buildings, none of these examples are adult or sexual in themselves any more so than any other buildings and clothing items.

So EVERYTHING Gor in SL must be adult?

why not? all BDSM~ activities are going to be flagged that way.. Pity the application of it is so inconsistent, after all the starwars et al communities are probably just as smutty but will somehow be overlooked.

actually, if you think about it the most sensible thing to do is turn it all violent. violence is ok so they'd probably overlook a bit of smut.

I agree...This new adult content thing is crazy and Linden may end up losing more money than they think they will make from it, as landowners just dont want the hassle anymore and are giving up. Maybe the Gor merchandise can be sold on the mainland, however the merchandiser is sure to loose alot of sales - I know when i want a sexy silk, i travel to a gorean sim knowing i can find it there.

You (and Linden Lab) should wonder instead how successful ANY sim will be in SL without sex involved.

Oh, a few places...Livingtree comes to mind...have zero sexual content or activity on them. The vast majority have SOME adult content or activity. Most of it is fairly discreet, but it's there.

It's now clear that LL's ultimate goal is to eliminate all of it. Not "most extreme". Not "only the sex clubs". Not "just the adult content providers and businesses."

All of it. No more poseballs. No sex beds or cuddle rugs. No hot tubs. No dungeons (OMG, no!) No racy words of any kind in your profile, or in your business name, or in your groups. I expect they will censor chat and IM if they can. No roleplay sims. No more furries, or Goreans, or Neko. No more Goth girls, no more vampires. No more gay or lesbian or transgender groups or builds or organizations.

Mark, why don't you just go all the way? Chop out the avatar appearance menu, and just issue everyone either the Girl Next Door or the Boy Next Door avatar, with painted-on clothes? Or maybe that's still too dangerous...after all, with two sexes of avatar, there is always the possibility of avatar sex. Just give everyone a nice yellow Smiley Face avatar. That way, you'll know that all of your customers are Happy, as they bounce through a Second Life filled with corporate ads.

just becouse somthing has the means to be used in an adult manor doesnt make it adult.
sure all the gor Sim that play on the aspect of sexual slavery should be adult. but there is also a small gorean Comunity here is SL that plays on the story lines and keeps the sexaul slavery behind closed doors, but where Slavery is part of everyday life in Gor not all of it is sexual. most of it is companionship, house hold chores and duites and the like. whle living iin a barbaric world with large and strange animals to fend off and hords of raiders, or shopping at a market. or drinking iin a tavern. theres alot more to Gor RP that the SLers such as myself that read teh books partake iin.

Hey...i am not making these rules and I am totally against the adult content seperation that is going on. I am just making an observation that if a gor sim is all about sexual slavery as many if not most of them are, than it too should be considered adult....its just common sense.

That's interesting, as soon as I got into SL, I am soooooooo taken back to a Phillip K Dick short story, I wish I could remember it's name...

Basically some settlers on a hostile Mars landscape had to live underground and ended up as adults playing, living and interacting through dolls. I think one was called Pasty Pat.

It was a great little comment from him, how true it is in so many ways.

I think the list of words is probably on the server side, which is why we can't see them and have to figure them out via testing. If it was actually in the 1.23 viewer, somebody could just read the source.

In other words, the list can change any time without us knowing it. Just because a word is (or isn't) in there today doesn't mean it won't be there (or removed) 10 minutes from now.

But it isn't ALL about sexual slavery. Some people MAY roleplay that but not everyone. There are battles, and many non-sexual stories played out by the roleplayers. The battles happen a lot more than the sex does.

Because the SL web sites were PG even before this all started?
