What was that??? You reading and thus responding to one of my old threads?? Why am I supposed to be guessing??? Who the hell said I was debating this with you? Was my post so convoluted that you couldnt figure out that I agreed with the 'do what you want with your land' even though its unneighborly? Well, YES! It was convoluted indeed, so I will FORGIVE YOU Mr/Mrs/Ms. Mouse or whatever fuzzy thing you might be, for your unprovoked attack on my sensibilities ;) Offers you a cookie.

Huh?

Why so confrontational?

I don't get it. Do I know you?

Oooh! Hey! I rent a place now, so I can contribute something inconsequential to this thread!

The company(?) I rent from gives tenants control over Parcel Access, and freeze/eject/ban capabilities. I do not use ban lines to keep out the whole public.

However, there are a couple of names on the ban list. The ban list is just like a personal toy of mine. There are an extremely tiny number of people that have managed to make me really not like them, for whatever reason. Because I can (and let's face it, I really don't need any other justification), I like to add such people to my parcel ban list. I have absolutely no reason whatsoever to believe that any of these people even know I have my own place, let alone that they would actually go there; so in all honesty, they're just on my ban list out of spite. I think this means that, if by some complete matter of chance they happened to be visiting the sim I live in, they might run into a set of ugly ban lines when they approach my rental property (which they would have no way of knowing is even mine). It might annoy or irritate them, but since I don't like them I'm okay with that.

On the other hand, the public is generally free to check out my place if I'm not around. It's not as if they can steal anything, or leave anything behind. That said, if I logon and appear in my house, and find people there screwing, they will get ejected and banned forthwith - no exceptions.

Actually at the risk of helping the wreck - does anyone know how much a *good* security orb will add to general lag in a fairly well populated area at all? Obviously land tools do not add any lag but for a popular club say, the land ban feature soon run out of entries I expect or do people do this another way?

Fair enough. Feel free - it _is_ your land (as much as land can belong to people in SL).

On behalf of people who like to roam the grid exploring, though, please, pretty please with sugar and pie on top, don't set the damn security orbs to punt people after 10 seconds. If somebody is just passing through, this isn't nearly enough time to drift past, let alone figure out what parcel you're over and speed out..

oh we stopped using the orbs(which we had set to 45 seconds btw) a while back, we realized that there are simple land tools we can use to keep the debris and all out while people who love to explore can do so. its just once you have been griefed, walked in on a budding orgy, and or have had people treat your lil piece of SL heaven like their own personal garbage dump you get well annoyed. currently its restricted to group until we do some renovations, then it will be reopened to the public.

ps: welcome back Mickey!!! you was misseded!!! MUAH

Why this cracks me up, I have no idea, but nevertheless, I lol'ed.

Can we not get into the whole I have rights, no you don't yes Idonoyoudon'tyesIdo...blah, blah, blah crap? It gets old.

Respect others. If they don't want you on their land don't go there, and if you accidentally do, leave ASAP. It doesn't matter why they don't want you there.

The end. Argument over. Now can we move on to something more pleasant?

yeah like giving me my !&#^@% rating already!!!:p

Lovely together, really..

I don't like logging in and wanting to just be alone, relax and not be bothered and maybe work on something and then a bunch of inconsiderate weirdos show up and want to take up my time as though they are entitled to it.

It's no different from real life. There are creeps casing the joint.

I have an orb on my sky box...I just don't like random people in my space, whether I'm there or not. The land below is open to everyone, though.

I agree with Ann. I also have a security orb in my station however my land and Castle below is also restricted because I choose not to have the occasional stranger just pop in when I'm in residence. I've seen this happen to friends of mine. Most people are very friendly and display proper behavior. Others are just rude and have the idea that anything goes in SL.

Thats precisely why I keep people off my land when I'm not around. I'm not at all worried about cramping the style of someone who thinks my home was put there just for them. In my neighborhood, all the owners have each other on their parcel allow lists, and banlines do get used to keep wandering strangers away.

In fact, just yesterday I was standing on my balcony working on something, and I looked up to notice a flying noob with an exposed wooden apparatus had slammed into my banline while he was flying towards me. Happens a lot in that area being so close to Yadni's. Took my top off and danced a lil jig while singing 'nya nya nyaaaa' :D

There is also the RP component that many residents enjoy.
I don't engage in particularly colourful RP but if I'm happily playing house I don't want some tourist strolling through my living room.

Other reasons for security:
Previously, I was renting and had a naked Italian appear quite suddenly in the living room (I assume him to be a previous tenant using an old LM). Try explaining THAT!

.

1) They were naked in world and decided to try an old landmark (stupid idiot; don't get naked first)
2) They were somewhere naked and suddenly the Sim died. They relog. The sim is still down, but SL let's them into SL. Without their control, they are in your living room, naked.
3) They use the "Teleport" home option, but forget that they haven't reset home yet, and arrive in your place naked.

Not sure what you mean by this, but my theory is...

There exists an economic system, created by the visionaries of SL... that residents will buy land, create content and sell their wares. When it comes to land, LL has installed for residents, many tools for securing their privacy, charging admission to land and even banning specific residents (or limiting access to a group).

The groundswell that has taken place that is a counter-culture to this established system is the 'freebie nation' that refuses to invest in the same way that land owners have. They pick through junkyards for freebie hair and clothes, they enjoy creations and performances without paying a dime (even though many other residants will tip for the same enjoyment) and they wander into people's homes to use landowners' properties, either while they are away, or even while they are present--creating a nuisance.

Is that what you mean?

...so if I slam into your ban lines, you'll take off your top?

LOL. That is classic. I'm just picturing the guy slamming into your ban lines and then slowly sliding down the side, his face all squished up and flattened against the ban lines, his, um, attachment going from 100 to 0 in one second flat.

Ironic, considering LL's philosophies and location that this particular sort of counterculture is causing problems within the economic system that LL tried to create.

Thank-you. I'm twisted, I know, but I use this for a good laugh. Granted I'm picturing two people in bed attempting to drive the train into the tunnel, and there appears to be a slight disagreement. About size? Length? Stamina? What Other people do. etc.

"No it doesn't go there, you moron!"
"Yes it does! See . . um . . it fits there, see? See!"
etc.

Or maybe it's a part of it. So many of us are used to living in a welfare state. Is it a natural result of capitalism?
