What is the obsession with using security devices and access restrictions in a world where nothing can be taken or moved unless specific permissions are set?
Moreover, what is the purpose of restricting access to a parcel if you are not even there? I doubt anyone can use your bathroom and forget to flush while you are gone..
Shoot!

I want a place where I don't have to worry about Mr. Horny noob flying in whenever he feels like it.

I have an orb on my sky box...I just don't like random people in my space, whether I'm there or not. The land below is open to everyone, though.

THe sense of privacy and security is just as comforting in a virtual world as it is in real life (In my opinion.. though I don't use banlines or a security system...)

I don't understand security devices but respect peoples choice to use them. This is especially true if they have sex in SL which I don't.
I agree that I don't understand why they have anything on when they are not home. My former next door neighbor had his security devices on when he wasn't home but turned them off the rare times he was. I had to deal with the two fighter plane looking things zipping all around his yard. It made me and any of my visitors a nervous wreck and they were impossible to ignore.

From: Cunundrum Alcott I want a place where I don't have to worry about Mr. Horny noob flying in whenever he feels like it. I love it when you call me that. I don't understand the obsession myself. I understand it when people are online and want a little space to themselves, but who cares when they are offline? It's their property, though, so they can do as they please. I like to wander around and explore SL, but I don't want to go where I'm not welcome. Security systems let me know that the owner has no desire to have me there. I just wish they would all give me enough time to skedaddle instead of instantly orbiting me.

From: Bradley Bracken I agree that I don't understand why they have anything on when they are not home.
Because it's mine! Mine mine MINE! And no one has any reason to be in my sky box without an invite anyway...if they try, they're either just being nosy or looking for a place to hump, like on that other thread. Like I said, no ban lines on the ground, so that shouldn't interfere with anyone's exploration.

I think this is where a few ruin it for the masses. I have had someone come on my land and cage me while I was building, doing close up detail work. I have also had someone shoot me while I was working in my garden. It scared the heck out of me, and for awhile I had orbs up and wouldn't let anyone in. People used to set off the orbs when they would fly in to check out my landscaping ....and that disappointed me because I want other people to enjoy the land too. Now I have no orbs and lately no problems either. So, if you want to check out the East side of Tammora you are welcome to come and visit

So I'm supposed to turn my security on and off just to facilitate anyone who may wish to wander over to my corner of the SL world when I'm offline?

I can see preventing the local perv from being around you.
From my understanding there really is no privacy if ppl are using camera controls to look around. Or is there something out there to prevent that?

When you have logged in to your home, on land that you are paying for, and get verbally abused for interrupting someone's sex session, perhaps you will get the idea. After the fourth or fifth time, you may even invest in a security system of your own.
Or, how about sitting in your home having a quiet conversation with a friend and having mister Rambo Wannabe glide in on his non-phys device with his toy guns blazing.
Sorry, when people learn to respect others' private spaces and/or learn about the concept of manners, maybe I will turn off my orb.

Oh I thought there was some limit on how far the camera could go. And sorry, you'll just have to find another place to hang out, my airship always has the security on

WIth camera constraints turned off, you can go really far. 100m from the object you're using to pull back your camera, but choose one farther out and you can go farther. You kinda have to use it like spiderman swinging on webs... if that makes sense.

Different people have different feelings about their property in SL.
I don't use my house for much, and I have no problem with others enjoying it when I am not there. My first house came with a sex bed that I have never used, but if others want to use it, they can knock themselves out. I really don't mind. I have TP'ed home to find people there; on the occasions when they weren't using the sex bed I introduced myself and welcomed them to my home, and when they were, I just left them to it.
I actually feel quite strongly about this and cannot imagine a situation where I would want to use a security orb or exclude the general public from my property (of course I understand the need to exclude troublesome individuals).
But I recognize that not everyone feels this way. I hope they use orbs rather than ban lines (because ban lines are ugly) but it's their choice.
I will admit, at the risk of raising the ire of others, that I enjoy exploring people's builds, and have on occasion wandered into an interesting-looking (and empty) home. Once the owner arrived while I was doing this, and my first words to him were "I hope you don't mind, but I stumbled across your beautiful castle and could not resist checking it out. If you want me to leave I will, right away." He was surprised but welcomed me and told me I could stay as long as I liked.
I would not use a sex bed in someone else's home without permission (I don't expect to ever be in this position, so I am thinking hypothetically here), even though I am happy to let others use mine. But I wouldn't even have a sex bed if my house hadn't come with one, so I don't feel particularly attached to it.
