I don't really get it either. *shrug*
I have a security orb but I never use it......since I don't have sex in SL....I'm really not worried about anyone walking into my space. Anyway....I'm proud of my land and the way things turned out.....if people want to explore, let em. I love seeing the reactions. What's the point of all my work if noone appreciates it. On the flip side...I would never just start wandering around someone else's property & home.... If I'm invited, great...and a few of my friends have kept a very open philosophy too...but I don't have any interest in snooping. I stick to public places that are meant for exploring. I guess I maintain the same courtesies that I do IRL....but I don't really have the same expectations because in SL it just isn't an issue to me. You wanna come hang out at my house and chill and play with radio stations.... whatever...have at it....I got RL to tend to.
But to each their own....that's what SL's all about.

From: Keira Wells No, but you can still prevent them using your furniture, sexbed, dungeon, tv, radio, pie, everything.
Different kinda privacy than visual. Oh I agree completely. I dont have any security on my place but then I dont get too many ppl swinging by randomly I have been kinda sheltered.

From: Cunundrum Alcott So I'm supposed to turn my security on and off just to facilitate anyone who may wish to wander over to my corner of the SL world when I'm offline? No you don't have to, but I'll never understand why you consider it such an ordeal. Your choice though.

From: VonGklugelstein Alter wrong, they exist on paper first I didn't say the paper version. I said the online version (And your email doesn't btw). Just because something is online doesn't mean it's not real, just means it's real in a different sense. That's my view on it. Don't push your views as the only right one, friend.

I've used banlines only when online and meeting with someone about something important... but my land seems to be in the perfect spot for newbies or something, they pop right onto my lawn all the time...

I have a beautiful riverboat in the water, anyone can come over anytime they like and feel free to lounge around. My airship is 400m in the air, I need someplace for privacy.

Why would we want to hassle with that when we can just avoid it to begin with?

I only recently installed a security orb, and then only because there was a new club built next door and I didn't want random visitors from the club wandering over uninvited. I co-own an art gallery in another sim, where someone opened up an orgy club nearby, and we had a lot of noobs wandering to our gallery with their prim attachments hanging out, wanting to "mak sexies now." (And they didn't even bother buying any of the artwork. ) Both clubs were short-lived, but my alt has requested that the security system stay in place; she knows people can still cam in when she and her BF are enjoying their time together, but she doesn't want random explorers just walking in. As for turning the orb off when we're offline, not gonna happen. Not because I care if someone sits on my beach while I'm not there, but because I'd have to remember to do it all the time. There's an upgrade idea: make a programmable orb that recognizes when you or your alts are online and starts itself, and then shuts off when you log out.

For a long time I didn't mind visitors on my land while I am away. But lately I noticed that someone would come in while I was away and reset all of my blinds--I have several sets and they're in every room. So half of the blinds would be open, the others closed, tint would be set on its darkest setting, etc. I would go back and change it only for them to be changed again. While I don't consider this griefing it is annoying, so I invested in an orb. I'm pretty fair about it though. Someone has to walk at least 15 meters away from the sidewalk (all the way up to my front door) for them to receive a warning.
