VonGl..however ya say that... the post quoted in yours is one in most threads..because most are rehashes of old ones. DOn't take it personally dude, just leads to more drama, and more angry stuff, which leads to umm..well..a thread complaining about someone specifically, which has no real point... This is an excellent point regarding why many of us tire of this. None of these threads is ever constructive. Those who want and like security have their opinions and those who don't like orbs or ban lines have theirs. Never do they ever reach an agreement and it almost always gets ugly. Again, not your fault, though. _____________________

Different people have different feelings about their property in SL. I don't use my house for much, and I have no problem with others enjoying it when I am not there. My first house came with a sex bed that I have never used, but if others want to use it, they can knock themselves out. I really don't mind. I have TP'ed home to find people there; on the occasions when they weren't using the sex bed I introduced myself and welcomed them to my home, and when they were, I just left them to it. I actually feel quite strongly about this and cannot imagine a situation where I would want to use a security orb or exclude the general public from my property (of course I understand the need to exclude troublesome individuals). But I recognize that not everyone feels this way. I hope they use orbs rather than ban lines (because ban lines are ugly) but it's their choice. I will admit, at the risk of raising the ire of others, that I enjoy exploring people's builds, and have on occasion wandered into an interesting-looking (and empty) home. Once the owner arrived while I was doing this, and my first words to him were "I hope you don't mind, but I stumbled across your beautiful castle and could not resist checking it out. If you want me to leave I will, right away." He was surprised but welcomed me and told me I could stay as long as I liked. I would not use a sex bed in someone else's home without permission (I don't expect to ever be in this position, so I am thinking hypothetically here), even though I am happy to let others use mine. But I wouldn't even have a sex bed if my house hadn't come with one, so I don't feel particularly attached to it. Sums up my attitude, both to my own land and to other's perfectly. I really don't care who wanders across my land, or whether they walk into the house, use the balls, whatever. The one thing that really does tick me off though, is when they leave the bloody doors open all the time. Why can't they shut them behind them? |

ok lets tighen this up... Do you add your residential neighbors to your Land access if you are using access controls? Nope... well.. when I did use them, I added them if they requested it for a legitimate reason (Especially if their plot was small enough they'd always see my ban lines) _____________________

500m? That is amateur-level stuff If I see someone on my property on the mini-map when I'm building in my skybox (~720m above ground), I'll pop my camera down to see who is around. From there, I'll sometimes see who is in the bar one sim away, or see who is out and about on that sim. I have a moderately fast computer and a comfortably fast DSL line (6Mb/s) so on private sims I can keep my draw distance at 512m and still get decent frame rates. That draw distance combined with disabled camera constraints means I have to be no where near where I'm looking.I don't have any real interest in Second Sehks, much less watching other people have it, but if I did, it would be trivial to engage in a bit of virtual voyeurism. lol 500m was my dungeon, so it's all I ever really need.. I go camming around whole sims for snapshots though, but I think they're what.. 256m on a side? _____________________

ok lets tighen this up... Do you add your residential neighbors to your Land access if you are using access controls? I never knew my neighbors. Others on my sim were rarely on at the same time as me. I guess they were mostly in other parts of the world. That being the case, if I chose to have orbs, why would I consider adding them. I had friends on the opposite side of my sim that I liked to fly to. It seemed silly to TP, but I quickly learned who had orbs and flew around them. _____________________

I added the owners and residents of the properties immediately next to me on both sides, just as a good faith gesture; they were friendly and might have needed to come over to talk about our mutual interests, or, ya know, just to borrow a cup of sugar. ![]() |

I still think it's nonsense but respect how others feel about it. All I ask is people have simple orbs and not ones like my neighbor had which zip all around and drive their neighbors crazy. If it doesn't happen to you it's hard to explain... but I have had people using my land in the past as their own 'home base' they would pop over before they logged out, so they would log in again there... they would invite all their friends over from whatever weird clubs they frequented... then their friends would start using it as a hang-out. My home is not listed in public spaces for a reason... I pay for the land because I want a private place to hang out with my friends without interruptions from people who are too cheap to pay for land and want to use my bedroom like it's a homeless shelter. |

Actually it has happened to me. I use to live near a gay club and had guys at my house all the time. Many would show up when I was there and get nasty when they assumed I'd automatically have sex with them and I told them to get lost. I also got a lot of noobs both male and female that wanted to just hang out and chat with me and watch what I do. That was always odd. I really never thought any of this was a big deal. I'd just eject them when they bothered me. Later I moved to a quieter sim and turned the land around my home into a park like setting. It was open to all and I liked meeting the many people who would relax and enjoy the serenity around my lagoon. I kept the doors to my house locked but I know that's not really security. I appreciate all of this was my choice. Others have a difference of opinion and I respect that but that doesn't mean I'll ever "get it". _____________________

Again, I'm not belittling your feelings or questioning your right to exclude the general public from your land. But my own view is different. If I found I was being annoyed by someone using my home as their own repeatedly, I might (*might*) ban that individual, but I just can't see it as a reason to exclude anyone who might wander by. My home is a prefab and it is no great shakes, but if it were something I built myself and were proud of I would feel even more strongly that I would *want* it to be open to public viewing. Of course if someone takes advantage of that openness in a way that annoyed me I would deal with that on an individual basis. _____________________

I have to agree with what others have said, VonGklugelstein. You asked a question but it's obvious you had no real interest in learning why others think it's important.

People come by my home all the time, heh i just say hi and carry on... Then again I don't have"sex" or anything of the like in SL. If I had a personal moment going on then I guess I would be pretty pissed...

It is just my house that is secure. But i think the difference between us is that you waited forr them to bother you then had to take steps to eject them... I prefer to not be bothered in the first place. BTW: there are signs at the entry of my house that say it is a "Private Residence" and still my security log shows that people have had to be ejected. But I haven't yet felt the need or desire to ban anyone from my land. |

Your view is transparent unless you are just trolling and flamebaiting. Not that the transparency of one excludes the other. ![]() ^^ agrees with what he said _____________________

ok lets tighen this up... Do you add your residential neighbors to your Land access if you are using access controls? I don't use the land access controls on my land, it is open to anyone that wants to come by. My home is at 600m and I do have an orb in there. However, even though I haven't met many of my neighbors and rarely see them, I did look at their about land info and got the owners' names or group owners' names and added them all to my land access lists as well as my orb white lists. And, upon request, I also add the names of their friends. Since I own roughly half the sim and have some of them totally surrounded, I thought it was the least I could do for the very rare case that I may temporarily raise the access restriction. |

True, that is a difference between us. I never had a problem meeting new people. It's one of the things I enjoy. If I'm busy I tell them so and the vast majority respected that. _____________________

/me thinks Ricardo sent his alt today. Ricardo would never argue for allowing free access. I don't think he'd have it in him to play around with an alt and do it no matter how much he was looking for an argument. _____________________
