If you take it off, the titler screams in open chat that you "cheated".

It has come to my attention that my earlier apology for possible offenses given in earlier posts has possibly caused offense.

My sincerest regrets over the entire situation. The people responsible for said apology have just been sacked.
That apology is just not good enough.

Pep (I demand a sincere apology for the offence caused)

But it is really cheating?
Only if you try to hide the fact that you did it.

I don't think you understand. I don't want action regarding the people who were responsible for the offence. I want a sincere apology. This involves recognition of what might have caused offence, contrition regarding the act and an understanding of the hurt that has been caused. Without such information an apology is worse than worthless, because it is insulting in its ignorance.

Exactly my point. An apology that is NOT sincere, that is NOT meant, that is NOT an apology is worse than no apology at all.

An insincere apology is appropriate for an insincere offense.

I got the impression it went more like this:

<a> wear an evil titler
OP sets title to something <a> does not like
<a> fusses
<c> is land owner and friend of <a>, asks OP to apologize to <a>
OP refuses and <c> bans him

In that case, OP does not necessarily owe <a> an apology just because <a> all of a sudden does not like the direction the titler game turned and wants to change the rules of the game.

However, whether an apology is really warranted or not, if OP wants to continue hanging there, then OP will suck it up and apologize.

QFT.

The original problem of the OP is that he's a jerk, but hasn't figured it out yet.

The OP isn't the one in here calling people names.

No, he's the one out there calling people names. And refusing to apologize. And whining about it in the forums.

If you're offended by the blunt way I describe his character, I will attempt to come up with a more appropriate euphemism in future messages.

If you're telling me I'm being a jerk, OK, I accept that.

I reiterate that it is called an EVIL TITLER. If you can't take the evil, don't wear the titler! And save the rest of us the f***ing spam. 'nuff said.

1 user agreed

The only place I've seen these evil titlers being worn thus far is by students in classes. The changing of title material seems to be done by friends of the wearer. (Until this thread I didn't know what the heck they were doing.)

~ ~ ~

On a related subject, I saw someone in yet another class recently wearing a titler that said "If you need a liege, contact me." Any opinions on that? Advertising for sure, but do others think it's good/bad/indifferent? (Not sure I've made my mind up yet on this one.)

Negative...negative...negative!

Wearing one of these titler things does not automatically mean "abuse me".

Now situation becomes relevant. Where were they? A PG area? A winter sim? A BDSM sim with active humiliation going on?

OP, tell us what sort of place you were at, and what you set the titler to, please.

The OP played along with a mischievous game where all were invited to play, and the target changed the rules. I do not believe that the OP was obligated to apologize. What they said may have been crude, but that is usually the point of using the Evil Titler, and the adult behind the avatar wearing it should have known it. That doesn't make the OP a jerk.

Maybe not a jerk indeed.

But would a whiner be a better description? Because he did something, refused to apologize (his good right) and got a ban. Well, that he should have taken like a man. Action causes reaction. Either give the requested apology, or accept being booted. Simple.

The OP did not comment about the ban itself. The OP asked about the Evil Titler. So calling the OP a "whiner" is somewhat misplaced.

As much as I hate to admit, you are probably right. Do not do that too often Cristalle. I hate admitting someone else is right ;)

LOL. It is easier though to say "you are right" rather than saying "I was wrong" - just something in the way it sounds.

Sometimes, but not always. A single example is not proof.

Your request for an apology was itself disingenuous, creating a different situation from the original post. It can't be applied.

Consider a simple "excuse me" for jostling, perhaps because a bus or train lurched. There's no fault or blame involved, yet courtesy calls for that "excuse me" to apologize for bumping into another person. It should be automatic, with not enough thought to even label it as sincere or insincere. It's certainly not an admission of guilt, nor an expression of actually caring about the other person. It's done because it's an expected social norm. As with "please", "thank you", and "how are you", it's a type of grease that keeps society running smoothly.
