It is not a licence for anybody to put whatever coarse, offensive, crude, insulting drivel that their sick brain comes up with.

Of course not, that would be evil!

It's an open invite to put something there.
It is not a licence for anybody to put whatever coarse, offensive, crude, insulting drivel that their sick brain comes up with.
The person putting something there is still subject to the bounds of common decency.

Define common decency?

In some places what is put there is just fine, and others something as innocent as a cuddle friendly neko with "Enjoy a lil pussy" can be considered indecent.

There is also the question of venue, in many places where you see the things... rude and crude is the norm.

I've seen very few in pg or family friendly venues, and most in mature clubs and such. I know I saw like 12 of the things just hanging with friends in the ark... within one hour.

Common sense is that if you have a line and you wear such a thing in public, you need to take it off. Don't lure people into playing with your title if you can't handle it.

I'm not talking about a personal line. But a community line. OP changed a titler, and was asked to apologize or leave by someone OTHER than the wearer (if OP's post is clear).

I reiterate...Common sense is that if you give offense (even in jest), and are asked to apologize, then an apology is warranted.

Ok...hypothetical...

<a> wears a titler
<b> sets title to insult <c>
<c> takes offense and asks for apology from <b>

Should <b> apologize? I say yes.

See, I can see quite a few different ways in which a person's limits have little to do with whether OP should apologize.

(Not trying to say this happened...we don't know from OP's post. But using it to make my point)

*drum roll*
If someone with an attachment sets up a situation such as that... they should be asked to remove it. Not the person that changed the title

It's the reason my ear and tail chat scripts have this thing called a lock... because if someone gets click happy it's my fault for having them unlocked or on. So I get in trouble, not the person clicking them.

Much like the way you can and will get booted for wearing scripted bits if people play with them... you chose to wear them and let anyone play with them.

What point?

That someone can be offended by something that others are not offended by?

I see people offended all the time when I walk by as a bipedal husky, and am likewise offended by the remarks of many of them.

But I neither apologize or ask for an apology, neither would be sincere and thus worthless.

To many cuddleslut is offensive, and to others it's cute. Because many see it as a bad thing, others see it as someone that just loves to cuddles

So you are defending a position that has no defense, if the wearer of the title wasn't offended then there shouldn't have been a problem.

If a bystander gets offended because you have the wrong look on your avatar do you apologize? Do you apologize if someone gets offended because you have member as a group title... and they think it means something else?

In the particular instance that is the subject of the the thread, whatever the OP put up appears to have offended the norms of the venue.
Maybe a little, maybe a lot.
It happens. Cultural differences, a little thoughtlessness.

The offence was brought to his notice.
Not only did he fail to volunteer an apology, he refused to give one.
Then he complains here that he got banned.

If the wearing of an attachment is offending those in the area. Yup...couldn't agree more.

But that's not what we're talking about here. Here it wasn't the attachment, but the action taken by OP that gave offense. :D

I'm curious what the OP wrote that was considered offensive. I've seen a whole lot of really, really indecent titles, but very few people actually get offended over them. This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone getting this upset over one.

My point? The issue isn't the titler. It's the OP trying to make a joke, that only succeeded in ticking off those around him(her?). Then when confronted directly, refused to offer an apology.

Let's stick to the real issue.

It seems that the one who got "this upset" is the OP - who is the one who put up whatever text.

Bear in mind that it was the admin/owner of the venue that invited him to apologise and then banned him when he refused. It wasn't simply a case of the title wearer getting offended.
For all we know, both the wearer and the admin have now forgotten all about 'the griefer', leaving the OP to come here looking for self-justification.

Ahem....

It has been brought to my attention that the opinions I have previously posted may have offended some readers. It was not my intention to give offense. The goal of said statements of opinion were merely meant to advance a dialog between all thread participants. I deeply regret any offense, intentional or not, that may or may not have been given or received.

There...was that so hard? :D

This example is different that how I read the scenerio. If the above is what happened, then <b> does owe an apology to <c>.

However, I got the impression it went more like this:

<a> wear an evil titler
OP sets title to something <a> does not like
<a> fusses
<c> is land owner and friend of <a>, asks OP to apologize to <a>
OP refuses and <c> bans him

In that case, OP does not necessarily owe <a> an apology just because <a> all of a sudden does not like the direction the titler game turned and wants to change the rules of the game.

However, whether an apology is really warranted or not, if OP wants to continue hanging there, then OP will suck it up and apologize.

I still think the titler in this case is a red herring. It sounded like the OP tried to make a joke (through a titler, yes...) which wasn't well received. When asked to apologize for his/her poor taste, he/she refused, and was ejected.

Lest we forget, she was wearing a titler that anyone could change.

"Hey I don't like the message posted." TAKE IT OFF! DUH!

If you take it off, the titler screams in open chat that you "cheated".

It has come to my attention that my earlier apology for possible offenses given in earlier posts has possibly caused offense.

My sincerest regrets over the entire situation. The people responsible for said apology have just been sacked.
